Brewers beat the Chicago (NL) Cubs 11 to 10.
Longoria enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He laced a base-knock scoring a run
in the 3rd inning, banged out a single in the 4th inning, lined a one-base
hit in the 6th inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the
8th inning. Chicago (NL) threatened in the 9th but Milwaukee was able to put
down the rally.
The victory went to Yonny Chirinos(8-12) who went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs.
Chirinos was helped out by Will Smith who recorded his 15th save. The losing
pitcher was Zac Rosscup(1-3) in relief. He allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in 2/3
of an inning.
Milwaukee, who had been struggling lately, moved their record to 48-61. They
are now 2-8 in their last ten games. With the loss Chicago (NL) now has a
record of 49-61.

Pittsburgh Pirates topped the St. Louis Cardinals by the slimmest of margins,
6 to 5.
Chris Bassitt(15-4) pitched a fine game. He went 7 innings and surrended up 5
hits and 1 walk and surrendered 4 'round-trippers'. St. Louis threatened in
the 9th but their rally came up short.
Kirby Yates recorded his 30th save. Edwin Diaz(1-1) was charged with the loss
in relief. No one has been able to stop Pittsburgh lately as they lengthened
their winning streak to 7 games.

Toronto went ahead for good in the bottom of the 4th inning scoring one runner
on 2 hits. Toronto managed 10 hits in their victory.
The win was credited to Aaron Brooks(6-8) who went 6 innings allowing 3 runs.
Brooks got relief help from Jeremy Jeffress who gained credit for his 3rd
save. David Hess(5-11) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings
and surrendered 6 hits and 2 walks.

Detroit surrendered all of the runs Kansas City needed in the 3rd inning when
they came up with 6 runs on 7 hits. The highlight belonged to Jean Segura
who deflated the crowd as he lost the ball over the fence for three runs.
After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.
Caleb Ferguson(1-1) went 5 innings allowing no runs for the win. Tyler
Alexander(1-4) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs
in 2 and 2/3 innings.

The Cincinnati fans enjoyed the offense provided by Harper. He smacked a
three-run homer in the 1st inning, doubled in the 6th inning and hit a
bases-empty home run in the 8th inning. Cincinnati rapped out 8 hits for the
night.
Anthony Desclafani(7-7) went 7 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Liam
Hendriks got the save, his 2nd. Nick Anderson(4-9) suffered the loss in
relief. He allowed 2 runs and 2 hits in 2 and 2/3 innings.
'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Harper said. 'Whenever I
would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'

Minnesota found themselves trailing quickly as the Houston bats came through
in the first inning scoring 2 runners on 1 hit. The biggest moment was
provided by Yordan Alvarez who quieted the home crowd when he bombed a
two-run dinger. Houston had 11 hits for the night.
Jhoulys Chacin(7-9) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 6 innings.
Chacin got help from Sean Newcomb who was credited with his 4th save. Marco
Gonzales(10-9) took the loss. He was unable to control the Houston offense
and allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.
Wth the win Houston now has a record of 33-76. Minnesota has a record of
56-55 after the loss.

relief.
'Some losses are harder to take than others' San Francisco's manager lamented
after the game. 'This was one of them.'

Adam Morgan earned the save, his 1st. The loss was charged to Ryan
Brasier(1-1) in relief. The Arizona fans were thrilled by the performance
put forth by Teheran, but it was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed
most. 'When he reached 10 strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation
with a loud cheer.' Arizona's manager said following the game.

got help from Shane Greene who was credited with his 19th save. Jose
Berrios(8-11) absorbed the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and

Jake Arrieta(6-9) was charged with the loss. He was not very effective,
surrendering 5 runs in 3 innings. Bauer was asked about his big strikeout
performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the
road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets
real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the
crowd out of the game.'
