Austin Meadows smacked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at PNC Park where the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Detroit Tigers by the score of 8 to 5.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Meadows. He belted a three-run homer in the 1st inning, ripped a
base-knock in the 3rd inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 7th
inning. Detroit threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Dario Agrazal(1-0) went 7 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Kirby Yates
earned the save, his 34th. Tyler Alexander(1-5) ended up with the loss. He
was knocked around pretty good, giving up 7 runs in 3 innings.
Meadows was jubilant after the game 'Let me see a box-score' he joked, 'I want
to see how that game looks on paper.'

David Hess(7-12) and Rick Porcello(7-14) treated the Baltimore fans to a fine
pitching duel at Camden Yards. The Baltimore Orioles eventually emerged as
victors over the Texas Rangers by the score of 1 to 0.
Hess gave a fine effort for Baltimore. He was reached for 5 hits and 3 walks
in 6 innings. Baltimore rapped out 7 hits for the night.
Paul Fry got the save, his 3rd.

Noah Syndergaard(15-6) delivered a fine performance for Tampa Bay. He
surrendered 7 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. Syndergaard whiffed an
impressive total of 9 New York (AL) batters. Tampa Bay managed 9 hits in
their victory.
Trevor Gott gained credit for his 13th save. Giovanny Gallegos(2-3) was given
the loss in relief. Wth the win Tampa Bay now has a record of a division

Marcus Walden who was excellent in relief and gained credit for his 4th save.
The loss was charged to Brad Peacock(3-2) in relief. Despite the loss, he

Austin Riley jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI as the Philadelphia
Phillies topped the Miami Marlins by a score of 15 to 10 at Marlins
Park.
Riley led the offense for Philadelphia. He ripped a single in the 1st inning,
lined a one-base hit in the 3rd inning and clubbed a three-run home run in
the 8th inning. Philadelphia provided plenty of action in the 1st inning
with 4 runs on 5 hits. Offensively, Philadelphia was a juggernaut. They
scored in 6 separate innings.
Collin McHugh(4-5) got the win allowing 1 run in 1 inning. Elieser
Hernandez(2-6) was charged with the loss in relief. He gave up 7 runs in 3
innings of work.

Marcus Semien had 5 hits and 6 RBI and Charlie Morton reeled off a total of 12
strikeouts as the red-hot Atlanta Braves really laid it on the Milwaukee
Brewers 17 to 1.
Semien was in a groove all evening. He doubled which scored a run in the 1st
inning, cracked a two-run shot in the 2nd inning, laced a single which
brought home a run in the 4th inning, doubled knocking in a run in the 7th
inning and singled bringing in a run in the 8th inning. Atlanta lit up the
scoreboard in the 4th inning which saw them score 7 runs on 6 hits and the
8th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 6 hits. Atlanta finished with 18
hits while Milwaukee ended up with 3.
The victory was credited to Morton(13-5) who went 8 innings, allowing 1 run.
Freddy Peralta(0-8) was tagged with the loss. Atlanta scored big getting 8
runs off him in 3 and 1/3 innings.
When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Morton offered, 'The fan's
really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up
there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy tonight - of course, it
would be all for naught without the 'W'.'

Javier Baez had 2 base hits as the Chicago (NL) Cubs defeated the Los
Angeles(NL) Dodgers in 12 innings by a score of 4 to 2 at Wrigley Field.
The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Chicago (NL) came out
the victor in the 12th inning. Jonathan Davis started the inning off right
when he smacked a single. Alex Blandino followed and he lifted one out of
the park for a two run home run resulting in an exciting win for Chicago (NL)
and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Both teams
totaled 9 hits on the night.
The winning pitcher was Bryan Shaw(6-2) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Nate
Jones(1-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 2 hits without
retiring a batter.

In an entertaining game at Minute Maid Park the final score was the Houston
Astros 7, the Seattle Mariners 4.
In the 4th inning Houston scored 4 runs. The crucial at-bat was provided by
Brad Miller who elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he launched a
Grand Slam homerun. Houston finished with 9 hits in the victory.
The win was credited to Adam Wainwright(3-14) who went 7 innings allowing 2
runs. Josh James was credited with his 15th save. The loss was charged to
Eduardo Rodriguez(10-6). He allowed 7 runs and 9 hits in 8 innings.

The Colorado fans didn't appreciate the big day Cooper had. He slapped a
base-hit in the 1st inning, stroked a single in the 5th inning, lofted a
solo-blast 'downtown' in the 7th inning and blasted a two-run home run in the
8th inning. Overall Washington out-hit Colorado 15 to 10.
The victory went to Alex Young(6-2) who went 5 innings, allowing 1 run.
Stephen Strasburg(12-3) was the loser. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Washington now has a record of 40-87. With the loss Colorado now has a record
of 82-45.

outing as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Kansas City Royals by the

Maeda(18-5) escaped virtually unscathed against the Kansas City hitters. He
allowed only 2 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. Maeda recorded 9 strikeouts.
Arizona had 6 hits for the game and Kansas City had 3.
Dylan Bundy(6-12) suffered the loss. He allowed 4 hits and no walks in 5

delivered a base-hit bringing in a run in the 7th inning. New York (NL) had
13 hits for the night while Los Angeles(AL) had 10.
Dakota Hudson(9-10) allowed 4 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Jason Vargas(2-5) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 5 and 1/3

Asher Wojciechowski had an impressive outing and Welington Castillo went yard
at PETCO Park as the San Francisco Giants beat the San Diego Padres by the
count of 5 to 1.
In the top of the 2nd inning San Francisco went on top for good plating an
isolated run. Castillo took matters into his own hands and smashed a
bases-empty 'big-fly'. Overall San Francisco out-hit San Diego 11 to 3.
Wojciechowski(5-12) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 7 innings. Jake
Arrieta(7-10) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk in 5
and 2/3 innings.
San Francisco now has a record of 42-83. With this loss, San Diego has a 6-4
record of late, 68-58 overall.

Designated hitter Jose Martinez left the yard at RingCentral Coliseum where
the incredible Oakland Athletics beat the Cleveland Indians 4 to 3.
Oakland tallied 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. The biggest moment
was provided by Hanser Alberto who made the crowd happy when he belted a
three-run homer. Cleveland threatened in the 9th but their rally came up
short.
Eric Lauer(11-6) got the win allowing 1 run in 7 innings. Hansel Robles was
credited with his 28th save. Danny Duffy(9-8) suffered the loss. He gave up
6 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.
Oakland's manager was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good
contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning
these tight ones! It was just our evening - no doubt about it!'
