In a close game it was the Baltimore Orioles 6, the Minnesota Twins 4 at
Target Field.
Baltimore scored the winning runs in the top of the 9th inning plating 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. Chance Sisco began the Baltimore spurt when he hit a
bases-empty home run. After an out was recorded, Shin-Soo Choo stepped in
and he was hit by a pitch. Manny Machado got his turn next, but he was a
strikeout victim. Marcell Ozuna came up and he smacked a single. Jesus
Aguilar came up to bat and lashed a single scoring the final run of the
inning. Baltimore finished with 12 hits while Minnesota ended up with 8.
The victory went to Mychal Givens(1-1) who went 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Givens got help from Oliver Perez who was credited with his 2nd save.
Edgar Garcia(0-1) suffered the loss in relief.
With this win, Baltimore has a 17-32 record. They have been 3-7 lately. With
the loss, the Minnesota ballclub's record is 25-25.

Kevin Pillar homered as the Colorado Rockies bested the Chicago (AL) White Sox

Colorado erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning with 3 runs on 2
hits. Brett Gardner led off and he doubled. Nolan Arenado came to the plate
and drew a walk. Trevor Story was next to the plate, but was promptly struck
out. One out later, Jorge Soler stepped up to the plate and he launched a
three-run homer. Reyes Moronta, after tossing a perfect ninth, was credited
with his 3rd save.
Jesus Tinoco(3-1) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Aaron
Bummer(3-2) was hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings
and surrendered 4 hits and 2 walks.

Catcher Tom Murphy hit 3 doubles and had 2 RBI and Shaun Anderson came through
with a solid 7 innings as the San Francisco Giants defeated the slumping
Detroit Tigers 7 to 0 at AT&T Park.
The game started off with San Francisco taking the lead in the first plating
an isolated run using 2 hits. That early scoring was all that Anderson(2-3)
needed. For the game San Francisco out-hit Detroit 13 to 4.
Tyler Alexander(0-2) was given the loss. He pitched 5 innings allowing 9 hits
and no walks. The San Francisco ballclub's record now stands at 18-31. Still
in a bad slump, with this loss, Detroit is 2-8 lately and 20-29, worst in the
division on the year.

Left fielder David Peralta hit one over the fence and had 2 RBI as the San
Diego Padres defeated the Miami Marlins by the score of 4 to 1 at Marlins
Park.
San Diego scored 3 runs in the 6th inning with the help of 3 hits. The crucial
at-bat was provided by Jurickson Profar who deflated the crowd as he cracked
a two-run shot. San Diego finished with 7 hits in the victory.
The win went to Matt Andriese(2-1) who allowed 1 run in 3 and 2/3 innings.
Trey Wingenter got the save, his 4th. Nick Wittgren(3-2) was the losing
pitcher in relief.
San Diego now has a record of 25-24. Miami can't seem to snap out of their

Christian Yelich smacked 2 homeruns and scored 3 times and Jacob Degrom had a
strong outing at Nationals Park as the Seattle Mariners belted the Washington
Nationals by the count of 14 to 2.
Yelich provided much of the offense. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in
the 6th inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 7th inning, delivered a
single in the 8th inning and laced a one-base hit in the 9th inning. Seattle
had 14 hits for the night.
Degrom(6-4), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. The loss was
charged to Lucas Giolito(3-4). He surrendered 4 hits and 1 walk in 5 and 1/3
innings.
'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Degrom. 'I had
good command early in the game. I had my control and composure and everything
went well.'

Andrew Heaney mowed down 12 Chicago (NL) batters as the Pittsburgh Pirates
outscored the Chicago (NL) Cubs 6 to 3.
Heaney(2-0) gave a fine effort for Pittsburgh. He surrendered 6 hits and 2
walks in 7 innings lowering his ERA from 2.25 to 1.89. Pittsburgh had 11
hits for the night while Chicago (NL) had 7.
Kirby Yates earned his 10th save. Merrill Kelly(4-5) ended up with the loss.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Heaney - except Chicago (NL).
Chicago (NL)'s manager lamented, 'He just was 'on' tonight. He was keeping
our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher -
makes it a fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the
visitors!'

