Catcher Austin Romine smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Milwaukee
Brewers bested the dreadful Baltimore Orioles in 13 innings 13 to 9 at Camden
Yards.
The score was knotted at 8 after nine innings. Finally, Milwaukee pulled the
game out in the 13th inning. The key at-bat was by Domingo Santana who
silenced the crowd when he laced a single scoring two baserunners. Baltimore
was out-hit by Milwaukee, 18 hits to 13.
The win was credited to Junior Fernandez(1-1) who went 3 innings allowing 1
run. Paul Fry(5-5) was the loser in relief. He allowed 2 runs and 2 hits in
2 and 1/3 innings.
'After the stretch we have been through lately, this victory is especially

Yu Darvish racked up an impressive total of 11 strikeouts and catcher Willson
Contreras cracked 2 homeruns as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Boston Red
Sox 5 to 4 at Fenway Park.
Darvish(19-7) earned his pay with a solid performance for Tampa Bay. He
surrendered 8 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. Diego Castillo, after tossing a
perfect ninth, was credited with his 6th save.
Tyson Ross(3-5) was tagged with the loss. 'I had my good stuff today.'
Darvish said. 'As the game went along I started to get the feeling that I was
going to strike out a bunch of hitters.'

Alex Young had an impressive outing at Marlins Park where the Washington
Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 5 to 3.
Washington delivered all the runs required in the 1st inning when they came up
with 5 runs on 4 hits. That early scoring was all that Young(8-3) needed.
Josh Hader was perfect in relief and gained credit for his 25th save.
Pablo Lopez(5-12) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 4 hits and 1 walk in

Byron Buxton hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI at Comerica Park as the
Minnesota Twins beat the Detroit Tigers by the count of 10 to 5.
Buxton was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He delivered a one-base hit in the 1st inning,
doubled which scored a run in the 6th inning and cleared the fences for a
two-run home run in the 9th inning. Overall Minnesota out-hit Detroit 17 to
9.
David Price(11-7) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 7 innings. Wade
Leblanc(4-5) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around by Minnesota, allowing
5 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.

Cameron Maybin hit a homerun as the Atlanta Braves won in dramatic fashion
over the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 6 to 5 at SunTrust
Park.
Atlanta scored the winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 2 runs
on 3 base hits. After two outs George Springer opened up the rally as he hit
a single. D.J. Lemahieu stepped up next and he lined a base-hit. Christian
Vazquez then drew a walk to load the bases. Michael Brantley was up next and
he was hit by a pitch bringing in a run. Adeiny Hechavarria came up to bat
and banged out a single giving Atlanta the victory and sending the 38,533
home-town fans home happy. Atlanta ended up with 13 hits for the game while
Philadelphia had 8.
The victory was credited to Will Harris(11-1) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Brad Hand(0-9) suffered the loss in relief.
'What a win!', Harris said. 'These are the kind of games that stand out in
your mind at the end of a season.'

Eduardo Escobar blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Gerrit Cole retired 13
batters on strikeouts as the red-hot St. Louis Cardinals outscored the
floundering Chicago (NL) Cubs 10 to 2.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Escobar. He popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 1st
inning and smacked a three-run homer in the 6th inning. St. Louis finished
with 11 hits in the victory.
Cole(17-6) went 8 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Derek Law(0-9) ended up
with the loss. He pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.
The St. Louis fans were thrilled by the performance put forth by Cole, but it
was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10
strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud cheer.' St.
Louis' manager said following the game.

Rangers defeated the ice-cold Houston Astros by the score of 10 to 7 at Globe

Frazier enjoyed a big day at the plate. He clubbed a two-run home run in the
2nd inning and cracked a two-run shot in the 3rd inning. For the game Texas
out-hit Houston 15 to 12.
Keone Kela(5-4) got the win allowing no runs in 3 innings. Jhoulys
Chacin(8-14) suffered the loss. He pitched 2/3 of an inning and surrendered
2 hits and no walks.

Frankie Montas dominated striking out 10 San Francisco batters and Bryce
Harper blasted 2 homeruns as the Cincinnati Reds bested the lifeless San
Francisco Giants 5 to 2 at AT&T Park.
Montas(13-1) delivered a fine performance for Cincinnati. He went 6 and 2/3
innings allowing 6 hits and 2 walks. Cincinnati banged out 8 hits on the
afternoon.
Montas got help from Felipe Vazquez who was credited with his 24th save.
Asher Wojciechowski(6-15) ended up with the loss. 'He was really impressive
today,' Wojciechowski said of his counterpart. 'Our guys were just swinging
at air.'

The Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers easily topped the Arizona Diamondbacks; the final
score was 6 to 1.
Los Angeles(NL) started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their
half of the first as they scored 2 runs on 1 base hits. That early run
support was all that Dan Straily(3-12) required. Los Angeles(NL) finished
with just 6 hits in the victory.
Julio Teheran(14-8) was charged with the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 4 hits
in 6 innings.

Gio Gonzalez took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and first baseman Brandon
Belt went deep and had 2 RBI at Yankee Stadium where the New York (AL)
Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5 to 1.
Gonzalez(11-9) was virtually untouchable. He surrendered only 1 hit and 2
walks in 7 innings. The left-handed Gonzalez had his no-hit bid broken up by
Bo Bichette who singled with two outs in the 6th inning. New York (AL)
out-hit Toronto for the game, 8 hits to 2.
Giovanny Gallegos earned the save, his 23rd. Trent Thornton(11-7) took the
loss. With this win, New York (AL) has a 67-82 record. They have been 6-4
lately. With the loss Toronto now has a record of 89-62.
LOS ANGELES(AL) AT CLEVELAND

Obviously without his best stuff, Griffin Canning(10-5) still hung on to pick
up the win. He gave up 10 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings. Canning recorded 8
strikeouts. Cleveland threatened in the 9th but Los Angeles(AL) was able to
put down the rally.
A.J. Minter was credited with his 2nd save. The losing pitcher was Tanner
Roark(9-8). He was touched for 7 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.

hits. Jason Heyward led off and he drew a walk. Heyward was safe at second
on a stolen base. Berti then doubled knocking in a run. New York (NL)
continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. Tyler Flowers
followed, but he was set down on strikes. Jay Bruce added to the uprising
and slapped a single plating one more runner. Jeff McNeil stepped into the
batter's box and he reached on an error. David Dahl then hit a deep fly
scoring the final run of the inning. New York (NL) out-hit Pittsburgh for
the game, 11 hits to 7.
Justus Sheffield(3-4) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Gabriel Ynoa
earned the save, his 3rd. Brad Brach(0-3) ended up with the loss in relief.

the Chicago (AL) White Sox clobbered the outmatched Kansas City Royals, 13 to

Kansas City was unable to climb back into it after Chicago (AL) went ahead for
good in the top of the 3rd inning with 3 runs using 3 hits. After an out was
recorded, Cesar Hernandez jump-started the rally as he delivered a one-base
hit. Trey Mancini came to the plate and ripped a base-hit. Paul Goldschmidt
then belted a three-run homer. Chicago (AL) managed 12 hits in their
victory.
The victory went to Leake(12-11) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. The
losing pitcher was Clayton Richard(2-5). He gave up 5 runs in 4 and 1/3
innings of work.

Olson had a great day at the plate. He smashed a solo-shot out of the park in
the 3rd inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 5th inning and launched
a three-run homer in the 6th inning. Colorado had 15 hits overall, while San
Diego had 10.
The winning pitcher was Stephen Strasburg(16-3) who allowed 3 runs in 6
innings. Jesus Tinoco recorded his 2nd save. Dinelson Lamet(4-3) was the
loser. Colorado scored big getting 5 runs off him in 4 innings.
'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Olson said. 'Whenever I
would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
OAKLAND AT SEATTLE

Mitch Garver rocketed 3 homeruns as the Oakland Athletics destroyed the
Seattle Mariners by a score of 21 to 4 at T-Mobile Park.
Garver propelled Oakland to victory. He belted a three-run homer in the 1st
inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 3rd inning and
launched a Grand Slam homerun in the 9th inning. Oakland lit up the
scoreboard in the 1st inning with 4 runs on 4 hits, the 8th inning which saw
them plate 9 runs on 7 hits and the 9th inning tallying 4 runs. Oakland
ended up with 17 hits for the game while Seattle had 7.
The win went to Sonny Gray(17-4) who allowed 4 runs in 8 innings. Lance
Lynn(17-4) was the loser. He allowed 2 hits and 2 walks in 2/3 of an inning.
'I had a big day, but there's a lot of credit to go around' Garver said. 'We
played well together as a team.'
