Robbie Ray retired 10 batters on strikeouts as the Philadelphia Phillies beat
the Washington Nationals by a score of 9 to 4.
Ray(3-5) gave a fine effort for Philadelphia. He went 6 and 1/3 innings and
surrended up 6 hits and 2 walks. For the game Philadelphia out-hit
Washington 13 to 10.
Ray got help from Julio Urias who earned his 4th save. Brendan McKay(0-3) was
the losing pitcher. He allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
Washington's manager was impressed with Ray and his 10 strikeouts. 'It's
tough to generate runs if you can't make contact with the ball.'

In a startling finish the Texas Rangers staged a comeback then held on to win
over the New York (AL) Yankees by a score of 4 to 3 at Yankee Stadium.
Texas erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs
using 4 hits. After an out was recorded, Nick Solak initiated the scoring
spurt when he ripped a single. One out later, Ronald Guzman came to bat and
laced a single. Rougned Odor then slapped a base-hit scoring a single run.
Nomar Mazara followed and he doubled accounting for two more runs. Texas
totaled 8 hits on the night.
Keone Kela(1-4) was the winner allowing 1 run in 2 innings. Kela was helped
out by Roenis Elias who recorded his 10th save. Chance Adams(0-3) was the
loser in relief.
Texas' manager was very happy after the game, 'It's great to come back and win
it in your last at bats! Our guys just wouldn't give up. And did you see the
fans - one minute they're laughing and screaming down all sorts of
unprintable stuff at our guys - the next minute - SILENCE! Yes sir, a very
enjoyable win tonight!'

Jordan Luplow cracked a homer as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the
Cincinnati Reds by the score of 4 to 2 at Great American Bpk.
Trevor Williams(7-10) pitched a fine game. He went 8 innings allowing 4 hits
and 4 walks. Cincinnati could do no damage in the bottom of the 9th.
Kirby Yates earned the save, his 27th. Luis Castillo(3-7) took the loss. He
allowed 4 runs and 7 hits in 8 innings.

At Marlins Park the Miami Marlins tallied 4 runs in the 7th inning and
outdistanced the New York (NL) Mets by a final score of 8 to 4.
Brian Anderson had a good evening at the plate. He doubled in the 1st inning,
cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 7th inning and doubled in
the 8th inning. Miami had 12 hits for the night while New York (NL) had 9.
Casey Sadler(6-1) allowed no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Justus Sheffield(1-2) was charged with the loss in relief. He
surrendered 4 runs in 1/3 of an inning and saw his ERA increase from 3.38 to
4.19.
Wth the win Miami now has a record of 47-47. With the loss, the New York (NL)
ballclub's record is 38-56.
ST. LOUIS AT TAMPA BAY

Eduardo Escobar ripped 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Gerrit Cole mowed down 13
Tampa Bay batters as the St. Louis Cardinals clobbered the outmatched Tampa
Bay Rays, 12 to 2.
Escobar was unconscious out there. While Tampa Bay pitching was serving
softballs up there for him to hit, the Tampa Bay fans were serving up some
hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as fuel
for the fire. He clubbed a two-run home run in the 3rd inning, popped a
two-run clout over the fence in the 4th inning and singled resulting in a run
in the 6th inning. St. Louis out-hit Tampa Bay for the game, 13 hits to 3.
Cole(9-5) went 8 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Martin Perez(8-2) was
hit with the loss. St. Louis knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 6 runs
in 2 innings.
Cole was humble when questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty
confident in my pitches tonight. But, I had great support behind me and I
just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!'
CHICAGO (NL) AT ATLANTA

Billy McKinney hit 2 doubles and had 3 RBI as the Chicago (NL) Cubs staged a
dramatic comeback over the Atlanta Braves by a score of 8 to 6 at SunTrust
Park.
Chicago (NL) scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning when they scored 4
runs on 4 hits. The big moment was provided by McKinney who deflated the
crowd as he doubled with all three runners coming home. The score went
back-and-forth with the lead changing 5 times.
Jeremy Walker(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 2/3 of an inning.
Bryan Shaw earned his 3rd save. Anthony Bass(1-2) was tagged with the loss
in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an inning and surrendered 3 hits and 1
walk.
Atlanta's manager was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough
loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a
terse, yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to
lose. Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin'
on us tonight'

Third baseman Matt Chapman rocketed 2 homeruns at Target Field where the
Toronto Blue Jays beat the Minnesota Twins 13 to 7.
Chapman was in a groove all evening. The Minnesota fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box. He doubled in the 2nd inning, quieted the
crowd by clouting a Grand Slam in the 6th inning and smashed a solo-shot out
of the park in the 8th inning. The Toronto offense poured it on, scoring in
7 of the 9 innings.
Aaron Brooks(5-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 6 runs. Marco Gonzales(10-7) ended up with the loss. He was unable
to control the Toronto offense and allowed 11 hits and 6 walks in 5 innings.
'Everything seemed to click tonight,' Chapman said 'if it could only be this
easy all the time!'
ARIZONA AT CHICAGO (AL)

