In a great finish the Texas Rangers came back in the top of the ninth and held
on to win over the Los Angeles(AL) Angels by a score of 5 to 4 at Angel
Stadium.
Texas came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. Brian McCann led off and started the rally when
he smacked a single. Rougned Odor was next and he cracked a two-run shot.
Texas had 9 hits overall, while Los Angeles(AL) had 5.
Keone Kela(2-4) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Jesse Chavez(3-3)
ended up with the loss in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 4 hits in 2 and 2/3
innings.
'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Chavez said. 'The bottom line is I
didn't get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'

One run was the difference at PNC Park as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the
Milwaukee Brewers 4 to 3.
Pittsburgh scored the deciding run in the 8th inning. Adam Frazier lofted a
solo-blast 'downtown'. Kirby Yates was perfect in the ninth giving him his
31st save on the season.
Archie Bradley(8-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing
no runs. Enyel De Los Santos(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.

Manny Machado cracked 3 homeruns and 7 RBI as the Baltimore Orioles clobbered
the outmatched Boston Red Sox, 17 to 3.
Machado punished Boston with his bat. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in
the 1st inning, lofted a three-run bomb in the 4th inning, clubbed a
three-run home run in the 6th inning and laced a one-base hit in the 8th
inning. Baltimore bats were very productive in the 4th inning scoring 5 runs
and the 8th inning which saw them score 5 runs on 6 hits. Overall Baltimore
out-hit Boston 14 to 8.
Yusei Kikuchi(5-10) allowed 2 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Jeremy Hellickson(2-3) was charged with the loss. He gave up 7 runs
in 3 and 2/3 innings of work.
'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed. Man alive, things were getting awfully
grim,' noted Baltimore's manager. 'Now, we need to string a bunch of wins
together and turn things around!'

Luis Castillo dominated striking out 10 Philadelphia batters as the Cincinnati
Reds outscored the Philadelphia Phillies 2 to 1.
The game was won by Cincinnati with a run in the 9th inning. J.D. Martinez
ripped a one-base hit. Bryce Harper was the next batter, but he struck out.
Miguel Sano then doubled. Michael Conforto stepped in and he hit a deep fly
scoring the run. Cincinnati had only 6 hits for the night.
The win went to Michael Feliz(3-1) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning.
Felipe Vazquez was credited with his 17th save. Ryan Pressly(5-3) suffered
the loss in relief.

With the crowd on their collective feet, screaming at the top of their lungs,
Detroit Tigers rallied to top San Francisco Giants by the score of 5 to
4.
Detroit scored the winning runs in the 9th inning plating 2 runs utilizing 3
base hits. After an out was recorded, Adalberto Mondesi began the Detroit
spurt when he ripped a solo home run. After another out, Mallex Smith came
up and he hit a single. Smith got a great jump and stole second easily.
Greg Garcia was up next and he stroked a base-hit making Detroit victorious
to the delight of the the home town crowd. Detroit managed 10 hits in their
victory.
Gregory Soto(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
The losing pitcher was Josh Osich(3-4) in relief. He gave up 2 hits and no

Gerrit Cole reeled off a total of 13 strikeouts at Kauffman Stadium where the
St. Louis Cardinals beat the Kansas City Royals by the score of 5 to

Cole(12-5) simply dominated Kansas City. He surrendered only 1 hit and 2
walks in 8 innings. St. Louis ended up with 6 hits for the game while Kansas
City had 2.
Zack Godley(2-11) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 4 hits and 2 walks
in 5 innings. Cole was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well,
it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of
cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and
quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the
game.'

The Houston Astros nipped the Arizona Diamondbacks 3 to 2 at Minute Maid Park
in a hard fought contest.
Houston scored 2 runs in the 7th inning with the help of 3 hits. They ended
up being the winning runs. Arizona tried unsuccessfully to come back in the
9th.
Wei-Yin Chen(2-2) got the win allowing no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. Matt
Grace got the save, his 1st. Ryan Yarbrough(8-5) was the losing pitcher. He
pitched 6 and 1/3 innings giving up 6 hits and no walks.
For Houston the victory was a welcome one, indeed. They had been struggling
in their last ten games with a disappointing 2-8 record. With the loss
Arizona now has a record of 72-41.

Nolan Arenado lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI as the Colorado

Field.
Colorado brought 4 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning when
they had 5 base hits. It was enough scoring to earn the victory. Colorado
had 13 hits for the game and New York (NL) had 8.
Reyes Moronta(6-1) was the winner allowing 1 run in 1 and 2/3 innings. Justus
Sheffield(1-3) was given the loss in relief. By giving up 4 runs in 1/3 of
an inning his ERA increased from 5.61 to 6.10.
The Colorado ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 75-39. New
York (NL) can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a
miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks.

In an entertaining game at Wrigley Field the final score was the Atlanta
Braves 6, the Chicago (NL) Cubs 3.
Atlanta jumped on top to stay in the 5th inning scoring a single run. After
two outs Shane Carle stepped in and he tossed a pitch that the catcher
mis-handled. Josh Bell followed and he drew a walk. George Springer then
stroked a base-hit to load the bases. D.J. Lemahieu followed and he drew a
walk scoring the run. Atlanta banged out 8 hits on the night.
Kyle Hendricks(11-5) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 6 and 2/3
innings. Hendricks got help from Alex Colome who was credited with his 18th
save. The loss was charged to Carle(0-1) in relief. He was a hard-luck
loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 inning of work.
