Designated hitter Eric Thames went deep and Junior Guerra had a strong outing
as the Texas Rangers defeated the reeling Boston Red Sox in 13 innings by a
score of 4 to 3 at Fenway Park.
The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Texas won the hard
fought contest in the 13th inning. Edwin Encarnacion banged out a single.
Cameron Maybin stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Todd Frazier dug
into the batters box next, but he struck out. Thames was next to bat, but he
was a strikeout victim. Nick Solak came to the plate and lined a single
scoring the run. Solak took second on the throw. Texas had a total of 9
hits for the game.
The win went to Guerra(2-0) who allowed no runs in 4 innings. Keone Kela
preserved the game for Guerra, recording his his 1st save. John Gant(0-1)
was tagged with the loss in relief.
The Texas ballclub's record now stands at 14-19. Boston's manager was pretty
down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something
like 2-8 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'

Hunter Dozier cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Toronto Blue Jays topped
the New York (AL) Yankees by a score of 7 to 5 at Rogers Centre.
Dozier enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He ripped a solo home run in the 3rd
inning, doubled in the 6th inning and smashed a two-run homer in the 8th
inning. Toronto totaled 9 hits on the afternoon.
The winning pitcher was Tim Mayza(1-1) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3
innings. Roberto Osuna earned his 5th save. Nick Goody(0-2) was hit with the
loss in relief. He was knocked around, surrendering 4 runs in 3 innings.
Toronto continued their winning ways, with their streak now at 6 games and
counting. New York (AL)'s manager was upset but philosophical about the loss.
'Sometimes you run into a team that's on a roll. This was one of those
times.'

The Atlanta Braves bested the New York (NL) Mets by a 4 to 1 score at Citi
Field.
Charlie Morton(3-3) put on a good performance. He didn't allow much, just 4
hits and 1 walk in 7 and 2/3 innings lowering his ERA to 4.30. New York (NL)
went down without a fight in the bottom of the 9th.
Morton got help from Alex Colome who earned his 5th save. Wade Miley(2-3) was
the loser. With this win, Atlanta has a division leading 21-15 record. They
have been 6-4 lately. New York (NL) has a record of 13-21 after the loss.

At Marlins Park the Pittsburgh Pirates outdistanced the Miami Marlins by a
final score of 5 to 1.
Pittsburgh scored 3 runs in the decisive top of the 6th inning. The big
moment was provided by Jose Osuna who deflated the mood of the partisan fans
when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run. Pittsburgh
managed only 6 hits on the afternoon.
The victory was credited to Chris Bassitt(3-4) who went 7 innings, allowing 1
run. Kirby Yates gained credit for his 5th save. Trevor Richards(0-5)
absorbed the loss.
Pittsburgh now has a record of 16-18. With the loss, Miami has a record of

Kevin Pillar had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Colorado Rockies defeated the

Pillar had a big day with his bat. He doubled bringing in a run in the 4th
inning, smacked a single scoring a run in the 5th inning, tripled which
brought home a run in the 7th inning and ripped a one-base hit in the 9th
inning. For the game Colorado out-hit Philadelphia 18 to 4.
J.A. Happ(3-3) went 7 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. The losing pitcher
was Joey Lucchesi(4-2). He was not very effective, surrendering 8 runs in 4
and 2/3 innings.

Royals beat the Detroit Tigers by a score of 4 to 1.
Scott Barlow(1-0) got the win with a steady relief outing. He surrendered 1
hit and no walks in 1/3 of an inning. The right-handed Stripling had his
no-hit bid broken up by Adalberto Mondesi who homered with nobody out in the
6th inning. Neither team was able to score until the 6th inning.
Barlow got help from Hector Neris who was credited with his 10th save. Blake
Parker(1-4) absorbed the loss in relief. Kansas City remained hot, improving
their record to 17-17. They now have a record of 8-2 in recent days. With
the loss, the Detroit ballclub's record is 16-18.

Mike Moustakas blasted 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Jeremy Jeffress came
through with a solid 4 innings as the Los Angeles(AL) Angels defeated the
Minnesota Twins by the score of 8 to 1 at Angel Stadium.
Moustakas was spectacular at the plate. The hometown fans showed their
appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat. He cracked a solo
homerun in the 2nd inning, clubbed a solo home run in the 5th inning and
lofted a three-run bomb in the 6th inning. Los Angeles(AL) rapped out 7 hits
for the afternoon.
Max Fried(3-2) went 5 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Jeffress got the
save, his 1st. Steven Matz(2-4) was the loser. He served up 4 gopher balls
in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Dodgers topped the San Diego Padres by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.
Los Angeles(NL) scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 8th inning
scoring 2 runs using 4 hits. After an out was recorded, Yoan Moncada
initiated the scoring spurt when he doubled. Francisco Mejia stepped up next
and he delivered a single driving in a run. Ian Desmond then laced a
base-hit. Manuel Margot got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.
Guillermo Heredia stepped into the box and delivered a one-base hit scoring
the final run of the inning. San Diego tried unsuccessfully to come back in
the 9th.
Blake Treinen(2-0) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Greg
Holland earned the save, his 2nd. Jake Diekman(0-1) was charged with the
loss in relief.
Despite losing San Diego's manager was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get
over this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't.
Any one of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'

2 runs on 3 base hits. Chicago (NL) was out-hit by Arizona, 15 hits to 11.
Julio Teheran(6-1) went 5 innings allowing 5 runs for the win. Teheran was
helped out by Oliver Drake who recorded his 1st save. Chris Martin(1-1) was
charged with the loss in relief.

In a good matchup it was the Milwaukee Brewers 4, the St. Louis Cardinals 2 in
11 innings at Miller Park.
Both teams had scored 2 runs after nine full innings. Milwaukee came out the
victor in the 11th inning. Myles Straw got things going when he lined a
single. Two outs later Evan Longoria stepped up to the plate and he clubbed
a two-run home run giving Milwaukee the win much to the delight of the home
town crowd. St. Louis had 11 hits in the game while Milwaukee had 5, but
Milwaukee had the more timely hits.
Will Smith(1-0) allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Brandon Kintzler(0-1) was the loser in relief. Milwaukee now has a
record of 19-15. With the loss, the St. Louis ballclub's record is 19-16.

First baseman Max Muncy launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Progressive Field
as the Cleveland Indians won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the San
Francisco Giants by the count of 6 to 5.
Cleveland came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2
runs on 2 base hits. After two outs Kris Bryant kicked off the action when
he stroked a one-base hit. Muncy stepped up next and he cleared the fences
for a two-run home run resulting in an exciting win for Cleveland and a
raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Although they lost, San
Francisco did out-hit Cleveland 14 to 9.
Mike Morin(2-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. Sam
Gaviglio(1-1) suffered the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a batter
giving up 1 hit and no walks.
'Wow, that was fun!', Morin said following the game. 'Once in a while you
play a game that reminds you just why you got into this business to begin
with!'
