separated the combatants at game's end. The streaking Seattle Mariners won
by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
Seattle claimed the early lead in the first inning when they scored 2 runs on
2 hits. The key at-bat was by Cody Bellinger who quieted the crowd when he
bombed a two-run dinger. New York (AL) threatened in the 9th but Seattle was
able to put down the rally.
The victory was credited to Eduardo Rodriguez(5-4) who went 5 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 3 runs. Ken Giles earned the save, his 6th. Dallas Keuchel(1-6)
took the loss. He allowed 5 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.

The Baltimore Orioles easily topped the Toronto Blue Jays; the final score was
15 to 8.
Baltimore tallied 8 runs in the 2nd inning when they had 5 base hits. The
highlight belonged to Manny Machado who silenced the crowd when he stroked a
base-hit plating two runs. Baltimore lit up the scoreboard in the 2nd inning
which saw them score 8 runs on 5 hits. Baltimore managed 13 hits in their
victory.
Yusei Kikuchi(4-4) went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs for the win. Daniel
Norris(5-2) was the loser. He allowed 7 runs and 3 hits in 1 and 2/3
innings.

Cincinnati came up with 3 runs in the 7th inning. The key offensive moment
was provided by Michael Conforto who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch
when he cracked a two-run shot. Felipe Vazquez earned the save with a
perfect ninth, his 7th save.
The winning pitcher was Brad Peacock(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 1 and 2/3
innings. Colten Brewer(0-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. With this win,
Cincinnati has a 26-26 record. They have been 4-6 lately. With this loss,
San Diego has a 7-3 record of late, 27-26 overall.

Scott Kingery rocketed 2 homeruns and scored 3 times and Chris Paddack struck
out 10 batters as the Miami Marlins defeated the slumping Washington
Nationals by a score of 11 to 2 at Nationals Park.
Kingery had a good day at the plate. He laced a single in the 2nd inning, hit
a bases-empty home run in the 3rd inning and blasted a solo shot in the 9th
inning. Miami finished with 16 hits while Washington ended up with 11.
The win went to Paddack(3-4) who allowed 2 runs in 7 innings. Kevin
Gausman(2-6) was charged with the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 3 and
1/3 innings.
Paddack didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he
had 10 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a
decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty
good, isn't it?'

First baseman Joey Votto had 4 hits and scored 3 times as the Pittsburgh
Pirates bested the San Francisco Giants 11 to 3 at PNC Park.
Pittsburgh jumped out to the early lead in the first inning with 3 runs using
4 hits. Votto led off and started the attack as he singled. Johnny Cueto
then fired a sharp breaking ball that appeared to cross-up the catcher. In
any event, it got by him and was ruled a passed ball. Anthony Rendon then
doubled plating a run. Two outs later Bryan Holaday stepped up to the plate
and he laced a base-knock scoring one more run. Adam Frazier came up to bat
and doubled scoring the final run of the inning. Pittsburgh out-hit San
Francisco for the game, 16 hits to 3.
Chris Bassitt(7-4) allowed 3 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory.
Cueto(2-6) was hit with the loss. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings and
surrendered 7 hits and no walks.

Charlie Blackmon had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Kansas City Royals were badly
beaten by the Texas Rangers, 19 to 7.
Blackmon was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He doubled which brought home a run in the 1st
inning, lined a one-base hit in the 4th inning, doubled knocking in a run in
the 5th inning and stroked a single which scored a run in the 9th inning.
Texas kept the scorekeepers busy in the 4th inning which saw them plate 4
runs on 4 hits and the 6th inning with 4 runs. The Texas offense was great,
scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.
Ariel Jurado(2-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 7 runs. Zack Godley(0-6) suffered the loss. He pitched 1 and 1/3
innings allowing 8 hits and no walks.

Left fielder Tommy Pham slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI at Busch Stadium as
the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5 to 4.
Arizona found themselves trailing quickly as the St. Louis bats came through
in the first inning scoring 2 runners on 3 hits. The key at-bat was by Howie
Kendrick who elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he lifted one out of
the park for a two run home run. Arizona threatened in the 9th but their
rally came up short.
Brandon Kintzler(3-1) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Brandon Workman got the save, his 12th. Anibal Sanchez(4-3) was the losing
pitcher. He gave up 5 runs in 4 innings of work.

Right fielder Jorge Soler slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI and Chris Sale
racked up an impressive total of 11 strikeouts as the Colorado Rockies
defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 9 to 2 at Coors
Field.
Sale(2-5) pitched a solid game. He surrendered only 5 hits and no walks in 8
innings seeing his ERA drop from 5.46 to 4.96. Colorado out-hit Philadelphia
for the game, 10 hits to 6.
Joey Lucchesi(5-4) absorbed the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 8 hits and
3 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings. The Colorado fans were thrilled by the
performance put forth by Sale, but it was clearly his strikeouts that they
enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10 strikeouts the fans showed him their
appreciation with a loud cheer.' Colorado's manager said following the game.

afternoon.

The Boston Red Sox edged the Houston Astros at Fenway Park by the score of 6

Boston took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 7th inning scoring 2 runs

error was also committed. Michael Chavis stepped into the batter's box and
he smashed a two-run homer. Houston proved to be no trouble in the 9th.
John Gant(3-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Marcus Walden got the save, his 2nd. Darwinzon Hernandez(0-3) was the losing
pitcher in relief.
The Boston ballclub's record now stands at 22-32. Houston's manager was
unhappy with his club's recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he
said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.'

game in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Mark Canha smashed a
bases-empty 'big-fly' making Oakland the winners and sending the 36,113 fans
home happy. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.
Adam Kolarek(1-1) was the winner allowing 1 run in 2 innings. Luke
Jackson(0-2) was the loser in relief. Oakland continued their winnings ways
improving their record to 36-18. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. Los
Angeles(AL)'s manager was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been
sputtering along lately, something like 1-9 in the last week or two. That
won't get it done.'

Brandon Woodruff racked up an impressive total of 11 strikeouts and Yoan
Moncada knocked 3 homeruns as the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers bested the

Moncada was in a groove all day. He smashed a solo-shot out of the park in
the 1st inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 3rd inning and electrified the
crowd with a Grand Slam home run in the 7th inning. Both teams totaled 9
hits on the afternoon.
The victory went to Woodruff(5-7) who went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs. Kelvin
Herrera(0-2) was charged with the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a
batter allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.
When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Woodruff offered, 'The
fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout
totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy this afternoon
- of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
