Jack Flaherty whiffed 15 batters at Citizens Bank Park as the St. Louis
Cardinals beat the ice-cold Philadelphia Phillies 3 to 0.
Flaherty(4-1) escaped virtually unscathed against the Philadelphia hitters.
He didn't give up much, just 2 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings lowering his ERA
from 2.45 to 2.12. After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.
Flaherty got help from Daniel Hudson who earned his 1st save. Tyler
Glasnow(3-2) was hit with the loss. 'He was really impressive today,'
Glasnow said of his counterpart. 'Our guys were just swinging at air.'

In a dramatic ending, the New York (NL) Mets staged a comeback win over the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 3 to 1.
New York (NL) had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing
3 base hits. Jeff McNeil opened up the inning nicely when he doubled. David
Dahl stepped up next and he doubled driving in a run. Pete Alonso then
smashed a two-run homer giving New York (NL) the win much to the delight of
the home town crowd. New York (NL) banged out 7 hits on the afternoon.
A.J. Puk(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Kirby Yates(1-2)
was charged with the loss in relief. He gave up 3 runs and 3 hits without
retiring a batter.
Puk and Dahl were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come
from behind victory. As New York (NL)'s manager noted, 'A win like this one
can do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans,
the players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
MILWAUKEE AT CINCINNATI

Justin Verlander dominated striking out 12 Milwaukee batters and J.D. Martinez
knocked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Cincinnati Reds outscored the
Milwaukee Brewers 4 to 2.
Martinez enjoyed a big day at the plate. He bombed a two-run dinger in the
1st inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 5th inning. Milwaukee
went down without a fight in the 9th.
The winning pitcher was Verlander(6-3) who allowed 2 runs in 7 and 2/3
innings. Liam Hendriks was credited with his 1st save. Yonny Chirinos(3-6)
was the losing pitcher. Despite taking the loss, he whiffed 10 batters in 7
innings.
Cincinnati's manager was asked about the performance of Verlander, 'He had his
good stuff out there this afternoon. The fans really get into it when the
strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more
adrenalin.'

Jorge Soler ripped 2 homeruns at Marlins Park where the Colorado Rockies beat
the Miami Marlins 6 to 3.
Colorado came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning with 3
runs on 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Brett Gardner began the
Colorado spurt when he doubled. Nolan Arenado next to the plate and he
doubled bringing in a run. One out later, Matt Olson then blasted a two-run
home run. Colorado took care of Miami with no trouble in the bottom of the
9th.
Jesus Tinoco(2-1) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
Tinoco got relief help from Tommy Kahnle who gained credit for his 2nd save.
J.D. Hammer(2-1) was given the loss in relief. He was not very effective,
surrendering 3 runs in 2 innings.

Jose Altuve had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Baltimore
Orioles by a score of 11 to 3 at Tropicana Field.
Altuve had a good day at the plate. He lashed a single in the 1st inning,
doubled in the 2nd inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the
4th inning and delivered a base-hit scoring two baserunners in the 6th
inning. Tampa Bay had 13 hits for the afternoon while Baltimore had 6.
Blake Snell(3-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Mike Minor(5-5) was the loser. Tampa Bay scored big getting
6 runs off him in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Tampa Bay continued their winning ways, with their streak now at 6 games and
counting.

Dylan Bundy racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts at Kauffman Stadium
where the Kansas City Royals beat the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers by the score of
4 to 2.
Bundy(4-5) gave a fine effort for Kansas City. He allowed 5 hits and 2 walks
in 7 innings. Los Angeles(NL) was set down quietly in the 9th.
Tanner Rainey recorded the save, his 2nd. The losing pitcher was Tyler
Beede(1-3). Bundy was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good
zip on my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on. The fans
really got into the game too - that always helps me. Now, if I can only do
that again in my next outing.'

Danny Santana cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Toronto Blue Jays

Santana was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors. He smashed a two-run homer in the 6th
inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 7th inning and tripled in the
9th inning. The Toronto offense man-handled the Chicago (AL) pitching staff
as they scored in 7 of the 9 innings.
The win went to Matt Boyd(7-3) who allowed 5 runs in 6 innings. Javy Guerra
recorded his 5th save. Jose Quintana(4-4) suffered the loss. He was touched
for 11 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.
Toronto now has a record of 29-18. With the loss, Chicago (AL) has a record of
5-5 lately, 22-25 overall.

In a two run game the Texas Rangers got by the reeling Boston Red Sox in 15
innings by the score of 6 to 4.
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Texas won the game in
the 15th inning. Rougned Odor started the inning off right when he drew a
walk. After an out was recorded, Charlie Blackmon came to the plate and drew
a walk. Edwin Encarnacion then cleared the fences for a two-run home run
giving Texas the win as 29,926 happy fans joyfully celebrated. Boston
out-hit Texas 13 to 9, but Texas ended up with more runs.
The victory was credited to Taylor Clarke(1-1) who went 2/3 of an inning,
allowing no runs. Matt Barnes(2-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. He
allowed 2 runs and 1 hit in 1 and 1/3 innings.

Kyle Hendricks came through with a solid 8 innings and Josh Bell went yard and
had 2 RBI as the sizzling Atlanta Braves topped the San Francisco Giants by a

Hendricks(4-3) was virtually untouchable. He surrendered only 2 hits and 2
walks in 8 innings. Hendricks whiffed an impressive total of 9 San Francisco
batters lowering his ERA to 2.86. Atlanta had 11 hits overall, while San
Francisco had 2.
Johnny Cueto(2-5) absorbed the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 5
innings of work. It was another victory for Atlanta at AT&T Park. Now their
winning streak stands at 8 games.

delivered a single. Albies followed and he ripped a one-base hit. Albies
was safe on a stolen base. Christian Yelich came up and he smacked a
three-run homer. Seattle had 8 hits overall, while Detroit had 4.
The victory went to Rodriguez(4-4) who went 8 innings, allowing no runs. Shane
Greene recorded his 9th save. Luis Cessa(3-4) was charged with the loss in
relief.

the 9th but Arizona was able to put down the rally.
Kevin Gausman(2-5) took the loss. While he was the losing pitcher, he still

Schwarber had a big day with his bat. He doubled plating three runs in the

three-run blast in the 9th inning. Minnesota kept the scorekeepers busy in
the 1st inning with 5 runs on 5 hits and the 9th inning which saw them plate
7 runs on 6 hits. Overall Minnesota out-hit Cleveland 21 to 6.

runs. Glenn Sparkman(2-4) was the loser. 'Everything seemed to click today,'
Schwarber said 'if it could only be this easy all the time!'
