lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI at Citizens Bank Park as the
Philadelphia Phillies beat the lifeless New York (NL) Mets by the count of 2
to 1.
Bauer(8-10) put on a good performance. He surrendered only 4 hits and no
walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. New York (NL) threatened in the 9th but their
rally came up short.
Brad Hand earned his 17th save. Dakota Hudson(8-8) absorbed the loss.
Philadelphia's manager was asked about the performance of Bauer, 'He had his
good stuff out there this afternoon. The fans really get into it when the
strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more
adrenalin.'

Anthony Desclafani came through with a solid 7 innings and Miguel Sano had 2
base hits at Great American Bpk where the Cincinnati Reds beat the Colorado
Rockies 7 to 3.
Desclafani(6-7) gave a fine effort for Cincinnati. He was reached for 3 hits
and 1 walk in 7 innings. Cincinnati had only 6 hits for the game.
Steven Brault(6-5) was the losing pitcher. He couldn't find the plate,
issuing 8 walks in 4 innings. Wth the win Cincinnati now has a record of
58-47. Colorado will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent
8-2 run - and not a start of a new trend.

Nico Hoerner smacked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Miami Marlins defeated
the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers by the score of 8 to 3 at Marlins Park.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Hoerner. He clubbed a three-run home run in the 1st inning and
popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 8th inning. Miami had 9 hits
for the game and Los Angeles(NL) had 5.
Zack Wheeler(12-4) allowed 3 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Dan
Straily(2-7) took the loss. He pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up 5 hits and

Noah Syndergaard(11-6), with relief help from Michael Lorenzen, blanked the
Detroit Tigers at Tropicana Field. The Tampa Bay Rays scored 5 runs for the
victory.
Eugenio Suarez had a good day at the plate. He stroked a one-base hit
bringing in a run in the 1st inning, tripled which was good for two runs in
the 3rd inning and blasted a solo shot in the 6th inning. Tampa Bay rapped
out 7 hits for the afternoon.
Tyler Alexander(1-3) suffered the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 6 hits in 5
innings.

and 1 walk in 2 innings. Atlanta banged out 13 hits on the afternoon.
Luis Garcia(3-6) was charged with the loss in relief. He allowed 2 runs and 2
hits in 1 inning.

The San Diego Padres got by the Kansas City Royals in 13 innings at Kauffman
Stadium. The final score was 5 to 3.
The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. San Diego was
victorious in the 13th inning. David Peralta led off and keyed the rally
when he delivered a one-base hit. Fernando Tatis Jr stepped up to the plate
and he laced a base-hit. Eric Hosmer then lined a single scoring a run.
After an out was recorded, Yadier Molina came to bat and lashed a one-base
hit scoring the final run of the inning. San Diego totaled 12 hits on the
afternoon.
The winning pitcher was Josh Tomlin(1-1) who allowed no runs in 3 innings.

In a great finish the Minnesota Twins came back in the top of the ninth and
held on to win over the Chicago (AL) White Sox by a score of 5 to 3 at
Guaranteed Rate Fld.
Minnesota came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning when
they tallied 4 runs on 3 hits. Chicago (AL) out-hit Minnesota 10 to 5, but
Minnesota ended up with more runs.
Carlos Estevez(3-3) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the win.
Estevez got relief help from Sean Doolittle who gained credit for his 3rd
save. Taylor Rogers(3-3) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 3 hits
and 2 walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.
Minnesota's manager was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your
last at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out
there? You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey,
that's what makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says,

Andrew Heaney retired 15 batters on strikeouts and second baseman Adam Frazier
cracked 2 homeruns as the Pittsburgh Pirates smashed the overmatched
Milwaukee Brewers, 16 to 0.
Frazier was in a groove all day. The Milwaukee fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box. He lined a one-base hit in the 4th inning,
blasted a Grand Slam homerun in the 7th inning and delivered a solo blast in
the 8th inning. Pittsburgh lit up the scoreboard in the 7th inning with 7
runs on 4 hits and the 8th inning which saw them plate 7 runs on 6 hits.
Pittsburgh ended up with 15 hits for the game while Milwaukee had 2.
Heaney(7-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing no
runs. Yonny Chirinos(7-12) was given the loss. He allowed 5 hits and 3 walks
in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Heaney was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd
when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running
tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange -
but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'

and clubbed a solo home run in the 8th inning. Los Angeles(AL) had 15 hits
for the afternoon while Texas had 7.
The win was credited to Griffin Canning(7-1) who went 7 innings allowing no
runs. James Norwood(0-1) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an
inning allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.

In a dramatic ending the Arizona Diamondbacks staged a comeback and held on to
win over the struggling San Francisco Giants by the count of 5 to 4.
Arizona scored the winning runs in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on
2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Robbie Grossman began the Arizona
spurt when he drew a walk. Ildemaro Vargas got his chance to keep things
going, but he went down on strikes. Jackie Bradley Jr then doubled knocking
in a run. Yuli Gurriel stepped in and he was walked intentionally. Eloy
Jimenez came to the plate and delivered a base-hit scoring the final run of
the inning. San Francisco out-hit Arizona 11 to 7, but Arizona ended up with
more runs.
The win was credited to Drew Pomeranz(2-0) who went 2 innings allowing no
runs. Pomeranz got relief help from Aroldis Chapman who gained credit for his
22nd save. Yimi Garcia(3-8) was tagged with the loss in relief.
'The only way this one could have been better', said Pomeranz, 'was if we had
played it at home.'

inning and doubled in the 9th inning. Toronto simply wore out the Seattle
pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.

Eduardo Rodriguez(8-5) was given the loss. The Toronto ballclub's record now

New York (AL) Yankees broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out a
10 to 8 win over the Boston Red Sox and sending their hometown fans home
smiling.
New York (AL) came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning plating 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. After two outs Gary Sanchez got things rolling when
he doubled. Brandon Belt stepped into the batter's box and he cleared the
fences for a two-run home run resulting in a mighty exciting win for New York
(AL) and the 45,150 home town fans in attendance. Due to a poorly pitched
ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for Boston to
come away with the victory.
The victory was credited to James Pazos(2-1) who went 1 and 1/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Marcus Walden(1-3) suffered the loss in relief.
Wth the win New York (AL) now has a record of 45-60. With the loss Boston now
has a record of 42-63.

inning and ripped the struggling Baltimore Orioles by a 10 to 5 count.

went 5 innings and surrended up 5 hits and 1 walk. Oakland out-hit Baltimore
for the game, 14 hits to 10.
Mike Minor(7-11) took the loss. He was knocked around by Oakland, allowing 7
hits and 2 walks in 2 innings. The Oakland ballclub's record now stands at
71-34. Baltimore's manager was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really
been sputtering along lately, something like 1-9 in the last week or two.
That won't get it done.'
