Marlins 7 to 4 at Citizens Bank Park.
Philadelphia drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
when they tallied 2 runs on 2 hits. The key at-bat was by Hunter Renfroe who
came through for the home fans when he cracked a two-run shot. Miami had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.
The victory went to Wilmer Font(5-2) who went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs.
Trevor Richards(2-16) ended up with the loss. 'Some losses are harder to
take than others' Miami's manager lamented after the game. 'This was one of
them.'

In a good matchup it was the Washington Nationals 4, the New York (NL) Mets 2
in 10 innings at Citi Field.
The score was tied at 2 after nine. Finally, Washington pulled the game out
in the 10th inning. Garrett Cooper led off and got things going when he drew
a walk. After an out was recorded, Fowler then stole second base. Brian
Goodwin was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Cheslor Cuthbert
followed and he drew a walk. Robert Gsellman then threw a wild pitch.
Starlin Castro added his contribution to the rally and tripled driving home
two runs. Both teams totaled 9 hits on the afternoon.
Wander Suero(7-1) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Josh Hader earned his 24th save. Gsellman(5-6) was the loser in
relief.

Patrick Corbin(16-7) gave a fine effort for Atlanta. He went 5 and 2/3
innings surrendering 3 hits and 4 walks. Corbin whiffed an impressive total
of 7 Pittsburgh batters. Atlanta ended up with 11 hits for the game while
Pittsburgh had 7.
Chris Bassitt(18-6) took the loss. Despite losing, he struckout 8 Atlanta
batters in 5 innings.

Spencer Turnbull mowed down 10 Houston batters and second baseman Ozzie Albies
rocketed 3 homeruns as the amazing Seattle Mariners beat the Houston Astros
by a score of 9 to 1.
Albies provided much of the offense. He ripped a solo home run in the 1st
inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 7th inning and delivered a
solo blast in the 8th inning. For the game Seattle out-hit Houston 10 to 4.
Turnbull(16-3) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 6 innings. C.C.
Sabathia(4-15) suffered the loss. Turnbull didn't realize how many
strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had 10 he was obviously
surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn't
think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty good, isn't it?'

Michael Conforto had 2 base hits as the blistering-hot Cincinnati Reds bested
the Chicago (NL) Cubs 5 to 4 at Wrigley Field.
Joe Kelly(4-4) came on to close the door tight in relief. He didn't give up
much, just 1 hit and 1 walk in 3 innings and whiffed an impressive total of 6
Chicago (NL) batters improving his ERA from 4.95 to 4.70. Kelly was helped
out by Liam Hendriks who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 4th save.
The losing pitcher was Merrill Kelly(9-12). He gave up 6 hits and 3 walks in
5 and 1/3 innings. It was another victory for Cincinnati at Wrigley Field.

Zach Plesac had a strong outing as the Cleveland Indians ballclub embarrassed
the Colorado Rockies by the count of 14 to 2.
Andrew Benintendi had a good day at the plate. He slapped a single in the 1st
inning, doubled in the 4th inning and smacked a three-run homer in the 7th
inning. Cleveland had 16 hits for the game and Colorado had 4.
Plesac(7-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 1 run.
Steven Brault(8-9) was charged with the loss. Cleveland scored big getting 6
runs off him in 5 innings.

San Diego fell behind quickly as the San Francisco offense came through in the
first inning as they scored 2 runs on 3 base hits. That scoring would be all
that was needed. San Francisco out-hit San Diego for the game, 11 hits to 7.
Eflin(9-13) got the win allowing no runs in 8 innings. Chase Anderson(13-9)
ended up with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 7 runs
in 4 innings.

It was a great finish at Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox pulled off a
dramatic comeback beating the Detroit Tigers by the count of 9 to 8.
Boston came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning when they
came up with 5 runs on 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Mauricio Dubon who
brought the crowd to their feet when he doubled scoring two baserunners.
Detroit scored in 5 different innings, but their shaky pitching kept them
from victory.
The win went to Derek Holland(2-15) who allowed no runs in 4 innings. Joe
Jimenez(4-5) took the loss in relief. 'Now that is what I call fun! I just
love baseball, especially games like this, of course,' Boston's manager
offered. 'Everyone at the stadium had a great time - did you see the fans go
wild there at the end?!'

In a one-sided affiar at Rogers Centre the final score was the Tampa Bay Rays
8, the Toronto Blue Jays 3.
Tampa Bay jumped out to the early lead in the first inning plating 2 runs on 2
hits. After two outs Eugenio Suarez jump-started the rally as he drew a
walk. Rhys Hoskins stepped up to the plate and he stroked a one-base hit.
Willson Contreras then ripped a base-hit bringing in a run. Enrique
Hernandez followed next and he reached on an error scoring the final run of
the inning. Tampa Bay had 9 hits for the afternoon.
The winning pitcher was Yu Darvish(18-7) who allowed 2 runs in 5 innings.
Darvish got help from Trevor Gott who earned his 15th save. Matt Moore(0-2)
was hit with the loss.

In an great finish the amazing Oakland Athletics won in dramatic fashion over
the dreadful Texas Rangers by a score of 4 to 3 at RingCentral
Coliseum.
Oakland scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning with 2
runs. After two outs Adam Eaton began the rally when he drew a walk. Eaton
stole second with some aggressive base running. Sean Murphy then drew a
walk. Seth Brown came up and he tripled giving Oakland the victory as 37,744
happy fans celebrated wildly. Oakland had 10 hits for the game and Texas had
6.
Hansel Robles(2-6) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. The loss was
charged to Carlos Martinez(4-7) in relief. Robles and Willie Calhoun were
really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind
victory. As Oakland's manager noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for
a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even
you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
