In a good matchup it was the Houston Astros 5, the Detroit Tigers 2 at
Comerica Park.
In the 4th inning Houston scored 3 runs when they came up with 3 base hits.
The big moment was provided by Adam Jones who silenced Comerica Park as he
doubled which was good for two runs. Houston rapped out 7 hits for the
afternoon.
The victory went to Jhoulys Chacin(8-12) who went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs.
Sean Newcomb earned the save, his 6th. Jaime Barria(2-9) took the loss.

The New York (NL) Mets cruised to a 10 to 5 victory over the floundering
Washington Nationals at Nationals Park.
New York (NL) set the tone of the game in the first inning with 2 runs on 3
base hits. Jeff McNeil kicked off the action when he delivered a base-hit.
David Dahl stepped up next and he hit a single. Pete Alonso then was hit by
a pitch. Yasiel Puig followed next and he ripped a base-knock knocking home
two runners. Even though they scored in 5 different innings, Washington was
not able to pull off the win.
The win went to Brett Anderson(7-12) who allowed 4 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Alex Young(6-3) was charged with the loss. By surrending 6 runs in 4 and 2/3
innings his ERA jumped from 3.24 to 3.74.

In an entertaining game at Great American Bpk the final score was the
Milwaukee Brewers 5, the Cincinnati Reds 2.
Luke Weaver(8-10) pitched a fine game. He went 7 innings allowing 4 hits and
2 walks. Milwaukee had only 6 hits for the game.
Frankie Montas(10-1) was tagged with the loss. Milwaukee now has a record of
56-77. With the loss, Cincinnati has a record of 6-4 lately, 73-61 overall.

Center fielder Kevin Pillar cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the Colorado
Rockies beat the Atlanta Braves by a score of 6 to 2.
J.A. Happ(12-6) earned his pay with a solid performance for Colorado. He went
7 innings surrendering 5 hits and no walks. Happ racked up 8 strikeouts and
was touched for 2 homeruns. Colorado out-hit Atlanta for the game, 13 hits
to 7.
Seth Lugo(3-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He was not very effective,
surrendering 3 runs in 2 innings.

Madison Bumgarner(12-15), with relief help from Tyler Chatwood, contained
Baltimore in an evening game. The Texas Rangers scored 6 runs in a winning
effort at Globe Life Park.
Texas took the lead for keeps in the 2nd inning scoring a single run utilizing
3 base hits. Edwin Encarnacion cracked a solo homerun. That scoring would
be all that was needed. Texas had 11 hits for the game and Baltimore had 8.
Bumgarner got help from Chatwood who earned his 1st save. Yusei Kikuchi(6-12)
ended up with the loss. He was touched for 9 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 1/3
innings.

The San Diego Padres bested the ice-cold Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers by a 4 to 1
score at Dodger Stadium.
San Diego jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring 2 runners
on 1 hit. That was all the offense they were to need. Both teams ended up
with 7 hits on the night.
Kyle Freeland(8-7) went 5 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Gerardo
Reyes recorded his 1st save. Dan Straily(2-11) suffered the loss.

Zach Plesac came through with a solid 7 innings as the Cleveland Indians
bested the Arizona Diamondbacks 6 to 2 at Progressive Field.
Arizona fell behind quickly as the Cleveland offense came through in the first
inning plating one baserunner using 2 hits. Overall Cleveland out-hit
Arizona 10 to 7.
Plesac(6-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing no
runs. Anibal Sanchez(10-6) ended up with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns
in his 4 and 1/3 innings.
OAKLAND AT TORONTO

Marcus Stroman delivered 8 solid innings as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the
Oakland Athletics by the score of 1 to 0 at Rogers Centre.
The game's only run was scored in the 7th inning. Oakland threatened in the
9th but their rally came up short.
Stroman(15-8) went 8 innings allowing no runs for the win. Roberto Osuna
recorded the save, his 21st. Clayton Kershaw(17-3) was the loser. It was a
tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 8 innings of
work.
Toronto's manager was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good
contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning
these tight ones! It was just our evening - no doubt about it!'

The Chicago (NL) Cubs and the slumping Miami Marlins locked up in an exciting
one-run game at Marlins Park. The final score was the Chicago (NL) Cubs 7,
the slumping Miami Marlins 6.
Javier Baez provided much of the offense. He tripled in the 3rd inning,
ripped a single in the 6th inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home
run in the 8th inning. Chicago (NL) ended up with 15 hits for the game while
Miami had 10.
Michael Wacha(9-9) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 7 innings. Wacha
got help from Rowan Wick who was credited with his 13th save. Trevor
Richards(2-14) suffered the loss. He was unable to control the Chicago (NL)
offense and allowed 10 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
BOSTON AT CHICAGO (AL)

Anderson enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He clubbed a two-run home run
in the 4th inning, laced a base-knock in the 6th inning and popped a two-run
clout over the fence in the 8th inning. Chicago (AL) finished with 15 hits
while Boston ended up with 3.
Jon Gray(14-8) went 8 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Glenn Sparkman(8-8)
took the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 8 runs in 5 and 1/3
innings.
'I felt great out there tonight' Anderson said. 'I was seeing the ball
perfectly, and I was right on it with my swing.
