pitching duel at Nationals Park. The Washington Nationals eventually emerged
as victors over the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 3 to 1.
Gausman gave a fine effort for Washington. He was reached for 5 hits and 2
walks in 6 innings. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the
6th inning.
Josh Hader earned the save, his 9th.

In a tight game it was the Los Angeles(AL) Angels 10, the Texas Rangers 8 at
Globe Life Park.
Los Angeles(AL) tallied 4 runs in the 4th inning with the help of 4 hits. The
crucial at-bat was provided by Nicholas Castellanos who deflated the mood of
the partisan fans when he popped a two-run clout over the fence. Texas
threatened in the 9th but Los Angeles(AL) was able to put down the rally.
The victory went to Walker Buehler(6-3) who went 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing 4
runs. Justin Anderson recorded his 1st save. Rick Porcello(5-4) suffered the
loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 6 runs in 5 innings.
'We won because we did the little things right.' Los Angeles(AL)'s manager
said after the game. 'This is why we practice things over and over and over,
so when we get in close games we don't make mistakes.'

Darvish(8-4) delivered a fine performance for Tampa Bay. He surrendered 9
hits and no walks in 7 innings. Darvish got help from Michael Lorenzen who
pitched great and earned his 6th save.
Jake Junis(5-7) was hit with the loss. He allowed Tampa Bay 6 runs in 5
innings of work. 'Everything felt great' Darvish said. 'I had a good
fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody tonight.'

In a close game it was the Toronto Blue Jays 4, the St. Louis Cardinals 2 in
12 innings at Busch Stadium.
The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Finally, Toronto pulled
the game out in the 12th inning. After two were out Jacob Webb jump-started
the rally as he drew a walk. Danny Santana came next and he bombed a two-run
dinger. For the game Toronto out-hit St. Louis 11 to 7.
The victory was credited to Webb(2-1) who went 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Adam Ottavino(0-2) absorbed the loss in relief. He allowed 2 runs and
1 hit in 1 inning.
COLORADO AT ARIZONA

Left fielder Eloy Jimenez left the yard and Kenta Maeda came through with a
solid 7 innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Colorado Rockies by
a score of 4 to 1 at Chase Field.
Arizona scored 3 runs in the decisive bottom of the 4th inning when they had 4
base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Michael Perez who made the
crowd happy when he doubled which was good for two runs. Colorado was
out-hit by Arizona, 11 hits to 2.
Maeda(8-3) went 7 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Sam Dyson(6-5) was given
the loss in relief. The Arizona ballclub's record now stands at 40-21.
Colorado will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 8-2 run -
and not a start of a new trend.

In a game at AT&T Park the San Diego Padres got by the San Francisco Giants by
the score of 4 to 1.
San Diego set the tone of the game in the first inning plating one baserunner
on 2 hits. Starling Marte slapped a one-base hit. Mookie Betts came to the
plate and drew a walk. Justin Turner then delivered a single to load the
bases. Fernando Tatis Jr followed and he grounded into a double play scoring
the run. San Diego had 9 hits for the night while San Francisco had 6.
The winning pitcher was Chase Anderson(6-3) who allowed 1 run in 7 innings.
Anderson got help from Jake Diekman who earned his 10th save. The losing
pitcher was Zach Eflin(5-5).
Wth the win San Diego now has a record of 32-30. San Francisco can't seem to
snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 1-9 record over
the last couple weeks.

Christian Yelich hit a homerun and had 3 RBI as the very potent Seattle
Mariners beat the New York (AL) Yankees in 12 innings by a score of 5 to
4.
Both teams had scored 4 runs after nine full innings. Seattle was victorious
in the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, Yelich lashed a single. Jose
Abreu stepped into the batter's box and he doubled. After another out,
Carlos Santana then slapped a base-hit resulting in an exciting win for
Seattle and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Seattle
ended up with 14 hits for the game while New York (AL) had 9.
Ken Giles(4-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Chance Adams(0-1)
was tagged with the loss in relief. He allowed 4 hits and 2 walks in 5 and

One run was the difference at PNC Park as the Pittsburgh Pirates put 4 runs on
the scoreboard in the 5th inning and defeated the Cincinnati Reds 5 to
4.
Pittsburgh took the lead for keeps in the 7th inning scoring a single run
using 3 hits. Cincinnati had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Archie Bradley(4-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 1/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Bradley got help from Kirby Yates who was credited with his
14th save. Brad Peacock(1-1) was the loser in relief. He surrendered 3 hits
and 1 walk in 1 inning.
'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Cincinnati's manager said.
'We did what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'

back in the 9th but they came up short.
Gibson got relief help from Josh James who gained credit for his 8th save.
Cole Hamels(3-4) was tagged with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits
and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Gibson was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good command of all
my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on.'

Wheeler(6-3) was tremendous on the mound for Miami. He gave up just 3 hits
and 1 walk in 8 innings lowering his ERA from 3.94 to 3.58. Miami had 8 hits
for the game and Philadelphia had 3.
Trevor Bauer(4-7) was the loser. Despite taking the loss, he whiffed 10
batters in 7 innings.

The key at-bat was by Albert Almora Jr who brought the crowd to their feet
when he doubled plating two runs. Cleveland finished with 10 hits in the
victory.
Jon Duplantier(1-0) allowed no runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory.
Duplantier got help from Jarlin Garcia who earned his 3rd save. Hector
Velazquez(1-6) was hit with the loss.
With this win, Cleveland has a 34-28 record. They have been 6-4 lately. With
the loss, the Boston ballclub's record is 25-38.

Baltimore came out the victor in the 12th inning. The key at-bat was by
Chance Sisco who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he
delivered a base-hit bringing in two baserunners. Baltimore banged out 7
hits on the night.
Richard Rodriguez(1-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 3 and 1/3
innings. T.J. Zeuch(7-1) was hit with the loss in relief. Wth the win
Baltimore now has a record of 24-37. With this loss, Chicago (NL) has a 4-6
record of late, 29-33, worst in the division overall.
