In an entertaining game at Camden Yards the final score was the indomitable
Seattle Mariners 6, the Baltimore Orioles 3.
Jacob Degrom(14-5) gave a fine effort for Seattle. He surrendered 5 hits and
no walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. Degrom recorded 8 strikeouts. Seattle had a
total of 8 hits for the game.
The loss was charged to Yusei Kikuchi(4-9). He gave up 3 runs in 2 and 1/3
innings of work. Seattle continued their winning ways, with their streak now
at 6 games and counting. Seattle's manager was happy with his team's
performance of late - 'They're playing solid ball right now' he said. 'Let's
hope they can stay focused.'

Howie Kendrick homered and had 3 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the
pitiful San Francisco Giants by the score of 7 to 2 at Busch Stadium.
The St. Louis fans enjoyed the offense provided by Kendrick. He ripped a
single which plated a run in the 4th inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly'
in the 6th inning and doubled which scored a run in the 7th inning. San
Francisco was out-hit by St. Louis, 10 hits to 7.
Hyun-Jin Ryu(10-4) allowed 1 run in 6 innings, and picked up the victory.
Jerad Eickhoff(2-1) was given the loss. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings
allowing 5 hits and 3 walks.

The Milwaukee Brewers edged the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers at Dodger Stadium by
the score of 4 to 3.
In the 3rd inning Milwaukee went on top for good plating one baserunner on 2
hits. Los Angeles(NL) had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up
short.
John Means(12-8) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory.
Junior Fernandez was credited with his 2nd save. Tyler Mahle(10-6) took the
loss. He pitched 7 innings giving up 10 hits and no walks.
Despite losing Los Angeles(NL)'s manager was optimistic after the game.
'We'll get over this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they
don't. Any one of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on
top.'

In a game for the baseball purist, Kenta Maeda(15-4) and Steven Matz(7-7)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, incredible Arizona Diamondbacks finally
emerged victorious over Minnesota Twins, 2 to 0.
Maeda was solid in the win. He surrendered only 4 hits and 1 walk in 7
innings. The Minnesota bats were silent in the 9th.
Aroldis Chapman preserved the game for Maeda, recording his his 20th save.

First baseman Michael Chavis had 2 base hits at Rogers Centre where the Boston
Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 2 to 0.
Jon Lester(6-7) delivered a fine performance for Boston. He went 6 and 1/3
innings allowing 4 hits and 2 walks reducing his ERA from 5.17 to 4.90.
Boston had just 5 hits for the afternoon.
Lester was helped out by Marcus Walden who recorded his 3rd save. Trent
Thornton(9-4) suffered the loss. Despite losing, he struckout 10 Boston
batters in 7 innings.

Jurickson Profar ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at PNC Park where the San
Diego Padres beat the Pittsburgh Pirates in 13 innings 8 to 6.
The score was tied at 6 after nine. Finally, San Diego pulled the game out in
the 13th inning. After two were out Mookie Betts initiated the scoring spurt
when he lined a base-hit. Justin Turner came next and he drew a walk. David
Peralta then tripled which was good for two runs. San Diego had 19 hits for
the game and Pittsburgh had 13.
Jake Diekman(1-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 3 innings. Danny Salazar
got the save, his 1st. Adrian Houser(1-1) was tagged with the loss in
relief. He allowed 2 hits and 1 walk in 1 inning.

Yankees beat the Los Angeles(AL) Angels 10 to 4.
Los Angeles(AL) was unable to climb back into it after New York (AL) went
ahead for good in the bottom of the 7th inning when they tallied 2 runs on 3
hits. The biggest moment was provided by Aaron Judge who made the crowd
happy when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run. New York
(AL) had 18 hits overall, while Los Angeles(AL) had 8.
The win was credited to Giovanny Gallegos(2-2) who went 3 innings allowing 2
runs. Jose Berrios(8-9) was hit with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 9
hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Ji-Man Choi blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies beat
the Washington Nationals by a score of 15 to 7.
Choi made sure the Philadelphia fans enjoyed themselves. He clubbed a two-run
home run in the 2nd inning, doubled bringing in a run in the 5th inning and
laced a base-hit in the 7th inning. Philadelphia lit up the scoreboard in
the 5th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 6 hits and the 7th inning which
saw them score 4 runs on 4 hits. For the game Philadelphia out-hit
Washington 19 to 13.
The victory was credited to Robbie Ray(4-5) who went 5 innings, allowing 5
runs. Jefry Rodriguez(0-6) was charged with the loss. His ERA ballooned from
4.74 to 5.40 as he allowed 2 runs in 1/3 of an inning.

J.D. Martinez touched them all and had 4 RBI and Frankie Montas struck out 10
batters as the Cincinnati Reds ballclub embarrassed the floundering New York

Martinez enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He doubled in the 1st inning,
doubled plating two runs in the 2nd inning and bombed a two-run dinger in the
8th inning. Cincinnati kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they
scored in 6 different innings.
The win went to Montas(6-0) who allowed 1 run in 8 innings. Cole Hamels(4-9)
was the loser. He got hammered, allowing 6 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.
Montas was jubilant in the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun out there.
The fans gave me a lot of support as did my teammates. We got the victory
and I'll sure take 10 strikeouts anytime!'
TAMPA BAY AT KANSAS CITY

18,401 fans were treated to a fine game at Kauffman Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The impressive Tampa Bay Rays won by
the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
The game was won by Tampa Bay with a run in the top of the 9th inning. Paul
Dejong lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. The Kansas City batters didn't put up
a fight in the bottom of the 9th.
Nick Anderson(4-7) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 and 1/3
innings. Tanner Rainey(5-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. With this win,
Tampa Bay has a division leading 66-37 record. They have been 6-4 lately.
With the loss, the Kansas City ballclub's record is 50-53.

Second baseman Brian Dozier had 2 base hits as the Houston Astros defeated the
awful Texas Rangers by the score of 3 to 2 at Globe Life Park.
Houston came up with 2 runs in the 3rd inning. After an out was recorded,
Dozier got things rolling when he drew a walk. Yordan Alvarez followed and
he drew a walk. J.D. Davis then tripled driving home two runs. That early
run support was all that Adam Wainwright(2-11) required. Texas threatened in
the 9th but Houston was able to put down the rally.
Wainwright was helped out by Sean Newcomb who recorded his 3rd save. Taylor
Clarke(1-2) was given the loss in relief. Texas' manager was in a sour mood
after the game. 'Even you guys up in the press box know why we lost this
game. We made too many mistakes.'

After two outs Lourdes Gurriel became the sole author of the rally when he
cracked a bases-empty home run. Miami banged out 10 hits on the night.
The win was credited to Chris Paddack(5-11) who went 5 and 2/3 innings
allowing 2 runs. J.D. Hammer recorded his 1st save. Stephen Strasburg(11-2)
was the losing pitcher. Despite taking the loss, he whiffed 10 batters in 7
innings.

Detroit scored 4 runs in the decisive 6th inning when they came up with 5 base
hits. The highlight belonged to Sam Hilliard who made the crowd happy when
he belted a three-run homer. Detroit banged out 12 hits on the night.
Nick Ramirez(3-1) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Parker recorded
his 8th save. Jon Duplantier(1-1) took the loss in relief. He allowed 4
runs and 4 hits in 1 inning.
