In a startling finish the Minnesota Twins staged a comeback then held on to
win over the Chicago (AL) White Sox by a score of 5 to 4 at Guaranteed Rate
Fld.
Minnesota had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning with 3 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. After two outs Robinson Chirinos began the rally when
he slapped a base-hit. Jose Peraza stepped up to the plate and he reached on
an error. Whit Merrifield then lofted a three-run bomb. Minnesota had 10
hits for the game and Chicago (AL) had 6.
Carlos Estevez(2-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Hansel
Robles earned his 15th save. Tony Gonsolin(2-2) was the losing pitcher in
relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 1
and 2/3 innings of work.
Gonsolin was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get
away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One
minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I
get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'

The St. Louis Cardinals nipped the Pittsburgh Pirates 6 to 5 at Busch Stadium
in a hard fought contest.
St. Louis had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring 2
runs using 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Eduardo Escobar started the
attack as he laced a base-knock. Carson Kelly next to the plate and he
popped a two-run clout over the fence. Pittsburgh tried unsuccessfully to
come back in the 9th.
The win went to Tyler Clippard(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Clippard
got relief help from Brandon Workman who gained credit for his 13th save.
The losing pitcher was Clay Holmes(0-1) in relief.

Second baseman Jonathan Villar had 2 base hits and Shane Bieber struck out 10
batters at Wrigley Field where the Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago (NL) Cubs
by the score of 4 to 1.
Bieber(5-4) was simply too much for the Chicago (NL) batters. He allowed only
2 hits and no walks in 8 innings improving his ERA from 4.52 to 4.18.
Cincinnati had 6 hits for the afternoon while Chicago (NL) had 2.
Brad Peacock preserved the game for Bieber, recording his his 4th save. The
loss was charged to Mike Fiers(3-4). He allowed 3 hits and 5 walks in 6
innings.
'I had my good stuff today.' Bieber said. 'As the game went along I started to
get the feeling that I was going to strike out a bunch of hitters.'

Marcell Ozuna touched them all and had 4 RBI as the Baltimore Orioles won in
dramatic fashion over the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 8 to 5 at Camden
Yards.
Baltimore came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning when they tallied 4
runs on 4 hits. The biggest moment was provided by Ozuna who made the crowd
happy when he clubbed a three-run home run. Baltimore totaled 13 hits on the
afternoon.
Nestor Cortes(1-3) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory.
Javy Guerra(2-3) was hit with the loss in relief. His ERA ballooned from
3.40 to 4.31 as he allowed 4 runs without retiring a batter.
'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Ozuna noted. 'It was looking
pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really
paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the
end!'

John Gant went 4 strong innings as the Boston Red Sox bested the Houston
Astros 10 to 2 at Minute Maid Park.
The Houston fans didn't appreciate the big day Pablo Sandoval had. He doubled
in the 1st inning, doubled in the 3rd inning and blasted a Grand Slam homerun
in the 4th inning. Boston had 12 hits overall, while Houston had 6.
Ty Buttrey(3-3) was the winner allowing no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings. Trevor
Cahill(2-6) absorbed the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 3 and 2/3
innings.

separated the combatants at game's end. The Milwaukee Brewers won by the
slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.
The game was won by Milwaukee when they scored a run in the 8th inning.
Aledmys Diaz doubled. Evan Longoria was next to bat, but he was a strikeout
victim. Ty France then was hit by a pitch. Domingo Santana was up next and
he banged out a single scoring the run. Both teams finished the game with 6
hits.
James Hoyt(3-0) allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Hoyt got help from Will Smith who earned his 11th save. Jesus
Luzardo(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. He pitched 3 and 1/3
innings and surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk.

score at AT&T Park.
The score was tied at 6 after nine. Colorado won the game in the 13th inning.
After an out was recorded, Joe Panik began the Colorado spurt when he drew a
walk. Rosell Herrera was next and he was hit by a pitch. One out later,
Nolan Arenado then drew a walk to load the bases. Trevor Story followed and
he doubled clearing all three ducks off the pond. Colorado had a total of 14
hits for the game.
The victory was credited to Reyes Moronta(3-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Steven Brault got the save, his 1st. Andrew Suarez(0-2) was the losing
pitcher in relief. Colorado scored big getting 3 runs off him in 2 innings.
'Some days it just all comes together, and this was one of them' Brett Gardner
said. 'I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately.'

game while Philadelphia had 6, but Philadelphia had the more timely hits.
Brad Hand gained credit for his 11th save. The loss was charged to Luis
Garcia(1-4) in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 2 walks in 1 and 2/3 innings.

Miami made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed

inning. After two outs Austin Nola got things going when he singled. Wilson
Ramos followed next and he drew a walk. Albies then delivered a single
driving in a run. Christian Yelich came up and he drew a walk to load the
bases. Jose Abreu came up to bat and drew a walk making Seattle the victor
and beginning a joyous home town celebration. It was roller coaster of a
game as the lead change hands 5 times.

Anibal Sanchez went 7 solid innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks bested the
floundering Detroit Tigers 3 to 0 at Chase Field.
Arizona took the lead off Edwin Jackson in the first inning scoring a single
run. That was all the offense they were to need. Aroldis Chapman was
perfect in the ninth giving him his 14th save on the season.
The winning pitcher was Sanchez(5-3) who allowed no runs in 7 innings. The
loss was charged to Jackson(2-7). With this win, Arizona has a 39-19 record.
They have been 6-4 lately. Detroit's manager was unhappy with his club's
recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be
embarrassing after a while.'

Shortstop Nick Ahmed cracked 2 homeruns and Mike Foltynewicz racked up an
impressive total of 10 strikeouts as the Oakland Athletics smashed the
overmatched Texas Rangers, 20 to 2.
Ahmed was unconscious all day. The Texas fans hated to see him approaching
the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He blasted a two-run
home run in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 3rd inning, cleared the bases with
a Grand Slam homerun in the 7th inning and slapped a base-hit plating a run
in the 8th inning. Oakland kept the scorekeepers busy in the 2nd inning
which saw them score 5 runs on 6 hits and the 7th inning when they had 6 runs
on 4 hits. The Oakland offense was great, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.
The victory went to Foltynewicz(5-2) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs.
Madison Bumgarner(7-6) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 6 hits and 2
walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.
Foltynewicz didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told
he had 10 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a
decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty
good, isn't it?'

Max Muncy smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Cleveland Indians defeated

It was a good day for Cleveland thanks to Muncy. He ripped a solo home run in
the 2nd inning and belted a three-run homer in the 7th inning. Cleveland won
despite being out-hit by Kansas City 13 hits to 8.
Glenn Sparkman(3-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Joe Ross(1-3) ended up with the loss. He surrendered 1 hit
