Third baseman David Bote launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Mark Melancon
quieted any hopes that Milwaukee may have had of a comeback as the Chicago
(NL) Cubs defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 12 to 6 at Wrigley Field.
It was a good day for Chicago (NL) thanks to Bote. He bombed a two-run dinger
in the 1st inning and clubbed a two-run home run in the 7th inning.
Offensively, Chicago (NL) was a juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate
innings.
Michael Wacha(8-5) allowed 4 runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory.
Wacha got help from Melancon who earned his 8th save. Freddy Peralta(0-5)
was given the loss. He couldn't find the strike zone and allowed 5 walks in
2 and 2/3 innings.

The Toronto Blue Jays toppled the Baltimore Orioles by a 7 to 3 score at
Rogers Centre.
Baltimore was unable to recover after Toronto went ahead in the bottom of the
6th inning scoring 2 runners on 1 hit. The key at-bat was by Danny Santana
who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he popped a two-run clout
over the fence. Toronto had a total of 7 hits for the game.
Marcus Stroman(10-8) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings
and allowing 3 runs. Stroman got help from Tim Mayza who was credited with
his 1st save. Mike Minor(7-12) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 6 innings
allowing 3 hits and 5 walks.
Toronto now has a record of 66-45. Not able to get much going in recent
weeks, Baltimore is 1-9 of late and now has an overall record of 35-76, worst
in the division.

Sean Doolittle had an impressive outing at Target Field as the Minnesota Twins
won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Houston Astros by the count
of 10 to 7.
Minnesota had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning when they
tallied 5 runs on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Jorge
Alfaro who excited the crowd when he lofted a three-run 'big-fly'. Minnesota
had 13 hits overall, while Houston had 9.
The win went to Edgar Garcia(1-1) who allowed 1 run in 2 innings. Josh
James(1-4) was tagged with the loss in relief. 'That was exciting!,' Alfaro
said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.'

The Miami Marlins put 5 runs on the scoreboard in the 9th inning and had an
easy time of it at Citi Field defeating the league door-mat New York (NL)
Mets by a score of 9 to 3.
New York (NL) was unable to claim the lead after Miami went ahead in the top
of the 7th inning as they scored 3 runs on 3 base hits. The key at-bat was
by Juan Soto who silenced Citi Field as he blasted a two-run home run. Miami
had 14 hits for the game and New York (NL) had 4.
Chris Paddack(6-11) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 6 innings. Austin
Brice earned the save, his 4th. Dakota Hudson(8-9) took the loss.
With this win, Miami has a 56-56 record. They have been 6-4 lately. With the
loss, the New York (NL) ballclub's record is 41-69.

The Philadelphia Phillies cruised to a 9 to 4 victory over the San Diego
Padres in 10 innings at PETCO Park.
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Finally, Philadelphia pulled
the game out in the 10th inning. The big moment was provided by Yandy Diaz
who silenced PETCO Park as he lofted a three-run bomb. Philadelphia banged
out 13 hits on the night.
Craig Stammen(2-1) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
The loss was charged to Jake Faria(0-1) in relief. He allowed 4 hits and no
walks without retiring a batter.

Right fielder Christian Yelich cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Angel
Stadium as the powerful Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles(AL) Angels by

The Los Angeles(AL) fans didn't appreciate the big day Yelich had. He smashed
a two-run homer in the 4th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the
9th inning. Seattle finished with 10 hits while Los Angeles(AL) ended up
with 7.
Eduardo Rodriguez(9-5) went 8 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Griffin
Canning(7-2) ended up with the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering
6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.

In an embarrassing outing for the New York (AL) Yankees pitching staff, Boston
Red Sox flexed their collective muscle amassing 16 runs as Tyson
Ross(2-4)with the help of the bullpen allowed New York (AL) 7 runs.
Khris Davis provided much of the offense. He caught a hold of a fastball for
a Grand Slam homerun in the 1st inning, lined a one-base hit which plated a
run in the 5th inning and slapped a base-hit in the 8th inning. Boston bats
were very productive in the 1st inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 6 hits
and the 5th inning with 7 runs on 6 hits. Overall Boston out-hit New York
(AL) 17 to 12.
The losing pitcher was Felix Pena(5-6).

Garver made sure the Oakland fans enjoyed themselves. He lifted one out of
the park for a two run home run in the 4th inning and belted a three-run
homer in the 8th inning. Oakland had 14 hits overall, while Texas had 7.
Ian Kennedy(6-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. The
loss was charged to Jacob Waguespack(0-3) in relief. He surrendered 1 hit
and 2 walks without retiring a batter.

Hicks was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors. He smashed a solo-shot out of the park
in the 7th inning and clubbed a two-run home run in the 9th inning. Tampa
Bay finished with 7 hits in the victory.
Nick Anderson(5-9) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Diego Castillo
recorded his 4th save. Joe Kelly(1-3) was tagged with the loss in relief.
Wth the win Tampa Bay now has a record of a division leading 68-42. With the
loss Cincinnati now has a record of 62-49.

36,560 fans watched an exciting game at PNC Park. The St. Louis Cardinals
topped the Pittsburgh Pirates by the slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.
St. Louis had the game winning rally in the top of the 8th inning plating 2
runs utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Brock Holt was the
sparkplug when he stroked a single. Trea Turner got his chance to keep
things going, but he went down on strikes. Kolten Wong then doubled scoring
a run. Howie Kendrick followed next and he was walked intentionally.
Eduardo Escobar came to the plate and laced a base-knock scoring the final
run of the inning. Brandon Workman came throught with a perfect ninth inning
to earn his 27th save.
Brandon Kintzler(5-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Zack
Greinke(10-9) was the loser. He surrendered 5 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 2/3
innings.

In the 2nd inning Cleveland went on top for good scoring 3 runs on 2 base
hits. After an out was recorded, Benintendi started the attack as he cracked
a solo homerun. A.J. Pollock came to the plate and was hit by a pitch.
Pollock then stole second base. After another out, Roberto Perez stepped up
to the plate and he bombed a two-run dinger. That was all Aaron Civale(1-0)
needed. Cleveland had 7 hits for the night.
Jose Quintana(9-9) was the loser. He served up 3 homeruns in his 2 and 2/3
innings.

That was all the offense they were to need. Neither team managed to score
after the 3rd inning.
