The Baltimore Orioles defeated the lifeless Washington Nationals by a score of
6 to 2 at Camden Yards.
Washington never recovered after Baltimore took the lead in the 2nd inning as
they scored 2 runs on 3 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by
Steve Wilkerson who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he laced a
single which was good for two runs. Washington was out-hit by Baltimore, 12
hits to 7.
The winning pitcher was Miles Mikolas(4-12) who allowed 1 run in 5 innings.
Brendan McKay(0-4) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 6 hits and 2 walks
in 3 and 2/3 innings.

The Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants locked up in an
exciting one-run game at Citizens Bank Park. The final score was the
Philadelphia Phillies 7, the San Francisco Giants 6 in 10 innings.
Both teams had scored 6 runs after nine full innings. Philadelphia was
victorious in the 10th inning. Nick Senzel doubled. Austin Barnes next to
the plate and he laced a base-knock giving Philadelphia the win much to the
delight of the home town crowd. Philadelphia had 13 hits for the afternoon
while San Francisco had 10.
Raisel Iglesias(4-5) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory.
Josh Osich(4-5) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning giving up
3 hits and no walks.
With this win, Philadelphia has a 51-68 record. They have been 6-4 lately.
San Francisco continued their losing ways and their record is now 38-79,

At Marlins Park the Miami Marlins were battered 8 to 1 by the streaking
Atlanta Braves.
Atlanta drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
plating an isolated run. Atlanta dominated offensively as they scored in 6
different innings.
Kyle Hendricks(12-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and
allowing 1 run. Trevor Richards(2-12) was the losing pitcher. Atlanta scored
big getting 6 runs off him in 5 innings.
For Atlanta, it was just another victory in their mounting winning streak.
Atlanta's manager was in a talkative mood after the ballgame. 'Fellows, I
don't know what to tell you. our guys are just playing lights out lately.
Everything and everybody is just really hitting on all cylinders. I know it
can't last forever - but that isn't going to stop us from trying!'

James Paxton delivered 7 solid innings as the Tampa Bay Rays bested the league
door-mat Boston Red Sox 8 to 2 at Tropicana Field.
Boston was unable to recover after Tampa Bay went ahead in the 3rd inning when
they tallied 2 runs on 1 hit. Tampa Bay out-hit Boston for the game, 6 hits
to 2.
Paxton(11-6) was the winner allowing no runs in 7 innings. Jeremy
Hellickson(2-4) ended up with the loss. He allowed Tampa Bay 5 runs in 3 and
2/3 innings of work.
The Tampa Bay ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 74-43.
Boston's manager was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been
sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or two. That
won't get it done.'

In a game at PNC Park the indomitable Arizona Diamondbacks got by the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 5 to 2.
In the 7th inning Arizona went on top for good scoring a single run on 3 base
hits. Arizona finished with 9 hits in the victory.
The win went to Ryan Yarbrough(9-5) who allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. Joe Smith
got the save, his 7th. The loss was charged to Max Scherzer(14-6). He
surrendered 3 runs and 7 hits in 6 innings.

One run was the difference at Kauffman Stadium as the Minnesota Twins defeated
the Kansas City Royals 3 to 2.
Minnesota came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 8th inning scoring
2 runs on 2 hits. Byron Buxton led off and started the rally when he drew a
walk. After an out was recorded, Lamonte Wade Jr came to bat and doubled
resulting in a run. One out later, Luis Arraez then ripped a one-base hit
scoring the final run of the inning. Neither team was able to score until
the 6th inning.
The victory was credited to Ryne Harper(3-2) who went 1 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 1 run. Harper got relief help from Sean Doolittle who gained credit
for his 4th save. The losing pitcher was Justin Shafer(3-2) in relief. He
pitched 1 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 1 hit and 1 walk.

Anthony Rizzo ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Toronto Blue Jays
defeated the woeful Houston Astros by a score of 7 to 4 at Minute Maid
Park.
Rizzo provided much of the offense. He smashed a two-run homer in the 1st
inning, blasted a solo shot in the 7th inning and banged out a single in the
9th inning. Toronto finished with 11 hits while Houston ended up with 7.
The victory went to Daniel Norris(10-3) who went 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing 4
runs. Norris got help from Tyler Duffey who earned his 3rd save. Kyle
Gibson(5-11) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 3 runs and 3 hits in 2/3 of
an inning.

