Yankee Stadium.
Toronto scored 3 runs in the decisive 4th inning. The big moment was provided
by Mercer who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he belted a
three-run homer. New York (AL) was out-hit by Toronto, 11 hits to 8.
Matt Boyd(19-8) got the win allowing 4 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Boyd got
help from Jose Cisnero who earned his 1st save. Dallas Keuchel(6-13) was the
losing pitcher. Toronto knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 4 runs in 3
innings.
With this win, Toronto has a 89-61 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With
the loss, the New York (AL) ballclub's record is 66-82.

Richards gave a fine effort for Miami. He went 5 and 1/3 innings and
surrended up 4 hits and 3 walks. After the 4th inning, neither team was able
to score.
Nick Wittgren earned the save, his 7th. Wth the win Miami now has a record of
69-80. With the loss, Washington has a record of 5-5 lately, 48-101, worst
in the division overall.

Left fielder Jordan Luplow had 3 base hits and Max Scherzer struck out 16
batters as the impressive Pittsburgh Pirates topped the hapless New York (NL)

Scherzer(20-6) was very good in the win. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 5 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 2/3 innings. Pittsburgh finished with 12
hits while New York (NL) ended up with 6.
Kirby Yates earned his 40th save. Brett Anderson(7-13) ended up with the
loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3
innings.
Pittsburgh's manager was asked about the performance of Scherzer, 'He had his
good stuff out there tonight. The fans really get into it when the
strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more
adrenalin.'

Madison Bumgarner went 8 solid innings as the Texas Rangers defeated the
ice-cold Houston Astros 3 to 0 at Globe Life Park.
In the 3rd inning Texas went on top for good scoring a single run on 2 base
hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Roenis Elias earned the
save with a perfect ninth, his 12th save.
The victory was credited to Bumgarner(13-18) who went 8 innings, allowing no
runs. C.C. Sabathia(4-16) was hit with the loss. He struck out 10 batters in
7 innings despite losing the game.

Story enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He bombed a two-run dinger in the
1st inning, slapped a single in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 4th inning,
doubled in the 7th inning and laced a one-base hit which plated a run in the
8th inning. Colorado ended up with 17 hits for the game while San Diego had
9.
J.A. Happ(13-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 1
run. Kyle Freeland(9-9) was charged with the loss. He pitched 1 and 2/3
innings allowing 5 hits and no walks.

night.

smacked a single in the 3rd inning, lined a one-base hit bringing in two
baserunners in the 7th inning and doubled which brought home a run in the 9th
inning. Overall Tampa Bay out-hit Boston 10 to 6.
Paxton(15-6) went 7 innings allowing no runs for the win. Jeremy
Hellickson(2-7) took the loss. 'He was really impressive today,' Hellickson
said of his counterpart. 'Our guys were just swinging at air.'

Conforto had a big day at the plate. He ripped a solo home run in the 1st
inning, slapped a one-base hit in the 4th inning and clubbed a three-run home
run in the 6th inning. San Francisco was set down quietly in the bottom of
the 9th.
The win was credited to Luis Castillo(7-10) who went 5 innings allowing 3
runs. Felipe Vazquez got the save, his 23rd. Shaun Anderson(5-11) suffered
the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 8 hits and 3 walks
in 5 innings.
This win by Cincinnati continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten
games, they have a record of 8-2. For the season, they are 84-64. With the
loss San Francisco now has a record of 54-95, worst in the division.

At Progressive Field, the Cleveland fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.
Jose Berrios(12-13) finally bested his Cleveland opposite, Zach Plesac(7-4),
by the score of 2 to 1.
Berrios was very good in the win. He allowed only 4 hits and 2 walks in 7 and
1/3 innings. Cleveland had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Zack Britton was credited with his 21st save. Plesac was the loser.
Cleveland's manager was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is
really hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it
is easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just
barely get away that hurt so much - like this one!'

Byron Buxton had 4 hits as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Detroit Tigers in

Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Minnesota ended up
winning it in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Luis Arraez got
things going when he drew a walk. One out later, Buxton came to the plate
and drew a walk. Jose Peraza then smacked a single to load the bases.
Blaine Hardy then uncorked a pitch that was ruled a passed ball which plated
a run. Freddie Freeman came to the plate and was walked intentionally to

Escobar then lashed a single to load the bases. Tommy Pham was up next and
he laced a base-hit resulting in an exciting win for St. Louis and a wild
post-game celebration by the home town fans. St. Louis finished with 14 hits

Bryan Shaw(7-5) was the loser in relief. Right fielder Mike Trout slammed 3
