strong outing at Yankee Stadium where the smoking-hot Seattle Mariners beat
the New York (AL) Yankees 6 to 0.
Yelich provided the offensive punch. He stroked a single in the 1st inning,
bombed a two-run dinger in the 2nd inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the
park in the 4th inning. Seattle had 11 hits overall, while New York (AL) had
5.
The winning pitcher was Petit(1-2) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Ivan
Nova(1-5) ended up with the loss. Seattle continued their winning ways, with
their streak now at 7 games and counting. 'We're running on all cylinders
now', said Seattle's manager. 'I probably shouldn't change a thing and let
the guys continue to put up the wins.'

had 15 hits for the afternoon while Minnesota had 7.

recorded his 2nd save. German Marquez(6-3) was charged with the loss. He

defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 10 to 3 at Busch
Stadium.
St. Louis started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first as they scored 6 runs on 6 base hits. That early run support was
enough for Hyun-Jin Ryu(5-4) and St. Louis. St. Louis out-hit Arizona for
the game, 15 hits to 7.
John Brebbia gained credit for his 1st save. Ryan Yarbrough(5-4) was the
loser. He surrendered 6 hits and no walks in 1 inning.

Left fielder Wil Myers knocked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Trent Thornton
carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Toronto Blue Jays really laid
it on the Baltimore Orioles 14 to 2.
Myers punished Baltimore with his bat. He blasted a two-run home run in the
2nd inning, cracked a solo homerun in the 3rd inning and doubled bringing in
a run in the 6th inning. Toronto dominated offensively as they scored in 6
different innings.
Thornton(5-1) was the winner allowing 1 run in 6 innings. The right-handed
Thornton lost a no-hitter when Chance Sisco doubled with nobody out in the
6th inning. Miles Mikolas(1-6) suffered the loss.
Myers was jubilant after the game 'Let me see a box-score' he joked, 'I want
to see how that game looks on paper.'

In a thriller the Miami Marlins staged a dramatic comeback then held on to win
over the slumping Washington Nationals by a score of 5 to 4 at Nationals
Park.
Miami scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning when they came
up with 4 runs on 4 hits. The key at-bat was by Stephen Piscotty who quieted
the crowd when he emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun. Miami rapped
out 9 hits for the afternoon.
Elieser Hernandez(1-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and
allowing no runs. Hernandez got relief help from Casey Sadler who gained
credit for his 6th save. The loss was charged to Josh Hader(0-4) in relief.
'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Piscotty said. 'If you
just keep trying good things can happen!'
SAN FRANCISCO AT PITTSBURGH

In a close game it was the Pittsburgh Pirates 5, the San Francisco Giants 3 at
PNC Park.
Pittsburgh scored 2 runs in the decisive bottom of the 7th inning with the
help of 3 hits. They would prove to be the difference in the contest. Max
Scherzer(6-3) got help from Kirby Yates who pitched a perfect ninth and was
credited with his 11th save.
Yimi Garcia(1-4) was the loser in relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 3 hits
and no walks.

Blake Snell mowed down 10 Detroit batters as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the
reeling Detroit Tigers by the score of 11 to 3 at Comerica Park.
Snell(4-3) had a solid outing for Tampa Bay. He went 6 and 2/3 innings
surrendering 7 hits and 3 walks. Overall Tampa Bay out-hit Detroit 13 to 8.
Nick Anderson was credited with his 5th save. Jaime Barria(1-6) was the
loser. He gave up 5 hits and 1 walk in 1/3 of an inning. Snell was asked
about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack
up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the
stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice
to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
SAN DIEGO AT CINCINNATI

Left fielder J.D. Martinez blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Cincinnati
Reds beat the San Diego Padres by a score of 10 to 5.
Martinez enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He hit a single which plated a run
in the 1st inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 3rd inning and
lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 4th inning. Due to
a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not
enough for San Diego to come away with the victory.
Andrew Kittredge(1-1) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Chase Anderson(4-3) was the loser. He got hit hard, allowing 8 hits and 2
walks in 5 innings.
Wth the win Cincinnati now has a record of 25-26. Even with the loss, San
Diego still has a nice 8-2 record in recent weeks. They are 27-25 on the
season.

Marcus Semien had 4 hits and Mike Clevinger reeled off a total of 10
strikeouts at SunTrust Park as the Atlanta Braves beat the New York (NL) Mets
2 to 1.
Clevinger(9-1) pitched a fine game. He went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 5 hits
and no walks. New York (NL) went down quietly in the 9th.
Clevinger got help from Seth Lugo who earned his 2nd save. Andrew
Cashner(2-6) took the loss. The Atlanta fans were thrilled by the
performance put forth by Clevinger, but it was clearly his strikeouts that
they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10 strikeouts the fans showed him their
appreciation with a loud cheer.' Atlanta's manager said following the game.

The Chicago (NL) Cubs cruised to a 6 to 1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers
at Miller Park.
Chicago (NL) had 5 runs cross the plate in the top of the 5th inning when they
came up with 3 base hits. The highlight belonged to Kevin Kiermaier who
helped quiet the crowd when he lofted a three-run bomb. Chicago (NL) totaled
7 hits on the afternoon.
Michael Wacha(5-3) was the winner allowing 1 run in 7 innings. Yonny
Chirinos(3-7) was the loser. Chicago (NL) scored big getting 6 runs off him
in 4 and 2/3 innings.

and edged the Houston Astros at Fenway Park by the score of 4 to 3.
Boston did all the necessary damage in the 7th inning when they came up with 4
runs on 3 hits. Houston made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to
push the needed runs across.
John Gant(2-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Gant got
relief help from Andrew Miller who gained credit for his 2nd save. Darwinzon
Hernandez(0-2) was the loser in relief.

Mike Soroka(8-0) and Tyler Glasnow(3-3) treated the Colorado fans to a fine
pitching duel at Coors Field. The Colorado Rockies eventually emerged as
victors over the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 2 to 1.
Colorado tallied 2 runs in the 5th inning. The biggest moment was provided by
Kevin Pillar who made the crowd come alive when he lifted one out of the park
for a two run home run. Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but Colorado was
able to put down the rally.
Soroka got help from Scott Oberg who was credited with his 11th save.

inning and had an easy time of it at Dodger Stadium defeating the Los

Cleveland came through with the game-winning runs in the 8th inning as they
scored 5 runs on 4 base hits. The biggest moment was provided by Curtis
Granderson who silenced Dodger Stadium as he blasted a Grand Slam homerun.
Cleveland ended up with 9 hits for the game while Los Angeles(NL) had 3.
Evan Marshall(3-1) allowed no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Blake Treinen(2-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. He allowed 2
hits and no walks in 1 and 2/3 innings.

Mitch Garver slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI at RingCentral Coliseum as the
Oakland Athletics beat the ice-cold Los Angeles(AL) Angels 8 to 6.
Oakland had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring 3
runs on 3 hits. Willie Calhoun led off and got things going when he drew a
walk. Yasmani Grandal stepped into the batter's box and he slapped a
base-hit, and an error was also committed. Hanser Alberto then worked the
squeeze play to perfection knocking in a run. After another out, Nick Ahmed
came up and he smacked a single scoring another run. Adam Eaton followed,
but he was set down on strikes. Gio Urshela added to the outburst and ripped
a one-base hit to load the bases. Mark Canha followed next and he drew a
walk scoring the final run of the inning. Ian Kennedy relieved and was
untouched by Los Angeles(AL) as he recorded the save, his 13th.
Noe Ramirez(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Kyle Ryan(4-1) was hit with the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a
batter and surrendered 1 hit and no walks.
