Second baseman Logan Forsythe jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI and
Lucas Giolito came through with a solid 8 innings as the Washington Nationals
beat the Colorado Rockies by a score of 8 to 1.
Forsythe provided much of the offense. He doubled in the 5th inning, cleared
the fences for a two-run home run in the 6th inning and ripped a one-base hit
which brought home a run in the 8th inning. For the game Washington out-hit
Colorado 10 to 3.
Giolito(5-8) went 8 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Chris Sale(8-6) was
tagged with the loss. He struck out 11 batters in 7 innings despite losing
the game.

Trevor Richards(2-10) got the win but did not look spectacular. He gave up 4
runs, 6 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings. Even though they scored in 5
different innings, Tampa Bay was not able to pull off the win.
Nick Wittgren got the save, his 5th. Yu Darvish(15-5) absorbed the loss. He
pitched 8 innings giving up 5 hits and 4 walks.

Kyle Schwarber had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Minnesota Twins defeated the
Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers 7 to 4 at Target Field.
David Price(8-7) gave a fine effort for Minnesota. He allowed 2 hits and 4
walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. Price chalked up 7 strikeouts. The Los
Angeles(NL) bats were silent in the 9th.
Carlos Estevez was credited with his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Jordan
Zimmermann(4-9). Wth the win Minnesota now has a record of 56-54. With the
loss, the Los Angeles(NL) ballclub's record is 47-62.

Jon Gray whiffed 11 batters as the Chicago (AL) White Sox bested the Detroit
Tigers 3 to 2 at Guaranteed Rate Fld.
Gray(11-6) pitched a solid game. He went 7 innings and surrended up 5 hits
and 4 walks. Chicago (AL) and Detroit each finished the afternoon with 5
hits.
Gray was helped out by Taylor Rogers who recorded his 17th save. The loss was
charged to Blake Parker(5-8) in relief. He pitched 2 innings and surrendered
2 hits and no walks.
The Chicago (AL) fans were thrilled by the performance put forth by Gray, but
it was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10
strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud cheer.' Chicago
(AL)'s manager said following the game.
PITTSBURGH AT SAN DIEGO

Max Scherzer reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts and Max Kepler had 2 base
hits as the potent Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Diego Padres by the
score of 5 to 4 at PETCO Park.
The game was won by Pittsburgh with a run in the top of the 9th inning. After
an out was recorded, Elias Diaz delivered a one-base hit. Jose Osuna
followed and he doubled. After another out, Anthony Rendon was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Kepler was up next and he reached on an
error scoring the run. Pittsburgh had 13 hits for the game and San Diego had
5.
The victory went to Scherzer(14-5) who went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs. Archie
Bradley gained credit for his 2nd save. Josh Tomlin(1-2) ended up with the
loss in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned
run in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work.
Scherzer, when asked about his 10 strikeout performance noted, 'The important
thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team?
But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'

Ozzie Albies went yard and Jacob Degrom racked up an impressive total of 10
strikeouts as the Seattle Mariners defeated the reeling Texas Rangers by a
score of 4 to 2 at T-Mobile Park.
Degrom(15-5) had a solid outing for Seattle. He went 6 and 1/3 innings
surrendering 3 hits and no walks and allowed 2 gopher balls. Texas had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Shane Greene recorded his 18th save. Rick Porcello(6-12) suffered the loss.
He got hit pretty hard, allowing 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.
Seattle's manager was asked about the performance of Degrom, 'He had his good
stuff out there this afternoon. The fans really get into it when the
strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more
adrenalin.'
BALTIMORE AT BOSTON

Shortstop Jose Iglesias had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Fenway Park where the Boston
Red Sox beat the dreadful Baltimore Orioles by the score of 8 to
2.
Baltimore was unable to recover after Boston went ahead in the 2nd inning as
they scored 2 runs on 1 base hits. Boston finished with 10 hits while
Baltimore ended up with 6.
The win was credited to Jeremy Hellickson(2-2) who went 7 innings allowing 1
run. Zach Davies(3-11) was charged with the loss. He allowed 5 hits and 5
walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
The Boston ballclub's record now stands at 44-64. Baltimore's manager was
pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately,
something like 2-8 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'

(AL) Yankees beat the hopeless New York (NL) Mets by a score of 2 to 1.
The game started off with New York (AL) taking the lead in the first plating
one baserunner. New York (NL) could do no damage in the bottom of the 9th.
Nova(4-8) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 1 run.
Giovanny Gallegos earned the save, his 11th. Andrew Cashner(5-14) was the
losing pitcher.

