In a dramatic ending at Citizens Bank Park the Philadelphia Phillies won in
their last at-bat beating the Arizona Diamondbacks by the count of 6 to
5.
The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning. Gleyber Torres stroked
a one-base hit. Yandy Diaz was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.
Brandon Nimmo then was hit by a pitch. After another out, Aroldis Chapman
was wild with a pitch making Philadelphia the victor and beginning a joyous
home town celebration. Philadelphia totaled 9 hits on the night.
Collin McHugh(1-3) got the win allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. The loss
was charged to Chapman(3-4) in relief. 'It felt really nice to get this
win,' McHugh said. 'I kind of dictated the game. It's what I get paid to do.
It worked out this time.'

defeated the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 5 to 4 at Camden Yards.
Buck Farmer(1-1) was called upon to do the job and he was the winning pitcher.
He went 2 and 2/3 innings and surrended up 2 hits and 1 walk and surrendered
2 homeruns. Baltimore had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up
short.
Chad Green was credited with his 6th save. T.J. McFarland(0-1) took the loss
in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 2 hits and 1 walk.

The St. Louis Cardinals nipped the Boston Red Sox 6 to 5 at Fenway Park in a
hard fought contest.
Tommy Pham provided the offensive punch. He lost the ball over the fence for
three runs in the 1st inning, delivered a base-hit bringing in a run in the
7th inning and lined a single in the 9th inning. Boston went down quietly in
the bottom of the 9th.
John Brebbia(1-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3
innings. Brebbia got relief help from Brandon Workman who gained credit for
his 19th save. Ty Buttrey(4-5) was tagged with the loss in relief. He
surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk in 1 and 1/3 innings.

Verlander(10-3) was very good in the win. He didn't allow much, just 4 hits
and 1 walk in 8 innings and was touched for 2 homeruns. For the game
Cincinnati out-hit Washington 12 to 6.
Jefry Rodriguez(0-2) suffered the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 5 and
2/3 innings. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Verlander - except
Washington. Washington's manager lamented, 'He just was 'on' tonight. He
was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout
pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were
the visitors!'
ATLANTA AT MIAMI

Kyle Hendricks struck out 13 batters and Mike Tauchman hit 2 doubles as the
streaking Atlanta Braves outscored the Miami Marlins 6 to 1.
Hendricks(9-4) had a strong outing. He didn't give up much, just 4 hits and 3
walks in 8 innings. Atlanta finished with 9 hits while Miami ended up with
6.
The losing pitcher was Chris Paddack(3-9). He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 5 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. Hendricks was asked about his big
strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these
numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands,
everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be
able to take the crowd out of the game.'
SEATTLE AT TAMPA BAY

Yu Darvish came through with a solid 8 innings as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the
Seattle Mariners by a score of 7 to 1.
Seattle was unable to climb back into it after Tampa Bay went ahead for good
in the 6th inning plating one baserunner. Tampa Bay ended up with 6 hits for
the game while Seattle had 2.
The victory went to Darvish(12-4) who went 8 innings, allowing 1 run. Aaron
Nola(4-3) ended up with the loss. Despite the loss, he struckout 9 Tampa Bay
batters in 6 innings.
Wth the win Tampa Bay now has a record of a division leading 53-30. With an
impressive recent record of 8-2, Seattle hopes this will only be an isolated
loss - followed by another nice run.

Arenado enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He clubbed a solo home run in
the 1st inning and belted a three-run homer in the 2nd inning. Minnesota was
out-hit by Colorado, 12 hits to 8.
The winning pitcher was Chris Sale(5-5) who allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. The
losing pitcher was German Marquez(9-5). He allowed 10 hits and 1 walk in 7
innings.

in the 11th inning. After two were out Brian Dozier started the rally when
he laced a base-hit. Alvarez came next and he bombed a two-run dinger
resulting in an exciting win for Houston and a wild post-game celebration by
the home town fans. Houston had 11 hits for the night.
Sean Newcomb(1-1) was the winner allowing 1 run in 4 innings. Keone Kela(0-2)
took the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings and surrendered 1 hit and 1

and 3 walks in 6 innings. Milwaukee threatened in the 9th but their rally
came up short.
Kirby Yates got the save, his 20th. John Means(11-5) was the losing pitcher.
Scherzer, when asked about his 13 strikeout performance noted, 'The important
thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team?
But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'

Anderson gave a fine effort for San Diego. He allowed 6 hits and 1 walk in 7
innings lowering his ERA to 3.57. San Diego finished with 8 hits in the
victory.
Jake Diekman was credited with his 12th save.

Walker Buehler retired 13 batters on strikeouts and Mike Moustakas slammed 2
homeruns as the Los Angeles(AL) Angels ballclub embarrassed the Toronto Blue

Moustakas was a one-man wrecking crew. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 5th
inning and launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand Slam homerun in
the 9th inning. Los Angeles(AL) kept the scorekeepers busy in the 1st inning
which saw them plate 5 runs on 3 hits, the 7th inning with 4 runs on 5 hits
and the 9th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 3 hits. Los Angeles(AL)
had 20 hits for the game and Toronto had 10.
Buehler(8-5) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 5 runs for the win. Matt
Boyd(10-5) was the losing pitcher. Buehler was pleased with his performance.
He noted, 'I had good command of all my pitches. Just as important, my
location was right on.'

slumping Cleveland Indians hitters at Kauffman Stadium. The Kansas City
Royals came away with a 5 to 0 victory.
Stripling looked very much in control throughout the night. He didn't allow
much, just 3 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. Stripling struckout 9 Cleveland
batters improving his ERA from 4.15 to 3.84. Kansas City had 11 hits
overall, while Cleveland had 3.
Tanner Roark(4-5) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 7 innings and
surrendered 9 hits and 2 walks.
