In a lop-sided win the Pittsburgh Pirates ripped the San Diego Padres by a 6
to 1 count.
Pittsburgh set the tone of the game in the first inning as they scored 3 runs
on 3 base hits. That was all the offense they were to need. Both teams'
bats went to sleep after the 3rd inning with no runs scored after that point.
Andrew Heaney(6-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing
1 run. The loss was charged to Jake Arrieta(6-8). He surrendered 6 runs and
5 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.
This win by Pittsburgh continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten
games, they have a record of 9-1. For the season, they are 61-39. The loss

Center fielder Cody Bellinger had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the Seattle Mariners
bested the pitiful Baltimore Orioles 10 to 2 at Camden Yards.
Bellinger provided much of the offense. He laced a one-base hit in the 1st
inning, doubled in the 5th inning, bombed a two-run dinger in the 6th inning
and doubled in the 8th inning. Seattle had 17 hits overall, while Baltimore
had 5.
Spencer Turnbull(12-2) got the win allowing 1 run in 6 innings. Edinson
Volquez recorded the save, his 1st. Miles Mikolas(2-11) was charged with the
loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 5 and 2/3 innings.

a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Buchholz got help from Zack Britton who earned his 16th save. Felix Pena(5-5)

separated the combatants at game's end. The Philadelphia Phillies won by the
slimmest of margins, 9 to 8.
Philadelphia took the lead for keeps in the 5th inning scoring 3 runners on 2
hits. The highlight belonged to Yandy Diaz who made the crowd happy when he
smacked a three-run homer. Washington had a chance to come back in the 9th
but they came up short.
Trevor Bauer(7-10) allowed 5 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory.
Brad Hand gained credit for his 16th save. Jalen Beeks(5-5) ended up with
the loss in relief. He was knocked around, surrendering 3 runs in 2 innings.
The Philadelphia ballclub's record now stands at 39-62. Washington can't seem
to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 2-8 record
over the last couple weeks.

of work. 'Everything felt great' Boyd said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I

20,857 fans watched an exciting game at Kauffman Stadium. The Kansas City
Royals put 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 4th inning and topped the Tampa
Bay Rays by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
Tanner Rainey(5-1) did the job in relief, and he got credit for the win. He
allowed 1 hit and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings and struckout 5 Tampa Bay
batters. Tampa Bay tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Rainey got relief help from Hector Neris who gained credit for his 16th save.
James Paxton(10-5) took the loss. Kansas City knocked him around a bit, as
he gave up 4 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.
Tampa Bay's manager was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is
really hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it
is easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just
barely get away that hurt so much - like this one!'

Javier Baez launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Chicago (NL) Cubs

Baez was really 'in the zone'. He delivered a solo blast in the 1st inning,
ripped a solo home run in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 4th inning and
slapped a base-hit which was good for two runs in the 8th inning. Chicago
(NL) managed 15 hits in their victory.
The winning pitcher was Michael Wacha(7-5) who allowed 2 runs in 5 and 1/3
innings. Bryan Shaw was credited with his 4th save. Mike Leake(5-7) took the
loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 3 and 2/3 innings of work.
'They made a couple of mistakes and I took full advantage,' Baez said 'next
time I'm sure they'll pitch me tougher.'

In a thriling finish the Texas Rangers pulled off the win over the dreadful
Houston Astros by a score of 9 to 8 at Globe Life Park.
The game was won by Texas with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After
an out was recorded, Todd Frazier smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' making
Texas the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Texas finished
with 12 hits in the victory.
Emmanuel Clase(1-0) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win.
Dominic Leone(1-1) took the loss in relief. He allowed 1 hit and no walks in

Busch Stadium pulling it out in their last at bats, 9 to 8.
The game was won by St. Louis when they scored a run in the 9th inning. After
an out was recorded, Carson Kelly drew a walk. Eddie Rosario was next and he
smacked a single. Harrison Bader then reached on an error making St. Louis
the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Both teams totaled
11 hits on the night.
The victory was credited to Brandon Workman(3-1) who went 1 inning, allowing 1
run. Lewis Thorpe(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 1
hit and 1 walk in 1/3 of an inning.

walks in 5 innings. 'Everything felt great' Brault said. 'I had a good
fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody tonight.'

The score was tied at 4 after nine. Finally, Arizona pulled the game out in
the 17th inning. After two outs Cron delivered a solo blast giving Arizona
the win as 34,735 happy fans joyfully celebrated. The score went
back-and-forth with the lead changing 5 times.
The victory went to Kenta Maeda(14-4) who went 4 innings, allowing no runs.
David Price(7-7) was the losing pitcher in relief. He allowed 1 run and 1