The phenomenal Arizona Diamondbacks readily handled Chicago (AL) White Sox by
a score of 7 to 3 at Guaranteed Rate Fld.
Arizona scored 4 runs in the decisive top of the 3rd inning when they had 5
base hits. That was all the offense they were to need. Arizona had a total
of 12 hits for the game.
Julio Teheran(9-5) got the win allowing 2 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Jose
Urena(7-6) took the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings of work.
DETROIT AT HOUSTON

Catcher James McCann went yard and had 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers defeated
the Houston Astros in 10 innings by a score of 6 to 3 at Minute Maid
Park.
The score was tied at 3 after nine. Detroit came out the victor in the 10th
inning. Justin Smoak opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk.
Randal Grichuk next to the plate and he banged out a single. McCann then
rifled a three-run blast. Detroit rapped out 12 hits for the night.
The victory went to Blake Parker(4-7) who went 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Wei-Yin Chen(1-1) took the loss in relief. He gave up 3 runs and 2
hits in 1 inning.

The Colorado Rockies edged the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park by the score
of 2 to 1.
Reyes Moronta(5-1) came through for Colorado's manager with an excellent
relief stint. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 1 hit and no walks
in 2 innings. Milwaukee made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to
push the needed runs across.
Scott Oberg got the save, his 19th. The losing pitcher was Junior
Fernandez(0-1) in relief. Milwaukee's manager was subdued when questioned
after the game, 'Sure, this kind of loss takes a while to get over, but heck,
we're all professionals. We've been through this many times - it's the
nature of the game. We'll be fine - as for me - I'll be ready to go again
tomorrow!'

Shortstop Xander Bogaerts smacked 2 homeruns and Jose Berrios reeled off a
total of 10 strikeouts as the Los Angeles(AL) Angels outscored the Los
Angeles(NL) Dodgers 7 to 3.
Bogaerts had a good evening at the plate. He smashed a solo-shot out of the
park in the 1st inning, doubled in the 3rd inning and lofted a solo-blast
'downtown' in the 7th inning. Los Angeles(AL) had 11 hits overall, while Los
Angeles(NL) had 5.
Berrios(8-8) allowed 3 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Jordan
Zimmermann(3-8) suffered the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 5 innings.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Berrios - except Los Angeles(NL).
Los Angeles(NL)'s manager lamented, 'He just was 'on' tonight. He was
keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout
pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were
the visitors!'

David Peralta had 2 base hits as the San Diego Padres bested the San Francisco
Giants 4 to 3 at AT&T Park.
San Diego scored 3 runs in the 4th inning. The key offensive moment was
provided by Jose Rondon who silenced the stadium when he singled which was
good for two runs. Jake Diekman came throught with a perfect ninth inning to
earn his 13th save.
The win was credited to Jake Arrieta(6-7) who went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing
3 runs. Shaun Anderson(3-6) was given the loss. He was pinned with the loss
despite not allowing an earned run in his 6 and 2/3 innings of work.
'He gutted it out' San Diego's manager said of Arrieta. 'I was very impressed
by his tenacity.'

The Boston Red Sox had an easy time of it at Fenway Park defeating the
ice-cold Baltimore Orioles by a score of 8 to 1.
The game started off with Boston taking the lead in the first plating an
isolated run. After an out was recorded, Michael Chavis lofted a solo-blast
'downtown'. Boston rapped out 8 hits for the night.
Dustin May(2-1) was the winner allowing 1 run in 8 innings. David Hess(4-10)
was the loser. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 5 hits and 3 walks in 2 and
2/3 innings.
KANSAS CITY AT CLEVELAND

Elvis Andrus launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Kansas City Royals

Field.

comfortable at the plate tonight' Andrus said after the game. 'Despite that,
I'm happy with the results!

Right fielder Christian Yelich had 4 hits and 2 RBI at T-Mobile Park where the
seemingly unstoppable Seattle Mariners beat the Oakland Athletics in 12
innings 7 to 6.
The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings. Finally, Seattle pulled the
game out in the 12th inning. After two outs Cody Bellinger stroked a
base-hit. Carlos Santana came next and he doubled resulting in an exciting
win for Seattle and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans.
Seattle totaled 11 hits on the night.
Ken Giles(5-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Andrew Chafin(4-4) was given the loss in relief.
Seattle continued on their recent roll, their winning streak now reaching 8
games and counting.
