Wilmer Font(2-2) gave Philadelphia a solid outing. He surrendered 4 hits and
no walks in 5 innings. Philadelphia had 9 hits for the game and San
Francisco had 5.
Font got relief help from Brad Hand who gained credit for his 22nd save.
Jerad Eickhoff(2-3) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 7 hits and 2
walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
Philadelphia now has a record of 50-68. San Francisco continued their losing
ways and their record is now 38-78, worst in the division. They are 2-8 in
their last ten games.

Patrick Corbin had a strong outing at Marlins Park as the red-hot Atlanta
Braves, running on all cylinders, ripped the Miami Marlins by a large 10 to 0
margin.
Atlanta took the lead for good in the top of the 2nd inning plating an
isolated run utilizing 3 base hits. George Springer cracked a solo homerun.
That early scoring was all that Corbin(11-7) needed. Overall Atlanta out-hit
Miami 11 to 3.
Domingo German(8-9) was the losing pitcher. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 8 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.

Noah Syndergaard struck out 10 batters at Tropicana Field as the Tampa Bay
Rays beat the Boston Red Sox 4 to 2.
Syndergaard(13-6) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Boston offense.
He didn't give up much, just 3 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. Boston made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Trevor Gott recorded his 12th save. Jon Lester(7-9) was the loser. He
surrendered 6 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings. The Tampa Bay fans were
thrilled by the performance put forth by Syndergaard, but it was clearly his
strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10 strikeouts the fans
showed him their appreciation with a loud cheer.' Tampa Bay's manager said
following the game.

In a game at PNC Park the very talented Arizona Diamondbacks got by the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 5 to 2.
Kenta Maeda(17-5) pitched well for Arizona in their victory. He was reached
for 7 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. The pitchers took over after the 4th
inning as neither team was able to score again.
Aroldis Chapman gained credit for his 24th save. Zack Greinke(11-10) ended up
with the loss. He allowed 5 runs and 6 hits in 8 innings.

Starlin Castro jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI as the Washington
Nationals bested the lifeless Baltimore Orioles 4 to 3 at Camden
Yards.
Washington tallied 2 runs in the 5th inning. Richie Martin led off and got
things going when he delivered a one-base hit. Garrett Cooper followed next
and he bombed a two-run dinger. Baltimore had a chance to come back in the
9th but they came up short.
Alex Young(4-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 3
runs. Josh Hader was credited with his 20th save. Mike Minor(7-13) was hit
with the loss.
'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Baltimore's manager
'But we have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'

Steven Matz had an impressive outing at Kauffman Stadium as the Minnesota
Twins beat the Kansas City Royals by the count of 3 to 0.
Minnesota jumped out to the early lead in the first inning with 2 runs. After
an out was recorded, Jose Peraza started the attack as he drew a walk.
Freddie Freeman stepped up next and he smashed a two-run homer. That scoring
would be all that was needed. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd
inning.
The winning pitcher was Matz(8-9) who allowed no runs in 8 innings. Matz got
help from Daniel Mengden who earned his 3rd save. The losing pitcher was
Drew Smyly(3-7). He gave up 3 runs and 2 hits in 5 innings.

Texas was unable to claim the lead after Detroit went ahead in the 3rd inning
scoring 2 runners on 3 hits. Detroit finished with 14 hits while Texas ended
up with 7.
Gregory Soto(2-0) got the win allowing 2 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. Soto got
help from Buck Farmer who was credited with his 2nd save. Rick
Porcello(7-13) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 5 runs in 4 and 2/3
innings of work.
With this win, Detroit has a 54-64 record. They have been 6-4 lately. With
the loss Texas now has a record of 39-79.

Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Milwaukee ended up
winning it in the 10th inning. Dustin Garneau ripped a one-base hit. Ty
France came next and he drew a walk. Will Smith then laid down a sacrifice
bunt. Roman Quinn struck out, unable to help the rally. Diaz came to the
plate and ripped a single resulting in an exciting win for Milwaukee and a
wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Milwaukee had 9 hits for
the night while Chicago (NL) had 5.
The victory was credited to Smith(3-2) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Jeremy Walker(1-2) was hit with the loss in relief. By surrending 1 run in
2/3 of an inning his ERA jumped from 5.40 to 5.84.

Pillar had a big day with his bat. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the
2nd inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 4th
inning. Colorado totaled 11 hits on the night.
Stephen Strasburg(12-2) went 5 innings allowing 6 runs for the victory.
Strasburg got help from Scott Oberg who earned his 23rd save. Chase
Anderson(11-7) was given the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners

the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Ian Desmond hit a bases-empty
home run making Los Angeles(NL) victorious to the delight of the the home
town crowd. Los Angeles(NL) had a total of 10 hits for the game.
The victory went to Blake Treinen(5-5) who went 1 inning, allowing 1 run.