In a close game the amazing Atlanta Braves got by the Cincinnati Reds by the
score of 5 to 3.
Atlanta claimed the early lead in the first inning when they came up with 3
runs on 3 hits. Cincinnati threatened in the 9th but Atlanta was able to put
down the rally.
The winning pitcher was Charlie Morton(8-5) who allowed 3 runs in 6 and 2/3
innings. Alex Colome earned his 15th save. The losing pitcher was Shane
Bieber(9-8).
'You have to give Cincinnati credit, they fought us tough to the end'
Atlanta's manager said. 'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we
pulled out the victory.'

43,248 fans were treated to a fine game at Angel Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Los Angeles(AL) Angels won by
the slimmest of margins, 7 to 6.
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, Los
Angeles(AL) pulled the game out in the 10th inning. After an out was
recorded, Ronald Acuna jump-started the rally as he slapped a one-base hit.
Nicholas Castellanos stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk.
Xander Bogaerts then drew a walk to load the bases. Cesar Puello stepped in
and he smacked a single driving in a run. Luis Rengifo came up to bat and
ripped a base-hit making Los Angeles(AL) the winners and sending the 43,248
fans home happy. Los Angeles(AL) had 17 hits overall, while Toronto had 13.
The win went to Jesse Chavez(3-2) who allowed 1 run in 2 innings. Roberto
Osuna(1-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 4 hits and 2 walks
in 1 and 1/3 innings.

First baseman Howie Kendrick had 4 hits and 4 RBI at Miller Park where the
very talented St. Louis Cardinals beat the struggling Milwaukee Brewers 14 to
10.
Kendrick had a big evening at the plate. He lined a single in the 1st inning,
delivered a one-base hit which brought home a run in the 6th inning, clubbed
a two-run home run in the 7th inning and doubled in the 9th inning. St.
Louis kept the scorekeepers busy in the 6th inning which saw them plate 5
runs on 5 hits. St. Louis had many opportunities throughout the game and
scored in 6 separate innings.
Cam Bedrosian(1-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing
no runs. Brad Keller(6-14) was the losing pitcher. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 11 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.

One run was the difference at Chase Field as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks in 10 innings 4 to 3.
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Finally, Philadelphia pulled
the game out in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Corey Seager
lined a one-base hit. Ji-Man Choi followed next and he ripped a single.
Hunter Renfroe then drew a walk to load the bases. Gleyber Torres was up
next and he hit a deep fly scoring the run. Philadelphia rapped out 7 hits
for the night.
Ryan Pressly(5-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Brad
Hand gained credit for his 19th save. Pedro Baez(4-3) suffered the loss in
relief.

In a tight game it was the Chicago (NL) Cubs 5, the San Francisco Giants 3 at
AT&T Park.
Chicago (NL) came up with 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning with the help of
3 hits. After an out was recorded, Ronny Rodriguez opened up the rally as he
doubled. Javier Baez was next and he laced a base-knock scoring a run. Baez
took second on the throw. Mike Trout then was hit by a pitch. Kevin
Kiermaier followed next and he stroked a one-base hit to load the bases.
David Bote came to the plate and reached on an error with two more runners
crossing home. Chicago (NL) ended up with 10 hits for the game while San
Francisco had 3.
Merrill Kelly(7-9) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Kelly got help
from Bryan Shaw who was credited with his 6th save. Zach Eflin(7-11) took
the loss.
OAKLAND AT HOUSTON

Tyler Skaggs whiffed 10 batters and Yasmani Grandal added four ribbies to his
seasonal total with one swing of the bat at Minute Maid Park as the Oakland
Athletics belted the reeling Houston Astros by the count of 15 to 2.
Grandal had a big day against Houston. He lined a one-base hit in the 3rd
inning and launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand Slam homerun in
the 9th inning. Oakland kept the scorekeepers busy in the 5th inning which
saw them score 6 runs on 5 hits and the 9th inning with 6 runs on 4 hits.
For the game Oakland out-hit Houston 20 to 5.
Skaggs(6-1) got the win allowing 1 run in 7 innings. C.C. Sabathia(3-11) was
the losing pitcher. He allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
Skaggs was humble when questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty
confident in my pitches this afternoon. But, I had great support behind me
and I just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!'
KANSAS CITY AT CLEVELAND

In a thriling finish the Cleveland Indians pulled off the win over the Kansas
City Royals by a score of 4 to 3 at Progressive Field.
The deciding run was scored by Cleveland in the 9th. After an out was
recorded, Matt Adams drew a walk. Yolmer Sanchez came to the plate and drew
a walk. Tanner Rainey then threw a wild pitch. Grayson Greiner followed and
he reached on an error giving Cleveland the win as 33,431 happy fans joyfully
celebrated. Cleveland rapped out 8 hits for the night.
Mike Morin(4-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no
runs. Rainey(5-3) was the losing pitcher in relief.
