Luis Arraez collected 2 extra-base hits and Carlos Estevez delivered 4 and one
third solid innings as the Minnesota Twins beat the Tampa Bay Rays in 10
innings by a score of 4 to 2.
Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Minnesota was
victorious in the 10th inning. After two outs Whit Merrifield keyed the
rally when he ripped a single. Arraez followed and he tripled knocking in a
run. Freddie Freeman then lined a base-hit scoring the final run of the
inning. Neither team was able to score until the 6th inning.
Estevez(5-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 4 and 1/3 innings and
allowing no runs. David Phelps(1-2) was the losing pitcher in relief.

In a startling finish the Chicago (NL) Cubs staged a comeback then held on to
win over the woeful New York (NL) Mets by a score of 9 to 2 at Citi
Field.
Chicago (NL) bats came alive with a big top of the 9th inning as they creamed
New York (NL) blasting them with 8 runs on 7 hits. The key at-bat was by
Jake Rogers who silenced the crowd when he depressed the partisan hometown
fans with a grand slam home run. Chicago (NL) ended up with 11 hits for the
game while New York (NL) had 7.
The win went to Chris Martin(3-2) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings.
Mike Wright(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. Chicago (NL)'s manager was all
smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last at bats, is a
beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there? You could
have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey, that's what makes
baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over 'til
its over.'

Shane Bieber dominated striking out 13 Milwaukee batters and third baseman
Josh Donaldson smacked 2 homeruns as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the
Milwaukee Brewers by a score of 5 to 0 at Great American Bpk.
Bieber(11-10) dominated Milwaukee hitters. He allowed just 4 hits and no
walks in 8 innings. Milwaukee was out-hit by Cincinnati, 7 hits to 4.
John Means(14-11) took the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 7 innings.
Bieber was jubilant in the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun out
there. The fans gave me a lot of support as did my teammates. We got the
victory and I'll sure take 13 strikeouts anytime!'

Right fielder Josh Naylor connected with a 'big fly' and had 2 RBI at Marlins
Park where the Miami Marlins beat the Arizona Diamondbacks by the score of 4
to 3.
Arizona was unable to recover after Miami went ahead in the 3rd inning scoring
one runner. Arizona tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
The victory was credited to Chris Paddack(9-12) who went 7 innings, allowing 1
run. Casey Sadler earned the save, his 18th. Kenta Maeda(18-6) was given the
loss. He struck out 8 batters in 5 and 1/3 innings despite losing the game.
Arizona's manager was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is
really hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it
is easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just
barely get away that hurt so much - like this one!'

Catcher Gary Sanchez had 2 base hits at Progressive Field where the New York
(AL) Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians 3 to 2.
In the top of the 2nd inning New York (AL) went on top for good plating one
baserunner on 2 hits. New York (AL) and Cleveland each finished the
afternoon with 9 hits.
The victory went to Masahiro Tanaka(6-12) who went 6 and 1/3 innings, allowing
2 runs. Tanaka got help from Giovanny Gallegos who earned his 18th save. The
loss was charged to Aaron Civale(1-2).
With this win, New York (AL) has a 60-76 record. They have been 4-6 lately.
Cleveland has a record of 76-60 after the loss.

Andrew Miller pitched 3 strong innings and shortstop Jose Iglesias slammed a
homerun and had 3 RBI at Comerica Park as the Boston Red Sox came back
dramatically to top the Detroit Tigers by the score of 10 to 8.
Boston erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th inning with 3
runs on 4 base hits. Rafael Devers led off and got things going when he
delivered a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Khris Davis stepped up
to the plate and he laced a base-hit. Iglesias then launched a three-run
homer. Boston finished with 14 hits while Detroit ended up with 8.
The winning pitcher was John Gant(5-3) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an
inning. Matt Barnes got the save, his 10th. Buck Farmer(4-3) ended up with
the loss in relief. He allowed Boston 3 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings of work.
'The only way this one could have been better', said Gant, 'was if we had
played it at home.'

