separated the combatants at game's end. The Seattle Mariners won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
Brandon Brennan(3-0) looked good in relief and was the winning pitcher. He
surrendered no hits and 1 walk in 1 and 2/3 innings. The Baltimore bats were
silent in the bottom of the 9th.
Ken Giles recorded his 15th save. Mike Minor(7-10) ended up with the loss.
He served up 3 homeruns in his 7 innings.

Xander Bogaerts jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI as the Los
Angeles(AL) Angels outscored the New York (AL) Yankees 12 to 9.
Although Antonio Senzatela(5-5) had a rough time of it, he still managed to
pick up the win. He gave up 9 runs in 6 innings and allowed 2 gopher balls.
Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still
not enough for New York (AL) to come away with the victory.
Zack Britton got the save, his 15th. Gio Gonzalez(7-8) was charged with the
loss.

where the Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of

Alex Young(2-2) was in control of the game from the outset. He allowed only 3
hits and 2 walks in 7 innings improving his ERA from 4.97 to 4.00.
Washington had 9 hits overall, while Philadelphia had 6.
Caleb Smith(1-4) took the loss. He surrended 4 homeruns in his 5 innings.

Noah Syndergaard went 8 solid innings as the very potent Tampa Bay Rays
defeated the Kansas City Royals by the score of 5 to 2 at Kauffman
Stadium.
Kansas City was unable to climb back into it after Tampa Bay went ahead for
good in the 3rd inning when they tallied 2 runs on 2 hits. That was all
Syndergaard(10-6) needed. Tampa Bay out-hit Kansas City for the game, 9 hits
to 3.
Syndergaard got help from David Phelps who was credited with his 2nd save.
Dylan Bundy(6-10) was the loser. He was knocked around by Tampa Bay,
allowing 7 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.

At Wrigley Field the Chicago (AL) White Sox outdistanced the Chicago (NL) Cubs
by a final score of 5 to 1.
Chicago (AL) started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half
of the first plating one baserunner. Chicago (NL) was out-hit by Chicago
(AL), 11 hits to 5.
The victory was credited to Carlos Rodon(2-0) who went 5 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 1 run. Taylor Rogers earned his 16th save. Derek Law(0-5) absorbed
the loss. He allowed 1 run and 1 hit in 1 inning.

Left fielder Leury Garcia had 2 base hits at Globe Life Park where the Houston
Astros beat the Texas Rangers 5 to 3.
Houston took the lead for keeps in the top of the 3rd inning scoring one
runner on 2 hits. Melky Cabrera doubled. After another out, Pat Valaika got
his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Garcia then
lashed a single scoring the run. Texas had a chance to come back in the 9th
but they came up short.
The win went to Jhoulys Chacin(6-9) who allowed 3 runs in 5 innings. Chacin
got help from Josh James who earned his 13th save. The losing pitcher was
Matt Harvey(3-10).
SAN FRANCISCO AT ST. LOUIS

In a two run game the St. Louis Cardinals got by the hapless San Francisco
Giants by the score of 5 to 3.
St. Louis won the game with a rally in the 8th inning with 2 runs using 2
hits. After two were out Howie Kendrick started the rally when he was hit by
a pitch. Eduardo Escobar followed and he clubbed a two-run home run. St.
Louis had only 5 hits for the night.
Tyler Clippard(3-1) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
Sam Selman(1-1) was the loser in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving
up 2 hits and 2 walks.

At Coors Field, the Colorado fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. J.A.
Happ(7-6) finally bested his Miami opposite, Pablo Lopez(5-7), by the score
of 4 to 0.
Colorado jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring a single
run. That early scoring held up. For the game Colorado out-hit Miami 10 to
5.
Lopez took the loss. In another of a string of victories, Colorado extended
their winning streak to 7 games.

The Minnesota Twins had an easy time of it at Chase Field defeating the
Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 7 to 2.
Freddie Freeman provided the offensive punch. He slapped a one-base hit in
the 3rd inning and emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 7th
inning. Neither team was able to score until the 7th inning.
Jake Junis(9-7) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings.
Hunter Wood was credited with his 1st save. Julio Teheran(9-6) suffered the
loss.

Aledmys Diaz blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated
the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers 7 to 2 at Dodger Stadium.
In the top of the 2nd inning Milwaukee went on top for good when they came up
with 2 runs on 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Brandon Drury who quieted
the home crowd when he blasted a two-run home run. Milwaukee banged out 10
hits on the night.
The win was credited to Yonny Chirinos(7-11) who went 6 and 2/3 innings
allowing 1 run. The losing pitcher was Dan Straily(2-6). He was not very
effective, surrendering 6 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.

Marcus Stroman struck out 11 batters as the Toronto Blue Jays topped the
Boston Red Sox by a score of 4 to 1 at Rogers Centre.
Stroman(8-8) simply dominated Boston. He didn't allow much, just 4 hits and 2
walks in 8 innings. Toronto finished with 10 hits while Boston ended up with
6.
The loss was charged to Dustin May(2-2). He was unable to control the Toronto
offense and allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
Boston's manager was upset after the game. 'I don't like to complain but did
you see that umpires strike zone?', he said. 'Maybe they ought to start
calling the strike zone the way it's printed in the rule book.'
