Shortstop Dansby Swanson collected 2 extra-base hits and had 2 RBI and Andrew
Cashner delivered 5 solid innings as the New York (NL) Mets defeated the
Cincinnati Reds by the score of 7 to 6 at Citi Field.
Cincinnati was unable to climb back into it after New York (NL) went ahead for
good in the bottom of the 2nd inning when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits. The
highlight belonged to Swanson who came through for the home fans when he
tripled bringing home two baserunners. Cincinnati made it exciting in the
9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
The win went to Cashner(1-5) who allowed no runs in 5 innings. Paul Sewald
recorded the save, his 3rd. Justin Verlander(5-2) was hit with the loss. He
was stingy with the baserunners, allowing just 3 hits and no walks in 5
innings.
'We lose our concentration for one pitch, and we lose the game.' Cincinnati's
manager said after the game. 'Maybe now these guys will listen when I say
they have to concentrate on EVERY pitch.'

Matt Boyd didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning and Hunter Dozier touched
them all as the blistering-hot Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Baltimore
Orioles by a score of 5 to 1 at Rogers Centre.
Boyd(6-2) was solid in the win. He allowed only 3 hits and 4 walks in 8
innings lowering his ERA to 2.56. The left-handed Boyd lost his chance for a
no-hitter when Chris Taylor doubled with nobody out in the 6th inning.
Toronto had 8 hits for the game and Baltimore had 3.
Miles Mikolas(1-4) took the loss. He pitched 5 innings allowing 7 hits and 1
walk.

The Detroit Tigers edged the Colorado Rockies at Comerica Park by the score of
7 to 6.
The game was won by Detroit when they scored a run in the 8th inning. After
two outs Justin Smoak delivered a solo blast. Nick Ramirez(2-1) got help
from Chad Green who pitched great and earned his 3rd save.
Erasmo Ramirez(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He allowed 1 run and 1
hit in 1 inning. Wth the win Detroit now has a record of 17-20. With the
loss, Colorado has a record of 7-3 lately, 22-13 overall.

Catcher Jorge Alfaro had 3 base hits at Target Field as the Minnesota Twins
beat the San Francisco Giants by the count of 5 to 0.
In the bottom of the 4th inning Minnesota went on top for good scoring one
runner. Freddie Freeman was hit by a pitch. After another out, Jesse Winker
was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim. Alfaro then tripled scoring
the run. San Francisco was out-hit by Minnesota, 11 hits to 4.
Jake Junis(2-5) went 6 innings allowing no runs for the win. Ryne Harper
earned the save, his 1st. Johnny Cueto(1-4) absorbed the loss. He pitched 4
and 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits and 2 walks.

The St. Louis Cardinals pitching staff was overwhelmed by the San Diego Padres
lineup who plated 9 runs while Tommy Milone(2-2)with bullpen help held St.
Louis to 1 run.
Milone had a solid outing for San Diego. He allowed 6 hits and 1 walk in 6
innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.38 to 3.13. San Diego finished with 10
hits in the victory.
Cam Bedrosian(0-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. The San Diego
ballclub's record now stands at 18-19. With this loss, St. Louis has a 6-4
record of late, 21-17 overall.

C.C. Sabathia had a strong outing as the Houston Astros bested the Kansas City
Royals 1 to 0 at Kauffman Stadium.
The game's lone run was scored in the top of the 2nd inning. That early
scoring was all that Sabathia(1-5) needed. The Kansas City batters went down
meekly in the bottom of the 9th.
Josh James was credited with his 5th save. The losing pitcher was Drew
Smyly(2-3). He allowed 5 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings.

hits. The highlight belonged to Cave who elicited a roar from the hometown
fans when he doubled scoring two baserunners. Pittsburgh threatened in the
9th but New York (AL) was able to put down the rally.
Victor Alcantara(4-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings
and allowing 2 runs. Giovanny Gallegos got the save, his 3rd. Matt
Strahm(0-1) took the loss in relief.
New York (AL)'s manager was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making
good contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love
winning these tight ones! It was just our evening - no doubt about it!'

