Michael Pineda struck out 15 batters and Marcus Semien rocketed 3 homeruns and
had 5 RBI as the streaking Atlanta Braves really laid it on the Chicago (NL)
Cubs 15 to 5.
Semien really lit it up for Atlanta. The Chicago (NL) fans let him have it
for what he did to their boys. He cracked a two-run shot in the 1st inning,
blasted a solo shot in the 4th inning and smashed a two-run homer in the 9th
inning. Atlanta provided plenty of action in the 1st inning when they had 6
runs on 5 hits and the 4th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 5 hits.
Atlanta out-hit Chicago (NL) for the game, 15 hits to 8.
The victory went to Pineda(8-9) who went 8 innings, allowing 5 runs. The
losing pitcher was Michael Wacha(8-6). He pitched 2/3 of an inning and
surrendered 5 hits and 1 walk.
'He was really impressive today,' Wacha said of his counterpart. 'Our guys
were just swinging at air.'

In a close game it was the indomitable Arizona Diamondbacks 6, the Pittsburgh
Pirates 4 in 12 innings at PNC Park.
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Arizona won the hard
fought contest in the 12th inning. Ryan Goins started the inning off right
when he doubled. Freddy Galvis next to the plate and he lined a single
scoring a one-base hit run. Jackie Bradley Jr then stroked a base-hit. Eloy
Jimenez was up next and he drew a walk to load the bases. Charlie Blackmon
was the next batter, but he struck out. Jeurys Familia then bounced one in
the dirt for a wild pitch scoring the final run of the inning. The teams had
been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
Steve Cishek(3-0) got the win allowing no runs in 3 innings. Colin Poche
recorded his 6th save. Brad Brach(0-2) was tagged with the loss in relief.

Third baseman Manny Machado launched 2 homeruns and 3 RBI as the Baltimore
Orioles outscored the Boston Red Sox 9 to 2.
Machado provided much of the offense. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 4th
inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 6th inning. Baltimore had only
5 hits for the night.
The victory was credited to David Hess(6-11) who went 7 innings, allowing 2
runs. Hess got help from Chaz Roe who was credited with his 3rd save. Dustin
May(2-4) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered only 3 runs and 3 hits in 6
innings.

J.D. Martinez went deep and had 3 RBI at Citizens Bank Park as the Cincinnati
Reds beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the count of 12 to 4.
Cincinnati jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring 3 runners
on 3 hits. The big moment was provided by Martinez who silenced the crowd
when he lost the ball over the fence for three runs. Cincinnati finished
with 13 hits while Philadelphia ended up with 8.
Frankie Montas(8-0) allowed 4 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory.
Trevor Bauer(9-11) was hit with the loss. He surrended 3 homeruns in his 3
and 2/3 innings.

Zack Wheeler came through with a solid 8 innings as the Miami Marlins topped
the hopeless Washington Nationals in 12 innings by a score of 3 to 2 at
Marlins Park.
The score was knotted at zero after nine innings. Miami came out the victor
in the 12th inning. Brian Anderson banged out a single. Juan Soto followed
and he drew a walk. Lourdes Gurriel got his chance to keep things going, but
he went down on strikes. Wander Suero then had one get away for a wild
pitch. After another out, Josh Phegley stepped in and he drew a walk to load
the bases. Nico Hoerner added to the rally and slapped a one-base hit making
Miami victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Washington was
out-hit by Miami, 7 hits to 3.
The win went to Tyler Webb(1-2) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Suero(5-1)
was the loser in relief. He pitched 1 inning giving up 2 hits and 2 walks.

Albert Pujols had 2 base hits as the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota
Twins by a score of 4 to 2.
Justin Shafer(3-1) came on to close the door tight in relief. He didn't allow
much, just 2 hits and no walks in 3 innings seeing his ERA drop from 2.63 to
2.16. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs
scored after that point.
Shafer got help from Tanner Rainey who earned his 8th save. Jake Junis(10-8)
was charged with the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.

Zack Collins went yard and had 4 RBI as the Detroit Tigers defeated the
dreadful Texas Rangers by the score of 10 to 3 at Globe Life Park.
The Texas fans didn't appreciate the big day Collins had. He singled knocking
in a run in the 2nd inning, ripped a base-hit in the 7th inning and lofted a
three-run 'big-fly' in the 8th inning. Detroit managed 12 hits in their
victory.
Blaine Hardy(1-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 4 innings and allowing
1 run. Ariel Jurado(2-15) was given the loss. He allowed 5 runs and 6 hits
in 1 and 2/3 innings.

Anthony Rizzo lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI as the Toronto
Blue Jays crushed the awful Houston Astros 16 to 4.
Toronto put a big number on the board in the top of the 8th inning, which
proved too much for Houston to overcome as they pummeled Houston for 13 runs
on 7 hits. The key at-bat was by Danny Santana who silenced Minute Maid Park
as he blasted a two-run home run. Toronto kept the scorekeepers busy in the
8th inning when they had 13 runs on 7 hits. Toronto had 16 hits for the
night while Houston had 9.
Marcus Stroman(11-8) allowed 4 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory.
The loss was charged to Wily Peralta(1-1) in relief. He surrendered 1 hit
and 2 walks without retiring a batter.

Margot enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He doubled in the 4th inning,
lined a base-hit scoring two baserunners in the 5th inning and popped a
two-run clout over the fence in the 7th inning. New York (NL) threatened in
the 9th but their rally came up short.
The winning pitcher was Ryan Tepera(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Tepera was helped out by Fernando Rodney who recorded his 10th save. Robert
Gsellman(5-3) took the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving

had an impressive outing as the very strong Seattle Mariners defeated the Los

Bregman made sure the Seattle fans enjoyed themselves. He blasted a solo shot
in the 2nd inning, lined a base-hit in the 3rd inning, clubbed a solo home
run in the 6th inning and lined a single in the 8th inning. Seattle had a
total of 7 hits for the game.
The win was credited to Ken Giles(7-3) who went 2 innings allowing no runs.
The losing pitcher was Austin Adams(0-1) in relief. He was pinned with the
loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 2 innings of work.