Adam Wainwright(1-6) earned his pay with a solid performance for Houston. He

the night.
Wainwright got relief help from Jandel Gustave who gained credit for his 1st
save. Aaron Brooks(2-4) suffered the loss. He gave up 3 runs and 3 hits in

topped the struggling Boston Red Sox by a score of 9 to 1 at Fenway
Park.
Boston fell behind quickly as the Tampa Bay offense came through in the first
inning when they came up with 3 runs on 2 hits. That early run support was
enough for Syndergaard(6-2) and Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay banged out 7 hits on
the night.
Luke Bard(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 1 inning giving up 2 hits

The New York (NL) Mets scored 4 runs in the 5th inning and nipped the Arizona
Diamondbacks in 13 innings 8 to 7 at Citi Field in a hard fought
contest.
The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings. New York (NL) was victorious
in the 13th inning. After an out was recorded, David Dahl got things going
when he was hit by a pitch. Pete Alonso stepped up next and he bombed a
two-run dinger making New York (NL) the victor and beginning a joyous home
town celebration. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5
times.
The winning pitcher was Gabriel Ynoa(2-1) who allowed 1 run in 1/3 of an
inning. Aroldis Chapman(1-2) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 2
runs and 1 hit in 1/3 of an inning.
New York (NL) won for the 6th straight time.

Marcus Semien had 5 hits and 2 RBI and Charlie Morton retired 11 batters on
strikeouts at Busch Stadium as the Atlanta Braves, running on all cylinders,
ripped the St. Louis Cardinals by a large 13 to 2 margin.
Semien had a big day against St. Louis. He stroked a single in the 1st
inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 2nd inning, delivered a one-base
hit in the 4th inning, ripped a base-hit in the 7th inning and doubled in the
9th inning. Atlanta provided plenty of action in the 2nd inning which saw
them score 4 runs on 4 hits and the 3rd inning which saw them score 4 runs on
4 hits. Atlanta simply wore out the St. Louis pitching staff, scoring in 6
different innings.
Morton(5-3) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. The losing
pitcher was Zac Gallen(4-2). He served up 4 homeruns in his 2 innings.
Morton was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd
when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running
tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange -
but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
LOS ANGELES(AL) AT KANSAS CITY

Right fielder Ryan Braun rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Kauffman Stadium
as the red-hot Kansas City Royals beat the Los Angeles(AL) Angels 5 to
4.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Braun. He lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in
the 1st inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 3rd inning and blasted a solo
shot in the 7th inning. Kansas City out-hit Los Angeles(AL) for the game, 11
hits to 7.
The victory went to Ross Stripling(4-2) who went 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing 3
runs. Hector Neris preserved the game for Stripling, recording his his 12th
save. Max Fried(4-3) was hit with the loss. Kansas City scored big getting
4 runs off him in 3 and 2/3 innings.
With the win, Kansas City continued their winning ways; their streak now
stands at 8 games and counting. 'We're running on all cylinders now', said
Kansas City's manager. 'I probably shouldn't change a thing and let the guys
continue to put up the wins.'

John Means reeled off a total of 11 strikeouts as the Milwaukee Brewers
defeated the New York (AL) Yankees 8 to 4 at Miller Park.
Evan Longoria made sure the Milwaukee fans enjoyed themselves. He tripled
which was good for two runs in the 1st inning, doubled knocking in a run in
the 2nd inning and lined a one-base hit scoring two baserunners in the 4th
inning. Milwaukee had 12 hits for the game and New York (AL) had 7.
Means(6-3) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 7 innings. Gio Gonzalez(2-5) was
given the loss. He gave up 5 hits and 3 walks in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Means was jubilant in the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun out there.
The fans gave me a lot of support as did my teammates. We got the victory
and I'll sure take 11 strikeouts anytime!'

J.D. Martinez provided the offensive punch. He doubled scoring two

in the 7th inning. Cincinnati had 8 hits for the game and Cleveland had 3.
The win went to Luis Castillo(3-4) who allowed 1 run in 8 innings. The loss
was charged to Carlos Carrasco(1-7). He was not very effective, surrendering
6 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings.
