Blake Snell struck out 10 batters as the phenomenal Tampa Bay Rays topped the
New York (AL) Yankees by a score of 13 to 6 at Tropicana Field.
Snell(8-6) pitched a fine game. He was reached for 3 hits and 1 walk in 7
innings. New York (AL) was out-hit by Tampa Bay, 12 hits to 7.
Felix Pena(8-8) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving
up 6 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. Snell was jubilant in the hometown
clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun out there. The fans gave me a lot of support
as did my teammates. We got the victory and I'll sure take 10 strikeouts
anytime!'

Michael Wacha racked up an impressive total of 11 strikeouts at Wrigley Field
as the Chicago (NL) Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 2 to 0.
Wacha(11-11) gave Chicago (NL) a solid outing. He went 7 innings and
surrended up 7 hits and no walks. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but their
rally came up short.
Chris Martin recorded his 6th save. Jorge Lopez(1-5) was the losing pitcher.
When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Wacha offered, 'The fan's
really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up
there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy tonight - of course, it
would be all for naught without the 'W'.'

The Los Angeles(AL) Angels readily handled slumping Houston Astros by a score
of 7 to 3 at Minute Maid Park.
Los Angeles(AL) went ahead for good in the 4th inning plating an isolated run
on 3 hits. Los Angeles(AL) totaled 12 hits on the night.
Antonio Senzatela(9-7) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 7 innings.
A.J. Minter earned the save, his 3rd. Trevor Cahill(3-15) was the loser.

Clay Buchholz pitched 7 strong innings and Jake Bauers had 2 base hits at
Chase Field where the San Francisco Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 1 to
0.
The game's only run was scored in the top of the 7th inning. Arizona tried
unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
The victory was credited to Buchholz(3-3) who went 7 innings, allowing no
runs. Buchholz was helped out by Yimi Garcia who recorded his 2nd save. Drew
Pomeranz(7-2) took the loss. He struck out 9 batters in 6 and 1/3 innings
despite losing the game.

The Seattle Mariners nipped the reeling San Diego Padres in 11 innings 4 to 3
at T-Mobile Park in a hard fought contest.
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Seattle was
victorious in the 11th inning. Cody Bellinger drew a walk. Lorenzo Cain
came next and he was hit by a pitch. One out later, Jacob Stallings got his
chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Ozzie Albies came
up and he singled giving Seattle the win as 45,787 happy fans joyfully
celebrated. Seattle finished with 7 hits in the victory.
Joakim Soria(8-1) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. The
losing pitcher was Matt Wisler(6-8) in relief. He gave up 1 run and no hits
in 2 and 2/3 innings.

Aaron Civale(2-3) and Tyler Alexander(1-8) locked horns in a pitcher's duel
with Civale and the Cleveland Indians coming out on top of the Detroit Tigers
2 to 1.
Civale was in control of the game from the outset. He didn't give up much,
just 3 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 2/3 innings. Civale struckout 9 Detroit
batters dropping his ERA from 2.89 to 2.68. Neither team managed to score
after the 4th inning.
Jarlin Garcia earned his 13th save.

Mitch Garver went yard and had 2 RBI at RingCentral Coliseum as the Oakland
Athletics beat the Chicago (AL) White Sox by the count of 5 to 4.
Oakland jumped on top of Chicago (AL) in the bottom of the 2nd inning with 2
runs on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Dan Vogelbach got things
going when he doubled. Garver was next and he popped a two-run clout over
the fence. Chicago (AL) had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came
up short.
Jake Odorizzi(15-5) went 5 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Odorizzi
got relief help from Hector Neris who gained credit for his 22nd save. Jose
Urena(7-9) was charged with the loss. He pitched 7 innings allowing 9 hits
and 2 walks.
When questioned about the loss, Chicago (AL)'s manager said, 'The fans got to
see an exciting game out there tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it
done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the
smiles.'
