The Baltimore Orioles nipped the Tampa Bay Rays 5 to 4 at Camden Yards in a
hard fought contest.
David Hess(5-10) pitched well for Baltimore in their victory. He went 7
innings and surrended up 3 hits and no walks and gave up 3 homeruns. Tampa
Bay had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Mychal Givens preserved the game for Hess, recording his his 11th save.
Martin Perez(8-3) took the loss. His ERA ballooned from 3.96 to 4.23 as he
allowed 5 runs in 4 innings.
'Some losses are harder to take than others' Tampa Bay's manager lamented
after the game. 'This was one of them.'

Nicholas Castellanos had 5 hits and 4 RBI as the Los Angeles(AL) Angels
smashed the overmatched Philadelphia Phillies, 17 to 4.
Castellanos was really in 'the zone'. He doubled in the 4th inning, doubled
clearing the bases in the 4th inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in
the 6th inning, doubled in the 7th inning and stroked a single in the 9th
inning. Los Angeles(AL) bats were hot in the 4th inning which saw them score
9 runs on 7 hits, the 6th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 4 hits and
the 7th inning when they had 4 runs on 3 hits. For the game Los Angeles(AL)
out-hit Philadelphia 17 to 10.
The win went to Walker Buehler(10-6) who allowed 4 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Joey Lucchesi(8-8) was the loser. He allowed 3 runs and 4 hits in 3 innings.
'The ball was jumping off my bat' Castellanos said. 'I didn't do anything
differently, it's the same way I always approach the game.'

Ozzie Albies knocked 2 homeruns and scored 3 times as the incredible Seattle
Mariners defeated the floundering New York (NL) Mets by the score of 7 to 3
at Citi Field.
Albies led the offense for Seattle. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the
1st inning and blasted a solo shot in the 5th inning. Seattle had 9 hits for
the game and New York (NL) had 6.
Aaron Nola(6-3) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Shane Greene gained credit for his 17th save. Wade Miley(2-9) suffered the
loss. He surrended 4 homeruns in his 6 innings.

What a day for the Detroit Tigers! They shellacked the Chicago (AL) White Sox
pitching for 9 runs while Wade Leblanc(3-2)with effective use of the bullpen
held Chicago (AL) to 1 run.
Leblanc gave Detroit a solid outing. He allowed 6 hits and 4 walks in 6 and
2/3 innings. Detroit ended up with 11 hits for the game while Chicago (AL)
had 7.
Jose Urena(7-7) was hit with the loss. Detroit scored big getting 6 runs off
him in 4 and 1/3 innings.

Austin Meadows slammed a homerun and had 4 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates
topped the slumping Washington Nationals by a score of 10 to 2 at PNC
Park.
Meadows helped send the fans home happy. He cleared the fences for a two-run
home run in the 1st inning, laced a base-knock in the 6th inning and doubled
scoring two baserunners in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh had 11 hits overall,
while Washington had 5.
The win was credited to Chris Bassitt(13-4) who went 8 innings allowing 2
runs. The losing pitcher was Lucas Giolito(4-7). He was knocked around
pretty good, giving up 5 runs in 4 innings.

Adrian Sampson(4-11) and Luis Castillo(3-8) dueled it out with Sampson and the
Chicago (NL) Cubs coming out on top of the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 3
to 1.
Chicago (NL) jumped on top of Cincinnati in the 6th inning plating one
baserunner utilizing 3 base hits. Cincinnati went down without a fight in
the 9th.
Sampson got help from Chris Martin who was credited with his 5th save.

In a two run game the Texas Rangers got by the Minnesota Twins by the score of

Texas tallied 2 runs in the 7th inning when they came up with 3 base hits.
They would be enough to earn the win. Both teams finished the game with 11
hits.
Lucas Sims(3-1) allowed no runs in 3 innings, and picked up the victory. The
loss was charged to Ryne Harper(2-2) in relief. He gave up 3 hits and 1 walk
in 1/3 of an inning.

