In a dramatic ending the Miami Marlins staged a comeback and held on to win
over the Cincinnati Reds by the count of 7 to 6.
Miami scored the winning runs in the top of the 9th inning plating 2 runs.
Josh Naylor led off and got things going when he laced a base-knock. Raimel
Tapia stepped up to the plate and he reached on an error. Brian Anderson was
a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Juan Soto came up and he was walked
intentionally to load the bases. After another out, Scott Kingery came to
bat and reached on an error which was good for two runs. Miami had 14 hits
for the game and Cincinnati had 11.
Nick Wittgren(3-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Tyler Webb earned the save, his 2nd. The loss was charged to Liam
Hendriks(2-2) in relief. He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an
earned run in his 1 inning of work.

15,901 fans watched an exciting game at PNC Park. The Pittsburgh Pirates
topped the St. Louis Cardinals by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.
Chris Bassitt(5-4) looked very much in control throughout the day. He was
stingy on the mound, allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. Bassitt
racked up 9 strikeouts and was touched for 2 homeruns. St. Louis threatened
in the 9th but Pittsburgh was able to put down the rally.
Kirby Yates recorded the save, his 9th. Sandy Alcantara(6-2) was given the
loss. He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 9 hits and 3 walks.
St. Louis' manager was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a
manager's nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'

At Wrigley Field the Chicago (NL) Cubs outdistanced the Milwaukee Brewers by a
final score of 6 to 2.
Milwaukee was unable to recover after Chicago (NL) went ahead in the bottom of
the 5th inning scoring one runner on 3 hits. Mark Melancon came throught
with a perfect ninth inning to earn his 3rd save.
The win was credited to Mike Fiers(2-2) who went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 2
runs. Luke Weaver(5-3) was the loser. He surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk in 6
innings.

In a game at PETCO Park the San Diego Padres got by the Chicago (AL) White Sox
by the score of 4 to 1.
San Diego took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 6th inning with 2 runs
on 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Starling Marte initiated the
scoring spurt when he ripped a single. Marte swiped second base. Mookie
Betts then ripped a base-hit scoring a single run. Justin Turner was up next
and he doubled scoring the final run of the inning. San Diego ended up with
7 hits for the game while Chicago (AL) had 3.
The winning pitcher was Kyle Freeland(2-3) who allowed 1 run in 6 innings.
Brad Wieck preserved the game for Freeland, recording his his 1st save. Jon
Gray(2-4) was hit with the loss.

Murphy got things rolling when he slapped a single. Hiura stepped into the

Freddie Freeman blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and German Marquez retired 10
batters on strikeouts at Comerica Park where the Minnesota Twins beat the
Detroit Tigers 8 to 1.
Freeman had a big evening at the plate. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in
the 4th inning and cracked a two-run shot in the 7th inning. Minnesota had
11 hits overall, while Detroit had 3.
Marquez(6-2) got the win allowing 1 run in 8 innings. Ben Lively(0-1) was
tagged with the loss in relief. Marquez didn't realize how many strikeouts
he was racking up. When told he had 10 he was obviously surprised, 'No
kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd
that many. Say, that's pretty good, isn't it?'

Shortstop Paul Dejong went yard and had 3 RBI as the New York (AL) Yankees
were badly beaten by the Tampa Bay Rays, 17 to 1.
Dejong helped send the fans home happy. He singled in the 2nd inning, doubled
scoring two baserunners in the 5th inning and clubbed a solo home run in the
8th inning. Tampa Bay bats were hot in the 5th inning which saw them score 6
runs on 6 hits and the 8th inning when they had 8 runs on 9 hits. Tampa Bay
had 23 hits for the night while New York (AL) had 7.
The victory was credited to Martin Perez(5-0) who went 7 innings, allowing no
runs. Dallas Keuchel(0-5) was tagged with the loss. He was touched for 10
hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.

they came up short.
Derek Holland(0-7) was hit with the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 6
innings. 'This was a tough loss,' said Boston's manager, 'the kind that
sticks with you for awhile.'

it in the 10th inning. Stephen Vogt delivered a one-base hit. After an out
was recorded, Danny Santana came to the plate and reached on an error scoring
the run. Toronto had 13 hits for the night.
The victory was credited to Tyler Duffey(2-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Roberto Osuna was credited with his 7th save. Roenis Elias(0-3) was
the loser in relief. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not

was by Matt Duffy who quieted the home crowd when he delivered a single
bringing home two baserunners. This was the kind of game that many fans love
as the lead changed hands 5 times.
Kevin McCarthy(3-0) got the win allowing no runs in 3 innings. McCarthy was
helped out by Juan Nicasio who recorded his 1st save. Darwinzon
Hernandez(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 1 hit

inning. Gardner laced a base-knock. Gardner got a good lead and stole
second. Nolan Arenado then drew a walk. Trevor Story followed, but he was
set down on strikes. Matt Olson came to the plate and stroked a base-hit
making Colorado victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.
Colorado and San Francisco each finished the night with 15 hits.
Sam Dyson(4-4) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Dereck Rodriguez(0-1)
absorbed the loss in relief. He allowed 1 run and 2 hits in 1/3 of an

Mike Moustakas had a good evening at the plate. He rifled a three-run blast
in the 3rd inning, slapped a one-base hit in the 5th inning and slapped a
single bringing in a run in the 8th inning. Offensively, Los Angeles(AL) was
a juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings.
Minter earned the save, his 1st. Nick Pivetta(0-6) ended up with the loss.

manager was in a talkative mood after the ballgame. 'Fellows, I don't know

Jesus Aguilar rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Baltimore Orioles

Aguilar made sure the Baltimore fans enjoyed themselves. He hit a bases-empty
home run in the 4th inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 6th
inning and ripped a one-base hit in the 7th inning. Baltimore provided
plenty of action in the 6th inning with 5 runs on 3 hits and the 7th inning
which saw them score 5 runs on 3 hits. Baltimore ended up with 13 hits for
the game while Cleveland had 8.

Laureano was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the