Second baseman Brandon Drury ripped 2 homeruns and Luke Weaver had a strong
outing as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Miami Marlins by a score of 2 to

Weaver(4-2) was on top of his game. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just
2 hits and no walks in 7 innings. Weaver struckout 8 Miami batters reducing
his ERA from 3.18 to 2.75. Will Smith, after tossing a perfect ninth, was
credited with his 7th save.
Chris Paddack(2-3) took the loss. He allowed just 2 hits and 1 walk in 7
innings. With this win, Milwaukee has a division leading 21-16 record. They
have been 6-4 lately. With the loss, the Miami ballclub's record is 19-18.

Third baseman Yuli Gurriel had 4 hits and 4 RBI at Nationals Park where the
Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Washington Nationals 5 to 2.
Gurriel provided much of the offense. He doubled scoring a run in the 3rd
inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 5th inning, lined a one-base
hit which was good for two runs in the 6th inning and slapped a base-hit in
the 8th inning. Arizona had 12 hits for the night while Washington had 7.
The victory was credited to Kenta Maeda(5-1) who went 5 innings, allowing 2
runs. Maeda got relief help from Aroldis Chapman who gained credit for his
7th save. Reynaldo Lopez(1-5) ended up with the loss. Despite losing, he
struckout 8 Arizona batters in 5 and 2/3 innings.

One run was the difference at Citizens Bank Park as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the Atlanta Braves 3 to 2.
Philadelphia delivered all the runs required in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. Yandy Diaz led off and started the attack as he drew
a walk. After an out was recorded, Austin Barnes came up and he drew a walk.
Willy Adames then laced a one-base hit to load the bases. Gleyber Torres
was up next and he drew a walk plating a run. Ji-Man Choi followed, but he
was set down on strikes. Matt Joyce added his contribution to the rally and
slapped a base-hit as two more runners crossed the plate. Atlanta tried
unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Ryan Pressly(3-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Pressly got
help from Raisel Iglesias who earned his 1st save. Alex Colome(2-2) was hit
with the loss in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits and 2
walks.
'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Atlanta's manager 'but it's losing the close
ones that really hurt.'

Center fielder Ronald Acuna cracked a homer as the Los Angeles(AL) Angels
topped the Boston Red Sox by a score of 4 to 3 at Fenway Park.
The game started off with Los Angeles(AL) taking the lead in the first scoring
2 runners on 2 hits. Boston had a chance to come back in the 9th but they
came up short.
Antonio Senzatela(2-3) got the win allowing 1 run in 7 innings. Senzatela got
help from Zack Britton who was credited with his 4th save. Hector
Velazquez(1-4) was given the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 3 and 2/3
innings.
The Los Angeles(AL) ballclub's record now stands at 21-14. Not able to get
much going in recent weeks, Boston is 2-8 of late and now has an overall
record of 15-23.

The big moment was provided by Tim Anderson who electrified Guaranteed Rate
Fld when he delivered a one-base hit scoring two baserunners. Tampa Bay was
out-hit by Chicago (AL), 9 hits to 6.

In a two run game the Seattle Mariners tallied 6 runs in the 3rd inning and
got by the Oakland Athletics by the score of 10 to 8.
Carlos Santana had a big day with his bat. He belted a three-run homer in the
3rd inning, banged out a single scoring two baserunners in the 4th inning and
doubled which was good for two runs in the 6th inning. Seattle rapped out 14
hits for the afternoon.
Ken Giles(3-0) got the win allowing 1 run in 3 innings. Eric Lauer(3-3) was
the losing pitcher. Seattle scored big getting 5 runs off him in 2 innings.
'Everything seemed to click today,' Santana said 'if it could only be this
easy all the time!'

Glenn Sparkman(2-2) and Lucas Sims(1-1) treated the Cleveland fans to a fine
pitching duel at Progressive Field. The Cleveland Indians eventually emerged
as victors over the Texas Rangers by the score of 1 to 0.
Sparkman gave Cleveland a solid outing. He didn't allow much, just 2 hits and
2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. Both teams totaled 4 hits on the night.
Sparkman got help from Adam Cimber who was credited with his 2nd save.
