The Tampa Bay Rays edged the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park by the score of 4
to 3.
Tampa Bay had the winning rally in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 3
base hits. After an out was recorded, Ketel Marte initiated the scoring
spurt when he doubled. Eugenio Suarez stepped up next and he laced a
base-hit scoring a single run. Rhys Hoskins then reached on an error.
Enrique Hernandez stepped in and he was hit by a pitch. Aaron Hicks stepped
into the box and lashed a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning.
Miami threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
The win went to Nick Anderson(6-9) who allowed no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings.
Anderson got help from Trevor Gott who earned his 16th save. The loss was
charged to Tyler Webb(1-5) in relief.
Despite losing Miami's manager was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over
this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one
of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'

In a dramatic ending, the Detroit Tigers staged a comeback win over the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 6 to 5.
Detroit came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 4 base
hits. Jose Abreu started the inning off right when he banged out a single.
Yan Gomes came next and he doubled. Sam Hilliard then doubled driving in two
more baserunners. After an out was recorded, Harold Castro came to the plate
and ripped a one-base hit giving Detroit the win as 4,686 happy fans joyfully
celebrated. Detroit rapped out 11 hits for the night.
Nick Ramirez(4-1) allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Kirby Yates(4-4) took the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an
inning and surrendered 4 hits and no walks.
Detroit's manager was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard
fought game like that. Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did
you see the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win
tonight!'

Yankees beat the hopeless Boston Red Sox 6 to 4.
Gonzalez(10-9) earned his pay with a solid performance for New York (AL). He
went 7 innings and surrended up 7 hits and 5 walks. Both teams finished the
game with 9 hits.
John Gant(6-4) was charged with the loss in relief. Despite losing, he
struckout 6 New York (AL) batters in 3 and 2/3 innings.
Boston's manager was upset after the game. 'I don't like to complain but did
you see that umpires strike zone?', he said. 'Maybe they ought to start
calling the strike zone the way it's printed in the rule book.'

The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Washington came out the
victor in the 14th inning. After an out was recorded, Brendan McKay got
things rolling when he drew a walk. Dexter Fowler next to the plate and he
drew a walk. Brian Goodwin then singled to load the bases. One out later,
Castro stepped up to the plate and he doubled driving in three runs.
Washington had 11 hits for the game and Philadelphia had 6.
The win was credited to McKay(1-4) who went 2 innings allowing no runs. Julio
Urias(6-7) was hit with the loss in relief.

Sampson(7-12) finally bested his New York (NL) opposite, Dakota Hudson(9-12),

Sampson pitched a solid game. He went 6 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 walks.
Seth Lugo pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 8th save.
Hudson suffered the loss. He gave up 2 runs and 7 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Martinez enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He clubbed a three-run home run
in the 1st inning, smacked a single in the 2nd inning and doubled scoring two
baserunners in the 4th inning. Milwaukee was out-hit by Cincinnati, 12 hits
to 6.
Frankie Montas(12-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Freddy Peralta(0-10) was given the loss. Cincinnati won for
the 9th straight time.

Lance Lynn whiffed 12 batters and Ozzie Albies had 4 hits and 3 RBI at Globe
Life Park where the incredible Seattle Mariners beat the Texas Rangers by the
score of 8 to 2.
The Texas fans didn't appreciate the big day Albies had. He laced a base-knock
in the 1st inning, doubled in the 2nd inning, ripped a single in the 6th
inning and belted a three-run homer in the 8th inning. Seattle had 14 hits
overall, while Texas had 6.
The winning pitcher was Lynn(17-3) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. The losing
pitcher was Madison Bumgarner(12-18). He got hammered, allowing 8 hits and 2
walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Texas' manager was impressed with Lynn and his 12 strikeouts. 'It's tough to
generate runs if you can't make contact with the ball.'

2/3 innings. Neither team was able to score until the 7th inning.
Brandon Kintzler gained credit for his 1st save. Asher Wojciechowski(6-14)
ended up with the loss. 'I had my good stuff tonight.' Cole said. 'As the
game went along I started to get the feeling that I was going to strike out a
bunch of hitters.'

got relief help from Jesse Chavez who gained credit for his 4th save. Trevor
Cahill(3-14) was the losing pitcher. Los Angeles(AL) scored big getting 4

Diamondbacks 9, the slumping San Diego Padres 3 in 17 innings.
The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Arizona won the hard
fought contest in the 17th inning. The crucial at-bat was provided by Eloy
Jimenez who deflated the crowd as he delivered a single which was good for
two runs. Neither team was able to score until the 8th inning.
Steve Cishek(5-0) was the winner allowing 1 run in 1 and 2/3 innings. Colten
Brewer(3-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. By giving up 6 runs in 1
inning his ERA increased from 3.93 to 4.41.

separated the combatants at game's end. The Baltimore Orioles won by the
slimmest of margins, 8 to 7.

finished the game with 11 hits.
Chaz Roe preserved the game for Perez, recording his his 6th save. Jason

Left fielder Alex Gordon had 3 base hits at Kauffman Stadium as the Kansas
City Royals beat the Oakland Athletics in 10 innings 6 to 5.
The score was knotted at 5 after nine innings. Kansas City ended up winning
it in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Albert Pujols lined a
one-base hit. Cam Gallagher followed next and he drew a walk. Gordon then
slapped a base-hit to load the bases. Elvis Andrus stepped in and he drew a
walk making Kansas City the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.
Kansas City banged out 10 hits on the night.
The victory went to Justin Shafer(5-3) who went 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Hector Neris(2-5) was the loser in relief. He surrendered 3 hits and 1
walk in 2 innings.
Wth the win Kansas City now has a record of 63-81. Even with the loss, Oakland
still has a nice 8-2 record in recent weeks. They are 95-49 on the season.

in the 8th inning. Los Angeles(NL) out-hit Chicago (AL) 12 to 7, but Chicago
(AL) ended up with more runs.
Aaron Bummer(5-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 and 1/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Taylor Rogers earned the save, his 24th. Blake
Treinen(5-8) suffered the loss in relief.
'I didn't feel that good when I came to the park tonight,' Anderson said.
'I'm glad I decided to play!'