Left fielder Brett Gardner had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Coors Field where the very
strong Colorado Rockies beat the Atlanta Braves by the score of 6 to
3.
Atlanta was unable to claim the lead after Colorado went ahead in the bottom
of the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs on 3 base hits. J.T. Realmuto led off and
started the attack as he drew a walk. Kevin Pillar stepped into the batter's
box and he banged out a single. Joe Panik then doubled plating a run. Chris
Sale was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Gardner came up to
bat and slapped a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Colorado
banged out 11 hits on the afternoon.
The victory was credited to Sale(8-5) who went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs.
Scott Oberg was credited with his 21st save. Kyle Hendricks(9-5) was hit
with the loss. He was unable to control the Colorado offense and allowed 9
hits and 4 walks in 5 innings.
Colorado continued their winning ways, with their streak now at 6 games and
counting. Atlanta's manager was upset but philosophical about the loss.
'Sometimes you run into a team that's on a roll. This was one of those
times.'

Justin Turner cracked a homer and had 3 RBI and Dinelson Lamet reeled off a
total of 11 strikeouts as the San Diego Padres bested the Milwaukee Brewers
11 to 6 at PETCO Park.
Lamet(1-0) pitched a solid game. He was reached for 3 hits and 4 walks in 7
innings. San Diego out-hit Milwaukee for the game, 15 hits to 5.
Luke Weaver(6-6) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around, surrendering
7 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. When asked about his strikeout total for the
game, Lamet offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them
tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept
them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without the
'W'.'

Ian Desmond slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI at Dodger Stadium as the Los
Angeles(NL) Dodgers beat the lifeless San Francisco Giants 5 to 3.
Los Angeles(NL) jumped out to the early lead in the first inning as they
scored 2 runs on 2 base hits. Los Angeles(NL) had just 6 hits for the
afternoon.
The winning pitcher was Felix Hernandez(1-0) who allowed 3 runs in 5 innings.
Hernandez got help from Fernando Rodney who earned his 9th save. Shaun
Anderson(3-7) was the loser.

Eloy Jimenez blasted 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the Arizona Diamondbacks

Jimenez was spectacular at the plate. He hit a single in the 1st inning,
clubbed a three-run home run in the 2nd inning, bombed a two-run dinger in
the 3rd inning and slapped a one-base hit which brought home a run in the 5th
inning. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was
still not enough for Miami to come away with the victory.
The win went to Anibal Sanchez(7-4) who allowed 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Trevor Richards(1-10) was given the loss. 'I just got in the box, looked for
a pitch and swung,' Jimenez said. 'That's it'

Kendrick enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He tripled which plated a run in
the 3rd inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 5th
inning and stroked a one-base hit in the 8th inning. St. Louis had 11 hits
for the night while New York (AL) had 3.
Cole(10-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing no
runs. Dallas Keuchel(2-8) was hit with the loss. 'Everything felt great'
Cole said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody
tonight.'

The Cleveland Indians nipped the Toronto Blue Jays 4 to 3 at Rogers Centre in
a hard fought contest.
Tanner Roark(6-5) was solid if not spectacular. He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks
in 5 and 2/3 innings. Toronto went down quietly in the bottom of the 9th.
Roark got relief help from Evan Marshall who gained credit for his 7th save.
Aaron Brooks(5-8) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 5 hits and no
walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Cleveland's manager said after the game. 'Roark did not have
command of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew
how to pitch!'

With the crowd on their collective feet, screaming at the top of their lungs,
Kansas City Royals rallied to top Boston Red Sox by the score of 6 to
5.
Kansas City scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning plating
3 runs on 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Jarrod Dyson was the sparkplug
when he drew a walk. Jean Segura stepped up to the plate and he stroked a
base-hit. Ryan Braun got his chance to keep things going, but he went down
on strikes. Albert Pujols followed and he drew a walk to load the bases.
Buster Posey came up to bat and was hit by a pitch resulting in a run. Alex
Gordon kept the inning going and lashed a single resulting in an exciting win
for Kansas City and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans.
Kansas City totaled 11 hits on the afternoon.
Hector Neris(2-4) got the win allowing 3 runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Heath
Hembree(1-1) was the loser in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up
no hits and 1 walk.

base hits. That was all the offense they were to need. Oakland had 11 hits
for the game and Houston had 4.
Jake Odorizzi(8-3) went 7 innings allowing 1 run for the win. C.C.
Sabathia(3-9) was tagged with the loss. Oakland scored big getting 5 runs
off him in 2 and 1/3 innings.
Oakland now has a record of 68-32. Still in a bad slump, with this loss,
Houston is 1-9 lately and 29-69, worst in the division on the year.
