Trevor Williams reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts at Great American Bpk
where the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds in 11 innings by the
score of 4 to 3.
The score was tied at 3 after nine. Pittsburgh came out the victor in the
11th inning. Austin Meadows drew a walk. Meadows was safe on a stolen base.
One out later, Bryan Holaday then hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run.
Pittsburgh had only 6 hits for the night.
The victory went to Kirby Yates(2-2) who went 3 innings, allowing 1 run.
Archie Bradley recorded his 1st save. Michael Feliz(2-1) took the loss in

Third baseman Manny Machado went yard and 3 RBI at Camden Yards as the
Baltimore Orioles beat the Chicago (AL) White Sox 5 to 3.
Baltimore took the lead for good in the 3rd inning plating 2 runs utilizing 3
base hits. Nicky Delmonico led off the inning for Baltimore when he smacked
a single. Miguel Cabrera was next and he lined a base-hit. Chris Taylor got
his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. One out later,
Machado came up and he doubled driving in two more baserunners. Both teams
ended up with 10 hits on the night.
David Hess(2-5) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Mychal
Givens earned his 8th save. Dylan Cease(4-4) was tagged with the loss. He
was not very effective, surrendering 3 runs in 2 innings.
'He gutted it out' Baltimore's manager said of Hess. 'I was very impressed by
his tenacity.'

drew a walk. Aaron Judge stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk.
Aquino then belted a three-run homer. New York (AL) rapped out 9 hits for
the night.

runs. Jonathan Holder recorded the save, his 1st. David Price(4-5) was given

The Philadelphia Phillies were certainly pleased to stop the bleeding as their
5 game losing streak was finally halted and and the New York (NL) Mets locked
up in an exciting one-run game at Citizens Bank Park. The final score was
the Philadelphia Phillies 6, the New York (NL) Mets 5.
Philadelphia took the lead for keeps in the 4th inning scoring a single run.
Mitch Haniger delivered a solo blast. New York (NL) tried unsuccessfully to
come back in the 9th.
The win went to Rich Hill(2-3) who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings. Brad Hand was
credited with his 10th save. Wade Miley(2-5) was charged with the loss. He
served up 4 gopher balls in 5 and 2/3 innings.
'We lose our concentration for one pitch, and we lose the game.' New York
(NL)'s manager said after the game. 'Maybe now these guys will listen when I
say they have to concentrate on EVERY pitch.'

Jacob Degrom allowed Seattle's manager to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game as the Seattle Mariners defeated the slumping Detroit Tigers 9 to 4 at
Comerica Park.
Seattle came up with 6 runs in the top of the 4th inning with the help of 6
hits. The biggest moment was provided by Alex Bregman who helped quiet the
crowd when he doubled bringing home two baserunners. Seattle totaled 10 hits
on the night.
The win was credited to Degrom(7-4) who went the whole way allowing 4 runs.
The losing pitcher was Mike Montgomery(2-3). Seattle knocked him around a
bit, as he gave up 5 runs in 3 innings.

Center fielder Jarrod Dyson had 4 hits as the Kansas City Royals defeated the
Boston Red Sox by a score of 8 to 3 at Fenway Park.
Dyson was really in 'the zone'. He doubled in the 3rd inning, slapped a
base-hit scoring two baserunners in the 5th inning, hit a single in the 7th
inning and quieted the crowd by clouting a Grand Slam in the 9th inning.
Kansas City out-hit Boston for the game, 13 hits to 7.
Hector Rondon(4-1) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Jon
Lester(2-5) was hit with the loss. He pitched 6 innings giving up 9 hits and
1 walk.
The winning ways continue for Kansas City. They now have a record of 8-2 in
recent days. With the loss Boston now has a record of 22-34.

James Paxton racked up an impressive total of 11 strikeouts at Tropicana Field
where the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3 to 1.
Paxton(5-2) was solid in the win. He didn't allow much, just 3 hits and 1
walk in 7 innings. Tampa Bay had 6 hits overall, while Toronto had 3.
Diego Castillo got the save, his 2nd. Aaron Brooks(2-5) was the loser. Tampa
Bay's manager was asked about the performance of Paxton, 'He had his good
stuff out there tonight. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts
start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'

Gerrit Cole pitched 8 strong innings and catcher Carson Kelly cracked a homer
and had 3 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Atlanta Braves by the
score of 6 to 1 at SunTrust Park.
St. Louis brought 3 runs across the plate in the top of the 2nd inning when
they had 3 base hits. Howie Kendrick led off and he delivered a base-hit.
Eduardo Escobar next to the plate and he ripped a base-knock. Kelly then
rifled a three-run blast. That early scoring was all that Cole(6-3) needed.
Atlanta was out-hit by St. Louis, 12 hits to 3.
Patrick Corbin(4-4) was the loser. Despite taking the loss, he whiffed 9
batters in 6 innings.

John Means(7-3) gave Milwaukee a solid outing. He surrendered only 4 hits and
1 walk in 7 innings. San Francisco threatened in the 9th but Milwaukee was
able to put down the rally.
Means got help from Will Smith who was credited with his 10th save. Shaun
Anderson(2-4) was given the loss. Although losing the contest, he whiffed 8
batters in 5 innings.
'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals' said San Francisco's manager after
the game. 'We lost this game tonight because we didn't follow the
instructions every Little Leaguer hears every day.'

Chicago (NL) Cubs won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over Miami Marlins at Wrigley
Field pulling it out in their last at bats, 1 to 0.
The game was won by Chicago (NL) when they scored a run in the bottom of the
9th inning. Mike Trout drew a walk. After an out was recorded, David Bote
came up and he reached on an error. After another out, Renato Nunez then
lined a one-base hit to load the bases. Kyle Farmer was up next and he hit a
single making Chicago (NL) victorious to the delight of the the home town
crowd. Chicago (NL) won despite being out-hit by Miami 7 hits to 3.
Mark Melancon(2-2) got the win allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Nick
Wittgren(3-3) ended up with the loss in relief. He was a hard-luck loser,
pitching 1 and 1/3 innings and not allowing an earned run.
