The Washington Nationals snapped their 7 game slide and and the Philadelphia
Phillies locked up in an exciting one-run game at Nationals Park. The final
score was the Washington Nationals 2, the Philadelphia Phillies 1.
Wander Suero(6-1) slammed the door shut in an excellent relief performance.
He did not allow a hit or a walk in his 2 innings. After the 4th inning,
neither team was able to score.
Josh Hader gained credit for his 22nd save. Joey Lucchesi(8-10) ended up with
the loss. He pitched 7 innings giving up only 5 hits and no walks.
'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed. Man alive, things were getting awfully
grim,' noted Washington's manager. 'Now, we need to string a bunch of wins
together and turn things around!'

At Citi Field, the New York (NL) fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Wade
Miley(5-12) finally bested his Chicago (NL) opposite, Derek Law(0-8), by the
score of 3 to 1.
New York (NL) started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half
of the first as they scored 2 runs on 2 base hits. That scoring would be all
that was needed. Miley was helped out by Gabriel Ynoa who pitched a perfect
ninth and recorded his 2nd save.
Law was the loser. New York (NL) now has a record of 50-84. With the loss
Chicago (NL) now has a record of 60-75.

solid innings as the Milwaukee Brewers topped the Cincinnati Reds by a score
of 5 to 1 at Great American Bpk.
Milwaukee scored 2 runs in the decisive 4th inning. Milwaukee ended up with
11 hits for the game while Cincinnati had 2.
Chirinos(9-15) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 8 innings. The loss
was charged to Anthony Desclafani(9-9). He served up 4 gopher balls in 7
innings.

Right fielder Charlie Blackmon launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Marlins
Park where the very potent Arizona Diamondbacks beat the reeling Miami
Marlins by the score of 7 to 0.
Blackmon was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors. He smashed a solo-shot out of the park
in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 5th inning and popped a two-run clout over
the fence in the 9th inning. Arizona had 10 hits for the game and Miami had
7.
The winning pitcher was Julio Teheran(13-7) who allowed no runs in 5 and 2/3
innings. Aroldis Chapman earned his 28th save. Pablo Lopez(5-11) was given
the loss.

One run was the difference at Comerica Park as the Detroit Tigers came in to
the game in quite a tailspin, but they were able to snap their 5 game slide
and defeated the Boston Red Sox 3 to 2.
Detroit had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning. The
crucial at-bat was provided by Adalberto Mondesi who excited the crowd when
he bombed a two-run dinger. Joe Jimenez came throught with a perfect ninth
inning to earn his 5th save.
Logan Allen(2-2) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
Derek Holland(1-15) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 4 hits and 4
walks in 7 innings.

Byron Buxton hit a homerun and had 4 RBI as the Minnesota Twins outscored the
Tampa Bay Rays 5 to 2.
Buxton had a big day against Tampa Bay. He doubled resulting in a run in the
6th inning, rifled a three-run blast in the 7th inning and doubled in the 9th
inning. Tampa Bay was out-hit by Minnesota, 10 hits to 5.
The win was credited to David Price(9-7) who went 7 innings allowing 2 runs.
Hunter Wood recorded the save, his 3rd. The losing pitcher was David
Phelps(1-1) in relief.

Jorge Soler had 2 base hits as the indomitable Colorado Rockies came back to
win one over Atlanta Braves, 5 to 4.
Colorado had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning with 2 runs on 2
hits. After two were out Trevor Story opened up the rally as he drew a walk.
Matt Olson followed next and he cracked a two-run shot. For the game
Colorado out-hit Atlanta 12 to 8.
Reyes Moronta(8-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Scott Oberg got
the save, his 26th. Jerry Blevins(0-4) ended up with the loss in relief. He
gave up 1 hit and no walks without retiring a batter.
Atlanta's manager was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough
loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a
terse, yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to
lose. Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin'
on us tonight'

45,501 fans were treated to a fine game at Busch Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The spectacular St. Louis Cardinals
won by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
St. Louis tallied 1 run in the bottom of the 7th inning. Pittsburgh
threatened in the 9th but St. Louis was able to put down the rally.
Brandon Kintzler(7-2) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Brandon
Workman preserved the game for Kintzler, recording his his 31st save. Archie
Bradley(9-2) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings allowing 1
hit and 1 walk.
Pittsburgh's manager was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts.
If our guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won
that one. That is what really ticks me off!'

Right fielder Christian Yelich cracked 2 homeruns and Aaron Nola didn't allow
a hit until the 8th inning at T-Mobile Park as the incredible Seattle
Mariners beat the Los Angeles(AL) Angels 5 to 1.
Nola(10-3) was tremendous on the mound for Seattle. He surrendered only 1 hit
and 3 walks in 8 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.07 to 3.85. The
right-handed Nola lost his chance for a no-hitter when James McCann doubled
with one out in the 8th inning. Seattle had 8 hits for the night while Los
Angeles(AL) had 3.
Joakim Soria earned the save, his 3rd. Griffin Canning(8-5) was the loser.
He got hit pretty hard, allowing 7 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.
SAN DIEGO AT LOS ANGELES(NL)

Brandon Woodruff reeled off a total of 11 strikeouts as the Los Angeles(NL)
Dodgers rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over San Diego Padres,
3 to 2.
Los Angeles(NL) had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 3
base hits. After an out was recorded, Manuel Margot began the Los
Angeles(NL) spurt when he clubbed a solo home run. After another out, Ryan
O'Hearn came up and he drew a walk. Gerardo Reyes then bounced one in the
dirt for a wild pitch. Guillermo Heredia was up next and he was walked
intentionally. Keston Hiura stepped into the box and slapped a one-base hit
to load the bases. Dansby Swanson kept things alive and laced a base-knock
giving Los Angeles(NL) the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.
Los Angeles(NL) banged out 7 hits on the night.
The win went to Ryan Tepera(4-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. The losing
pitcher was Reyes(0-1) in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 2
hits and 2 walks.
Tepera and Hiura were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great
come from behind victory. As Los Angeles(NL)'s manager noted, 'A win like
this one can do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy -
the fans, the players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen
runs!'

Matt Boyd struck out 12 batters and Stephen Vogt slammed a homerun as the
Toronto Blue Jays topped the Oakland Athletics in 10 innings by a score of 7
to 6 at Rogers Centre.
The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings. Toronto came out the victor in
the 10th inning. Hunter Dozier smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' resulting in
an exciting win for Toronto and a raucous post-game celebration by the home
town fans. Oakland out-hit Toronto 12 to 7, but Toronto ended up with more
runs.
The victory was credited to Roberto Osuna(3-3) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Noe Ramirez(1-3) took the loss in relief. The Toronto ballclub's
record now stands at 82-55. With the loss, Oakland has a record of 4-6
