Heaney(1-0) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the New York (AL) offense.
He surrendered only 2 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. Pittsburgh out-hit New
York (AL) for the game, 11 hits to 3.
Kirby Yates preserved the game for Heaney, recording his his 6th save.
Masahiro Tanaka(2-3) was the losing pitcher. Heaney didn't realize how many
strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had 10 he was obviously
surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn't
think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty good, isn't it?'

In a game for the baseball purist, Zack Wheeler(4-2) and Brad Keller(1-5)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Miami Marlins finally emerged
victorious over Milwaukee Brewers, 3 to 1.
Miami brought 2 runs across the plate in the 5th inning. The key offensive
moment was provided by Scott Kingery who excited the crowd when he stroked a
one-base hit plating two runs. Both teams ended up with 6 hits on the night.
Tyler Webb recorded his 1st save.

In a game at Nationals Park the Washington Nationals got by the Arizona
Diamondbacks by the score of 4 to 1.
Washington scored 3 runs in the decisive bottom of the 2nd inning when they
had 4 base hits. That early run support was enough for Lucas Giolito(3-3)
and Washington. Arizona was out-hit by Washington, 11 hits to 3.
Giolito was helped out by Josh Hader who recorded his 7th save. Tyler
Chatwood(1-2) ended up with the loss. He allowed 8 hits and no walks in 3
and 2/3 innings.
Wth the win Washington now has a record of 11-23. With the loss Arizona now
has a record of 24-11.

Second baseman Nick Senzel hit 2 doubles as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the
Atlanta Braves by a score of 2 to 0.
Philadelphia jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring one
runner utilizing 2 base hits. Avisail Garcia laced a one-base hit. After an
out was recorded, Senzel came up and he doubled scoring the run. That early
scoring held up. Philadelphia totaled 7 hits on the night.
The win went to Trevor Bauer(4-3) who allowed no runs in 6 innings. Brad Hand
earned his 9th save. Kyle Hendricks(2-3) absorbed the loss. 'I struggled a
bit out there tonight,' Bauer said, 'but I toughed it out and we got the
win.'

In a close game it was the red-hot Toronto Blue Jays 5, the Baltimore Orioles
3 at Rogers Centre.
Toronto tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning when they came up with
4 base hits. After an out was recorded, Anthony Santander initiated the
scoring when he delivered a solo blast. Jordy Mercer stepped up next and he
doubled. After another out, Bo Bichette then stroked a single scoring the
final run of the inning. Baltimore was retired without difficulty in the
9th.
The winning pitcher was Javy Guerra(1-2) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3
innings. Mike Minor(4-4) was charged with the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 11
hits in 6 innings.
Toronto won for the 8th straight time. 'It seems we can't lose these days',
Toronto's manager volunteered after the game. Then after a moment to reflect
he lamented, 'Oh great! Now I've gone and jinxed us!'

Kevin Pillar slammed a homerun and had 5 RBI as the Colorado Rockies bested
the Detroit Tigers 15 to 7 at Comerica Park.
Pillar had a great evening at the plate. He doubled emptying the bases in the
5th inning, bombed a two-run dinger in the 7th inning and doubled in the 9th
inning. Colorado bats were very productive in the 3rd inning when they had 5
runs on 4 hits and the 5th inning with 5 runs on 4 hits. Colorado managed 14
hits in their victory.
Reyes Moronta(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. Joe
Jimenez(2-2) was the loser in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving up
4 hits and 3 walks.
'They made a couple of mistakes and I took full advantage,' Pillar said 'next
time I'm sure they'll pitch me tougher.'

The Boston Red Sox finally stopped their 6 slide with the victory and nipped
the Los Angeles(AL) Angels 2 to 1 at Fenway Park in a hard fought
contest.
Dustin May(1-1) gave a fine effort for Boston. He went 7 and 2/3 innings
allowing 6 hits and no walks dropping his ERA from 5.00 to 3.24. Los
Angeles(AL) made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.
Matt Barnes recorded the save, his 4th. Jeremy Jeffress(0-1) suffered the
loss in relief. Boston's manager was just happy to get a win, 'We've had
such a bad streak of games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back.
Now maybe we can relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we
are capable.'

on top in the 10th inning. Jason Heyward led off the inning for New York
(NL) when he doubled. Dansby Swanson was a strikeout victim, unable to help
out. Tyler Flowers dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Jay
Bruce followed next and he drew a walk. McNeil stepped into the box and
rifled a three-run blast making New York (NL) victorious to the delight of
the the home town crowd. New York (NL) rapped out 10 hits for the night.
Francisco Liriano(1-2) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. The
losing pitcher was Andrew Kittredge(0-1) in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 1
walk in 2/3 of an inning.

In an embarrassing outing for the Minnesota Twins pitching staff, San
Francisco Giants flexed their collective muscle amassing 10 runs as Kolby
Allard(3-2), with relief help from Dereck Rodriguez, held Minnesota to 1
run.
San Francisco drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first
inning scoring 4 runners on 3 hits. That early run support was all that
Allard required. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team
was able to score again.
Marco Gonzales(4-3) absorbed the loss. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings allowing
5 hits and 1 walk.

One run was the difference at Busch Stadium as the St. Louis Cardinals put 4
runs on the scoreboard in the 8th inning and defeated the San Diego Padres in
10 innings 7 to 6.
Both teams had scored 4 runs after nine full innings. St. Louis was victorious
in the 10th inning. Eduardo Escobar was the sparkplug when he cracked a solo
homerun. After an out was recorded, Eddie Rosario stepped up to the plate
and he laced a single. Tucker Barnhart then doubled. Oscar Mercado came up
and he smacked a single resulting in a mighty exciting win for St. Louis and
the 41,854 home town fans in attendance. San Diego was out-hit by St. Louis,
12 hits to 9.
The victory went to Brandon Kintzler(1-1) who went 1 inning, allowing 2 runs.
Matt Magill(0-2) was the loser in relief. He gave up 3 runs in 2 innings of

At Kauffman Stadium, the Kansas City faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel. Dylan Bundy(3-4) finally bested his Houston counterpart,
Kyle Gibson(1-5), by the score of 2 to 1.
Kansas City scored 2 runs in the decisive bottom of the 4th inning with the
help of 3 hits. The big moment was provided by Albert Pujols who elicited a
roar from the hometown fans when he ripped a one-base hit which was good for
two runs. Houston had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Hector Neris recorded his 11th save. Gibson ended up with the loss. He gave
up just 2 runs and 4 hits in 7 innings.
Kansas City's manager was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making
good contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love
winning these tight ones! It was just our evening - no doubt about it!'
