Joey Votto had 2 base hits at PNC Park as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the
Miami Marlins 5 to 3.
Pittsburgh had the winning rally in the 8th inning plating 3 runs. Votto
started the inning off right when he drew a walk. Anthony Rendon was next
and he was hit by a pitch. Two outs later Adam Frazier came to bat and
launched a three-run homer. Miami out-hit Pittsburgh 9 to 6, but Pittsburgh
ended up with more runs.
The victory was credited to Archie Bradley(9-1) who went 2 innings, allowing
no runs. Nick Wittgren(4-5) was the losing pitcher in relief.

In a good matchup it was the Boston Red Sox 9, the Baltimore Orioles 7 in 14
innings at Camden Yards.
Both teams had scored 7 runs after nine full innings. Boston was victorious
in the 14th inning. Sandy Leon kicked off the action when he delivered a
base-hit. Ender Inciarte stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk.
Orlando Arcia then doubled scoring two teammates. Baltimore was set down
quietly in the bottom of the 14th.
Travis Lakins(2-0) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Chaz
Roe(1-4) was charged with the loss in relief. He gave up 1 hit and 3 walks
in 2 and 1/3 innings.

Wilmer Font(4-2) was solid if not spectacular. He went 5 innings surrendering
5 hits and 2 walks. Font racked up 6 strikeouts and gave up 2 homeruns.
Atlanta went down quietly in the 9th.
Brad Hand earned his 25th save. The losing pitcher was Kyle Hendricks(13-6).
He pitched 6 innings giving up 11 hits and 1 walk.

Center fielder Byron Buxton left the yard and had 2 RBI as the Minnesota Twins
won a dandy at Target Field over the Detroit Tigers, 5 to 4.
The game was won by Minnesota when they scored a run in the bottom of the 9th
inning. After two were out Jorge Alfaro doubled. Buxton stepped up next and
he ripped a one-base hit. Jose Peraza then banged out a single making
Minnesota the winners and sending the 37,057 fans home happy. Overall
Minnesota out-hit Detroit 10 to 7.
The win went to Sean Doolittle(3-3) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Edinson Volquez(1-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 3 hits and
no walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.

The Texas Rangers readily handled Houston Astros by a score of 8 to 4 at
Minute Maid Park.
Texas came up with the deciding runs in the 8th inning with 3 runs using 3
hits. After an out was recorded, Edwin Encarnacion began things off when he
lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. Robbie Grossman next to the plate and he
tripled. Todd Frazier was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Nick
Solak was up next and he drew a walk. Jose Trevino came up to bat and drew a
walk to load the bases. Ronald Guzman added his contribution to the rally
and laced a single accounting for two more runs. Texas finished with 11 hits
while Houston ended up with 8.
Tyler Chatwood(7-5) got the win allowing 1 run in 2 innings. Junior Guerra got
the save, his 2nd. Framber Valdez(3-4) was hit with the loss in relief.

Bryce Harper had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Luis Castillo whiffed 11 batters as the
Cincinnati Reds crushed the floundering Milwaukee Brewers 14 to 1.
Harper provided the offensive punch. He doubled resulting in a run in the 1st
inning, doubled plating a run in the 5th inning, doubled in the 7th inning
and delivered a one-base hit which brought home a run in the 8th inning. For
the game Cincinnati out-hit Milwaukee 17 to 8.
The win was credited to Castillo(4-10) who went 8 innings allowing 1 run. Luke
Weaver(7-10) took the loss. Cincinnati knocked him around a bit, as he gave
up 5 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.
Castillo didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he
had 11 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a
decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty
good, isn't it?'

C.J. Cron smacked 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat
the San Francisco Giants by a score of 9 to 0.
Cron had a great evening at the plate. He had the crowd cheering his every
move. He delivered a solo blast in the 2nd inning, cleared the fences for a
two-run home run in the 6th inning and cracked a two-run shot in the 8th
inning. Arizona had 8 hits overall, while San Francisco had 5.
Julio Teheran(12-7) went 8 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Zach
Eflin(7-13) was given the loss. Cron was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm
just seeing and hitting the ball real well now. I made some adjustments last
week and they are paying off. That's what this game is about. making
adjustments as the season goes along.'

Yu Darvish carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the amazing Tampa Bay
Rays defeated the Los Angeles(AL) Angels by the score of 5 to 3 at Angel
Stadium.
Darvish(17-7) was very good in the win. He didn't allow much, just 2 hits and
4 walks in 8 innings. The right-handed Darvish lost a no-hitter when Luis
Rengifo singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Los Angeles(AL) was
out-hit by Tampa Bay, 11 hits to 3.
Griffin Canning(8-4) was the loser. Despite losing, he struckout 12 Tampa Bay
batters in 6 and 1/3 innings. Darvish was humble when questioned about his
performance, 'Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches tonight. But, I
had great support behind me and I just threw what was called. That was an
extremely well called game!'

It was a good day for San Diego thanks to Molina. He laced a base-knock which
was good for two runs in the 2nd inning and clubbed a two-run home run in the
8th inning. San Diego had 10 hits for the night while Washington had 7.
The win went to Chase Anderson(12-7) who allowed 2 runs in 5 innings. Reynaldo
Lopez(4-16) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around, surrendering 5
runs in 2 innings.

In a game at Wrigley Field the St. Louis Cardinals offense put up 4 runs on
the scoreboard in the 5th inning and got by the Chicago (NL) Cubs by the
score of 6 to 3.
Tyler Clippard(5-1) won the game with a masterful relief performance. No one
got on base in his perfect 2 innings. St. Louis banged out 8 hits on the
afternoon.
The losing pitcher was Bryan Shaw(6-3) in relief. He was pinned with the loss
despite not allowing an earned run in his 2 innings of work.
St. Louis now has a record of a division leading 86-42. With the loss, the
Chicago (NL) ballclub's record is 57-72.

Kris Bryant had 2 base hits as the Cleveland Indians defeated the slumping
Kansas City Royals in 10 innings by the score of 5 to 4 at Kauffman
Stadium.
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Finally, Cleveland pulled the
game out in the 10th inning. Francisco Lindor drew a walk. Nick Markakis
followed, but he was set down on strikes. Tanner Rainey then bounced one in
the dirt for a wild pitch. Bryant was up next and he doubled scoring the
run. Kansas City out-hit Cleveland 11 to 6, but Cleveland ended up with more
runs.
Shawn Kelley(2-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 1 inning. Jarlin
Garcia gained credit for his 11th save. Rainey(5-4) took the loss in relief.
He pitched 2 innings and surrendered 1 hit and 3 walks.

inning. Overall Colorado out-hit Los Angeles(NL) 16 to 12.

Straily(2-10) was charged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits

At T-Mobile Park, the Seattle fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Lance
Lynn(16-2) finally bested his Chicago (AL) opposite, Carlos Rodon(3-4), by
the score of 1 to 0.
Lynn pitched well for Seattle in their victory. He went 6 and 2/3 innings
allowing 3 hits and 2 walks. Chicago (AL) made it exciting in the 9th, but
they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Ken Giles preserved the game for Lynn, recording his his 21st save. Rodon was
the loser. Seattle now has a record of a division leading 94-36. Chicago
(AL) has a record of 67-61 after the loss.