D.J. Lemahieu homered as the Atlanta Braves topped the Colorado Rockies in 12
innings by a score of 4 to 3 at SunTrust Park.
The score was tied at 2 after nine. Atlanta won the hard fought contest in
the 12th inning. Leury Garcia ripped a base-knock. Two outs later Tommy
Kahnle stepped in and he threw a wild pitch. Kahnle then uncorked a wild
pitch giving Atlanta the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.
Atlanta had 9 hits overall, while Colorado had 6.
Alex Colome(6-4) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. The
loss was charged to Kahnle(2-3) in relief. He allowed 1 run and 2 hits in 2
and 1/3 innings.

Ji-Man Choi knocked 3 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the Washington Nationals 8 to 2 at Nationals Park.
Choi was a source of great heartache for the Washington faithful all day. He
just kept pounding out hits! He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 1st
inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 5th inning and hit a
bases-empty home run in the 7th inning. Philadelphia had 13 hits for the
afternoon while Washington had 7.
Trevor Bauer(11-12) allowed 2 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory.
Reynaldo Lopez(4-18) took the loss. 'Ahhh, how sweet it is,' Philadelphia's
manager sighed. 'That win feels like a tall, cool drink of water after
spending far too much time in the desert lately.'

Center fielder Max Kepler blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Pittsburgh
Pirates topped the St. Louis Cardinals in 15 innings by a score of 5 to 4 at
Busch Stadium.
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Finally, Pittsburgh
prevailed in the 15th inning. Joey Votto drew a walk. After an out was
recorded, Austin Meadows came to the plate and slapped a base-hit. Kepler
then stroked a single scoring the run. Pittsburgh had 13 hits for the
afternoon while St. Louis had 9.
Clay Holmes(4-1) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Hyun-Jin Ryu(12-5)
was charged with the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 2 hits in 1

8 innings. Texas went down quietly in the bottom of the 9th.
Chaz Roe earned the save, his 5th. Jacob Waguespack(0-5) was tagged with the
loss in relief. 'He was really impressive today,' Waguespack said of his
counterpart. 'Our guys were just swinging at air.'

Hunter Strickland earned the save, his 5th. The losing pitcher was Dylan
Bundy(6-13). He was knocked around by San Francisco, allowing 7 hits and 4

Colten Brewer(3-2) was the winner as San Diego Padres shutout the Los
Angeles(NL) Dodgers by a 4 to 0 score at Dodger Stadium.
San Diego won the game with a run in the 8th inning. After two were out
Yadier Molina delivered a one-base hit. Brewer stepped into the batter's box
and he ripped a single, and an error was also committed, scoring the run.
San Diego managed only 6 hits on the afternoon.
Matt Andriese got the save, his 5th. Blake Treinen(5-7) was tagged with the
loss in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run
in his 1 inning of work.

innings and surrended up 8 hits and no walks. Jeffress was perfect in relief
and gained credit for his 6th save.
Tyler Skaggs(8-2) was given the loss. He pitched 7 innings allowing only 5

Bummer preserved the game for Quintana, recording his his 9th save. Kyle
Gibson(6-14) suffered the loss. He pitched 4 and 2/3 innings giving up 5

Seattle tallied 3 runs in the 5th inning when they had 3 base hits. Wilson
Ramos got things going when he lined a base-hit. Rio Ruiz got his turn next,
but he was a strikeout victim. Ozzie Albies followed, but he was set down on
strikes. Christian Yelich was up next and he doubled. Alex Bregman stepped
into the box and smacked a three-run homer. Ken Giles earned the save with a
perfect ninth, his 23rd save.
The winning pitcher was Spencer Turnbull(15-3) who allowed 2 runs in 6
innings. Max Fried(7-8) suffered the loss. The winning ways continue for
Seattle. They now have a record of 8-2 in recent days. With the loss, Los
Angeles(AL) has a record of 3-7 lately, 72-65 overall.