The Milwaukee Brewers easily topped the Chicago (NL) Cubs; the final score was
9 to 3.
Milwaukee had 6 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 4th inning with the
help of 5 hits. The key at-bat was by Roman Quinn who brought a roar from
the partisan Miller Park fans when he delivered a base-hit bringing in two
baserunners. Milwaukee had 11 hits for the game and Chicago (NL) had 6.
The victory was credited to Brad Keller(7-15) who went 5 innings, allowing 2
runs. Keller got help from Enyel De Los Santos who was credited with his 1st
save. The loss was charged to Michael Wacha(8-7). He was not very
effective, surrendering 6 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.
CINCINNATI AT ST. LOUIS

First baseman Howie Kendrick had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Jeff Samardzija
mowed down 10 Cincinnati batters at Busch Stadium where the incredible St.
Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 4 to 2.
Tyler Clippard(4-1) was dominant in relief. No one got on base in his perfect
1 inning. St. Louis finished with 9 hits while Cincinnati ended up with 4.
Clippard was helped out by Brandon Workman who recorded his 28th save. Liam
Hendriks(6-8) was given the loss in relief. He gave up 3 hits and no walks
in 1 and 1/3 innings.

In a good matchup it was the Detroit Tigers 8, the Texas Rangers 5 in 12
innings at Globe Life Park.
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Detroit came out
the victor in the 12th inning. Justin Smoak led off and keyed the rally when
he doubled. Jose Abreu dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.
Harold Castro then ripped a base-hit scoring a run. Sam Hilliard was up next
and he slapped a single. Adalberto Mondesi came up to bat and banged out a
single scoring another run. Yan Gomes extended the rally and hit a sacrifice
fly scoring the final run of the inning. Detroit had 13 hits for the
afternoon.
Dillon Tate(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 innings and allowing
no runs. Jacob Waguespack(0-4) was the loser in relief.
COLORADO AT SAN DIEGO

Starling Marte ripped a bases loaded blast as the San Diego Padres bested the

Marte provided much of the offense. He cleared the bases with a Grand Slam
homerun in the 2nd inning and slapped a one-base hit scoring a run in the 4th
inning. Colorado had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Kyle Freeland(6-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing
5 runs. Freeland got help from Zac Grotz who was credited with his 1st save.
Mike Soroka(13-3) was given the loss.

Jacob Degrom carried a no-hitter into the 8th inning as the Seattle Mariners
defeated the Los Angeles(AL) Angels by the score of 4 to 1 at T-Mobile
Park.
Degrom(17-5) was virtually untouchable. He allowed only 1 hit and 2 walks in
7 and 1/3 innings. The right-handed Degrom had his no-hit bid broken up by
Eric Thames who singled with one out in the 8th inning. Overall Seattle
out-hit Los Angeles(AL) 7 to 4.
Yusmeiro Petit got the save, his 1st. Antonio Senzatela(7-6) was the loser.
He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the
game.

surrendered 2 homeruns. Los Angeles(NL) managed 12 hits in their victory.
Brett Anderson(6-11) was given the loss. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 9 hits and 4 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.

Shortstop Nick Ahmed had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Tyler Skaggs whiffed 12
batters at Yankee Stadium as the mighty Oakland Athletics beat the New York
(AL) Yankees 7 to 2.
Skaggs(7-1) was tremendous on the mound for Oakland. He didn't give up much,
just 3 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings improving his ERA from 5.11 to 4.41.
Oakland out-hit New York (AL) for the game, 10 hits to 3.
Dallas Keuchel(4-10) suffered the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 4 and
1/3 innings. Skaggs was humble when questioned about his performance, 'Well,
I felt pretty confident in my pitches this afternoon. But, I had great
support behind me and I just threw what was called. That was an extremely
well called game!'

Chicago (AL) never recovered after Cleveland took the lead in the 6th inning
plating 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After two were out Roberto Perez
kicked off the action when he hit a single. Yolmer Sanchez stepped up to the
plate and he smacked a single. Sanchez took second on the throw. Francisco
Lindor then stroked a base-hit scoring two teammates. Cleveland had 8 hits
for the afternoon.
The win was credited to Zach Plesac(5-2) who went 5 innings allowing 4 runs.
Plesac got relief help from Luke Jackson who gained credit for his 14th save.
Carlos Rodon(3-2) took the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs
in 5 and 2/3 innings.
