Sandy Alcantara(8-2), with relief help from Ryan Helsley, whitewashed New York
(NL) in a day game. The St. Louis Cardinals scored 6 runs in a winning
effort at Citi Field.
St. Louis set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring 2 runners on 4
hits. That early run support was enough for Alcantara and St. Louis. St.
Louis had 11 hits overall, while New York (NL) had 5.
The loss was charged to Brett Anderson(5-7). St. Louis continued their
winnings ways improving their record to a division leading 42-27. They are
8-2 in their last ten games. Still in a bad slump, with this loss, New York
(NL) is 2-8 lately and 27-41 on the year.

Farmer enjoyed a big day at the plate. He doubled in the 2nd inning, launched
a three-run homer in the 5th inning and banged out a single in the 7th
inning. Philadelphia had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Mark Melancon(3-3) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 and 1/3
innings. Joey Lucchesi(5-6) was tagged with the loss. He allowed a few too
many baserunners giving up 10 hits and 3 walks in 4 innings.
Second baseman Gleyber Torres smashed 3 homeruns and had 6 RBI but it wasn't
enough for Philadelphia.

Matz(5-4) escaped virtually unscathed against the Baltimore hitters. He was
stingy on the mound, allowing just 2 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings lowering
his ERA to 4.00. Baltimore threatened in the 9th but their rally came up
short.
Hansel Robles recorded the save, his 18th. Miles Mikolas(2-7) was charged
with the loss. 'He was really impressive tonight,' Mikolas said of his
counterpart. 'Our guys were just swinging at air.'

Jonathan Loaisiga came through with a solid 5 innings as the New York (AL)
Yankees outscored the Kansas City Royals 4 to 3.
New York (AL) scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 8th inning. After
an out was recorded, Gary Sanchez smashed a solo-shot out of the park. New
York (AL) ended up with 9 hits for the game while Kansas City had 6.
Nick Goody(2-4) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Giovanny Gallegos gained credit for his 5th save. Scott Barlow(3-1)
suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 2 and 2/3 innings giving up 1 hit
and no walks.
Wth the win New York (AL) now has a record of 23-45. With the loss, the
Kansas City ballclub's record is 36-32.

In a startling finish the amazing Seattle Mariners staged a comeback then held
on to win over the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 9 to 7 at Rogers
Centre.
Seattle won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 base
hits. Austin Nola led off and he hit a single. After an out was recorded,
Christian Yelich came to the plate and clubbed a two-run home run. Jose
Abreu then stroked a single. Cody Bellinger was up next and he drew a walk.
Carlos Santana stepped into the box and drew a walk to load the bases. After
another out, Dwight Smith Jr came up and he drew a walk scoring the final run
of the inning. This was a game of many highs and lows for the home town
fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all.
Emilio Pagan(1-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing
no runs. Ken Giles earned the save, his 8th. Roberto Osuna(1-1) was hit with
the loss in relief. He surrendered 3 runs and 3 hits in 1 inning.
Seattle's manager was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his
office after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the
crowd just sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are
celebrating wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird.

Mike Clevinger reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts at SunTrust Park where the
Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals in 10 innings 4 to 3.
The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Atlanta came out the victor in
the 10th inning. Michael Brantley led off and keyed the rally when he was
hit by a pitch. Marcus Semien was next and he drew a walk. After an out was
recorded, George Springer then drew a walk. D.J. Lemahieu followed and he
doubled resulting in an exciting win for Atlanta and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans. Atlanta rapped out 8 hits for the night.
The win was credited to Anthony Bass(1-0) who went 1 inning allowing 1 run.
The losing pitcher was Jalen Beeks(5-3) in relief.

have been 3-7 lately. Houston's manager was unhappy with his club's recent
performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be

In a good matchup it was the Cincinnati Reds 6, the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers 4

Los Angeles(NL) fell behind quickly as the Cincinnati offense came through in
the first inning with 2 runs. Michael Conforto opened up the inning nicely
when he drew a walk. Josh Donaldson stepped up next and he blasted a two-run
home run. Cincinnati had only 5 hits for the night.
Shane Bieber(7-4) got the win allowing 4 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings. Bieber was
helped out by Felipe Vazquez who recorded his 9th save. Brandon
Woodruff(7-8) was the losing pitcher. Although losing the contest, he
whiffed 9 batters in 5 innings.
It was another victory for Cincinnati at Great American Bpk. Now their
winning streak stands at 6 games.

Oakland took the lead for keeps in the 4th inning when they came up with 2
runs on 2 hits. The key at-bat was by Ramon Laureano who deflated the mood
of the partisan fans when he clubbed a two-run home run. Oakland finished
with 10 hits while Detroit ended up with 4.
Odorizzi(6-2) went 7 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Jeff
Samardzija(4-5) took the loss. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 hits
and no walks.

Buehler(7-3) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Miami batters. He surrendered only 2 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings seeing his
ERA drop from 2.81 to 2.58. Los Angeles(AL) had only 6 hits for the night.
Chris Paddack(3-7) absorbed the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 7
innings. The Los Angeles(AL) fans were thrilled by the performance put forth
by Buehler, but it was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When
he reached 10 strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud
cheer.' Los Angeles(AL)'s manager said following the game.
