In a dramatic ending, the incredible Atlanta Braves staged a comeback win over
the New York (NL) Mets by the count of 9 to 7.
Atlanta scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning scoring 3
runs utilizing 2 base hits. Mike Tauchman opened up the inning nicely when
he drew a walk. Josh Bell came to the plate and laced a single. Garcia was
safe at second on a stolen base. Robert Gsellman then threw a pitch that the
catcher muffed which plated a run. Mitch Moreland came up to bat and clubbed
a two-run home run making Atlanta the victors to the delight of the home town
faithful. Atlanta had 15 hits for the game and New York (NL) had 7.
The win went to Anthony Bass(3-2) who allowed 1 run in 1/3 of an inning.
Gsellman(5-7) was the losing pitcher in relief. Left fielder David Dahl
smacked 2 homeruns but despite his efforts, it wasn't enough to put New York
(NL) over the top.

The Pittsburgh Pirates enjoyed a blow-out, pounding the Detroit Tigers
pitchers for 10 while Dario Agrazal(4-0), with relief help from Matt Strahm,
surrendered 2 runs to Detroit.
Pittsburgh jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they tallied
6 runs on 5 hits. The early run support proved sufficient for Agrazal and
Pittsburgh. That was all the run support Agrazal required. Overall
Pittsburgh out-hit Detroit 13 to 6.
Tyler Alexander(1-7) took the loss. Pittsburgh now has a record of 91-55.
Detroit can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a
miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks.

Second baseman Kolten Wong had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals
crushed the San Francisco Giants 12 to 0.
Wong led the offense for St. Louis. He doubled in the 1st inning, ripped a
base-knock scoring a run in the 4th inning, cracked a two-run shot in the 7th
inning and stroked a base-hit in the 8th inning. St. Louis dominated
offensively as they scored in 6 different innings.
The win was credited to Jack Flaherty(12-6) who went 5 and 1/3 innings
allowing no runs. Clay Buchholz(2-3) ended up with the loss. He surrendered
4 runs in 2 innings and saw his ERA increase from 5.32 to 6.31.
The St. Louis ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 98-48. With
the loss San Francisco now has a record of 52-94, worst in the division.

Anthony Desclafani didn't allow a hit until the 7th inning and J.D. Martinez
smacked a grand slam as the streaking Cincinnati Reds beat the Milwaukee
Brewers by a score of 16 to 10.
The Milwaukee fans didn't appreciate the big day Martinez had. He ripped a
single in the 3rd inning, emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the
4th inning and doubled plating a run in the 9th inning. Cincinnati kept the
scorekeepers busy in the 4th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 3 hits and
the 9th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 5 hits. Cincinnati simply wore
out the Milwaukee pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.
Desclafani(10-9) allowed 3 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. The right-handed Desclafani had his no-hit bid broken up by Adam
Duvall who doubled with nobody out in the 7th inning. John Means(14-13) was
tagged with the loss. He got hammered, allowing 7 hits and 5 walks in 3 and
2/3 innings.

Jonathan Schoop touched them all and had 4 RBI at Camden Yards as the
Baltimore Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays in 11 innings 13 to 12.
The game was deadlocked at 12 after nine full innings. Baltimore came out the
victor in the 11th inning. Chris Taylor drew a walk. Victor Reyes stepped
into the batter's box and he doubled. Manny Machado then banged out a single
making Baltimore the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. It
was roller coaster of a game as the lead change hands 7 times.
The victory went to Paul Fry(5-4) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Stefan
Crichton(0-2) absorbed the loss in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 1 walk
without retiring a batter.

In a close game the Miami Marlins got by the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 7
to 5.
Miami jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 5th inning when they came up
with 2 runs on 3 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Francisco Cervelli
who thrilled the crowd when he doubled bringing in two baserunners. Miami
managed 9 hits in their victory.
Chris Paddack(10-13) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 5 runs for the win.
Paddack got help from Nick Wittgren who was credited with his 6th save. The
loss was charged to Martin Perez(10-5). His ERA ballooned from 3.81 to 4.10
as he allowed 7 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Philadelphia Phillies broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out a
3 to 2 win over the pitiful Washington Nationals and sending their hometown
fans home smiling.
Philadelphia scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After
an out was recorded, Matt Carpenter drew a walk. Gleyber Torres came next
and he doubled. Austin Barnes then slapped a base-hit resulting in a mighty
exciting win for Philadelphia and the 13,111 home town fans in attendance.
Philadelphia finished with 8 hits in the victory.
Cal Quantrill(1-0) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. The loss
was charged to Wander Suero(7-2) in relief. He allowed 1 run and 1 hit in
2/3 of an inning.

Seattle came up with 1 run in the 6th inning. Carlos Santana ripped a solo
home run. Texas had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
The victory was credited to Aaron Nola(11-3) who went 7 innings, allowing 2
runs. Shane Greene preserved the game for Nola, recording his his 24th save.
Jacob Waguespack(0-6) was tagged with the loss in relief. He allowed just 1
run and 2 hits in 4 innings.
With the win, Seattle continued their winning ways; their streak now stands at

stepped up next and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run. Kevin
Pillar then smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly'. The early run support proved
sufficient for Mike Soroka(15-4) and Colorado. That was all the run support
Soroka required. Colorado managed 10 hits in their victory.

Catcher Martin Maldonado slammed a homerun and had 5 RBI at PETCO Park where
the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the slumping San Diego Padres 9 to

Maldonado was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he
provided much of the offense for the visitors. He cracked a solo homerun in
the 6th inning and doubled clearing all three ducks off the pond in the 8th
inning. Arizona simply wore out the San Diego pitching staff, scoring in 6
different innings.
Drew Pomeranz(7-1) got the win allowing 1 run in 5 and 2/3 innings. Jake
Arrieta(7-11) was the loser. He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 7 hits and
1 walk.

performance. He noted, 'I had good zip on my pitches. Just as important, my
location was right on. The fans really got into the game too - that always
helps me. Now, if I can only do that again in my next outing.'
